I'm curious. Did anyone who ordered the Nav system get the new DVD-based unit, as opposed to the multi-CD unit? I'm told that March production cars are supposed to have it, but I can't determine when they switched over. My car's still hanging out at the docks (probably in some sleazy dive bar), as far as I can tell, so there's no way of telling which I'm getting.

You wrote in your review that "The climate control works well, but the defrost comes on a high speed which catches you by suprise. My MA warned me about that."

When picking up my MCS last night, my MA warned me of that. He showed me a workaround. If you press and hold the defrost button it then allows you to manually set the fan speed. I'm not sure if this in only on the automatic climate control units on not.

The defrost does catch you off gard a bit, but d@mn if it doesn't defrost 10 times quicker than any other defroster I've ever seen. But then again, maybe that's just cuz the windows are small

Harry,

Thanks man. I will definately check it out. For fun, turn it on when you have someone in the car with you, who knows nothing about it. It scares the crap out of 'em.

Thanks again for the tip.

MiniMarc,

I got the NAV and only got the CD. I asked early on if I could get the DVD, but they said it wouldn't be available.

Ryan,

Check on that rate. I have seen lower and My MA got me 3.74% with Citizens Bank. With the economy like it is you should not settle for anything above 4.5%. Do the research and you can probably do better, unless you have some credit issues. I deal with a lot of banks in my line of work.

I had a 14 March build date. Last week, I was in the dealership doing my paperwork in advance, and a guy was accepting delivery of a MCS with a NAV. It had a build date of 7 March, which was the first week of the DVD NAV unit. I even saw the DVD logo on the unit under the passenger seat.

The next day the same guy was complaining on the MINI's Owner Lounge that - though he had a DVD unit, the actual disc was a region 6 (northeast US) CDROM. He was pissed. I called the dealer to see what was going on and a MA said they were looking into it, and that the guys MCS should have came with a DVD. The guy later updated the lounge, saying that the dealer gave him a DVD - as ordered.

Also, us Apriler's (March build dates) are also supposed to have a "brake rotor wear light". Can anyone corfirm this?

Hopefully I can pick Delores up tomorrow, if her driving lights come in.

Jeffrey

Jeffrey, I'll be tearing off those stock brake pads first thing when the car gets into my garage tomorrow, so I'll tell everyone if the wear-sensor is there!

also, found out that Randy at MINI-Motorsport shipped my H-Sport springs today, YEAAAYY!!

Cheers,
Ryan

Ok, here's a sneak peak at Grover. Stopped by to drop off some paperwork for financing, and got to see him. Hoping to close the deal tomorrow or Thursday and get Grover home.

Hi all,

Glad to read so much good news...Rye do you plan to do any motoring first or is it straight to the garage for mods?!?!

My news is not so good...The mighty Jingu Maru has apparently encountered a speed bump (wave?) in the Atlantic and the arrival dates for NY and SC have moved back a day (now NY 4/11 and SC 4/13) that means my wait is 24 hours longer...

Hoping for smoother seas, a fast romp through the VDC and a speedy (but careful) trucker...

chef

Okay, as per request, I'm providing an ohmlaa (OMLA) of my MINI:

If I had to describe it in one word, i'd say: "ookladoopadoit" But since that makes little to no sense, i'll go into further detail.

I love this car! Of course that doesn't say much either, as everyone of us will love this car; that is of course, why we bought it. The handling is superb, being able to scare passengers on tight turns is very amusing, leaving them saying "wow, that sure fun! can we do it again?!" The responsiveness of it's every move is enjoyable and something very different than my previous POS cars. I think part of my enjoyment of this vehicle is that is my first car purchase, so everything that goes along with buying something new, that involves such a committment applies to me here.

From where I sit, everything performance-wise on my MC is very very good. Of course, I can only compare it to the '85 chevy cavalier, and '92 mitsu galant i've had, and the other various cars of friends and family i've driven, so I won't go into much detail about that aspect of the MINI, as I am not a very valid speaker on that realm of the MINI. I will say, however, that the CVT is GREAT. Not being very efficient at the stick, and quite frankly, i prefer the ease of autos (please don't flame me for this view, i know the majority will say, the MINI is meant to be stick, and it's only fun that way, blah blah, i like my CVT, and i'm no less of a man for not being able to drive stick well, thank you, )

I actually had a rough first couple of week when i first took delivery. Within a week, I got a bad dent and deep gouge in the bonnet that require $300 worth of work and 4 days without motoring. now i'm motoring around with an 8-inch windshield crack that im putting off replacing for as long as possible. But that's just bad luck, nothing to blame the MINI on.

A few things that kind've bother me, but is probably just a matter of getting used to: The CD player's display is very limited. I'd very much like to have the time display of the tracks as well as volume number indicator. trivial, i know, but still would like to have it. Also the ACC isn't that easy to use (ie having to press and hold defrost for 5 secs before being able to automatically adjust level), but again something that needs more time to get accustomed to. whenever I'm motoring around from 12a-1a, i constantly look at the time because it says 0:15... during the 12 oclock am hour and for some reason that bothers me, but again, NOT A BIG DEAL. I actually can't really think of any other lil annoyances that slightly bother me.

something i really love about the MINI in general is how there are SO many options (both aftermarket and OEM) that really allow a motor-er to, as MINI says, "you-ify" the MINI. I've already gotten and installed: glove box org, hotpocket, center arm rest, euro-parcel shelf, carpet flo mats, boot cargo net, MINI wheel valves, white side turn indicators, and picked up a MINI sunshade. i tend to focus on the aesthetic and functional add-ons vs the more expensive performance mods that i don't typically need. but the extent to which some people personalize their MINIs is great. plus how cool is it to be able to say boot and bonnet, and motor??

probably the one thing i really like about the MINI above and beyond is how it makes me happy when in it. I feel like it's a duty to represent the whole MINI philosophy, as i understood it to be in the unauthorized manual. I dont get so pissed off if someone cuts me off, or if i get a slight blemish (hey, it's just a scar-scars tell stories, scars are sexy), i like being nice and letting a couple cars get in front of me at a busy merging. I feel like i'm nice in the MINI.. i guess having a smile while driving, rubs off on me. I have a stressful day at school, driving the MINI home makes me feel better. sappy, silly, whatever.. it's true, for me plus it's fun getting all the stares and comments about it. hey, if i wasn't cool before, i sure am now!

hey, today's actually exactly 1 month since i took delivery, only 59 payments left! 2500 miles motored so far and more fun than i've ever had driving. of course i'm only 22, but still.. i can't believe i actually have one, it's unreal. I had just been drooling over them since they first started making appearances, but never thought i'd get one. I read up on them every chance i got, and whenever i saw one i'd stare and stare. it still hasn't totally set in that i've got it. whenever i am walking to my MINI in a parking lot, i just stare at it and think "man, what an awesome car" and normally i would just keep thinking that as i get into my galant, but NOOOW, i get IN the MINI, and it's a really good feeling.

blah blah, this is getting ridiculous, like anyone's gonna read all this nonsense. I need to stick with posting pictures, which by the way i will tomorrow of othe parcel shelf.

aaaaaaaaand, i'm spent,
Ryan

wagsFTB, thank you for sharing with the club the first OMLA!

I think I've PM'd everyone who's had their MINI for at least a week now. It would be ultra-kick butt if everyone would do a One-Week-Later-Assessment, and then a one month later assessment like Ryan's above. I'll be saving the reviews and compiling them, creating an Assessment page as part of the CWFAC page soon.
Cool idea?

Cheers,
Ryan

Chef, I'll do a "write-up" in the form of RandyBMC's "how-to's" in Performance Mod's, but probley more brief!

(still waiting for Tire Rack to get the EBC Green Stuff rear pads out of backorder, they're due the 11th, grrr!)

Look into Randy's How-To section, he has most of the info you need (that's where I'm getting my info from!)

Cheers,
Ryan

Just got home after a late nigh meeting. Message from Wa'el my MA informing me that Pyro is at the dealer, programmed, striped and ready to be picked up.

Arranging financing at my bank tomorrow. 1 payment, 0% the result of disciplined savings and 18 years of driving my current old faithful.

I saw 5 minis on the road today. This morning an eb/w mcs on the way to work. This afternoon a cr/w mcs while taking my daughter to the doctor. On the way home from the doc we saw a ly/b mc a ps/ps mcs and a cr/w mc. That was 4 minis in a 4 mile drive. Santa Rosa CA is a Mini town!

That's 12 different minis' I have seen in Sonoma county. I don't know if any of them are MCO members.

Enough rambling. Friday is the pick-up day, and this is the absolute worst part of the wait.

Good-night all

Andy

Congrats to all the people picking up their minis this week! It's SO exciting to see the cars on the configurator replaced by the real things - and they ALL look GREAT!

I'm jealous!

I've now been pushed to an estimated Monday pickup. Gotta get bus tickets!

BUT! My knee can take the clutch - I gave it a bit of a workout yesterday to be sure.

More pics please!

Wags - What a great post! I loved it! Good for you!
Ryan - I think posting the assessments on the CWFAC site would be a great idea and maybe even posting FAQ's...like programming options, favorite aftermarket accessories, how to track your mini en route, recommended tips and products for washing your mini, etc. I know it's a lot of work; It would be a great resource though.

I can't wait til the 16th to pick up my MC. I just can't! I am going to pick it up Friday or Sat! If Friday - it's first trip is to LaGuardia airport to pick up my brother-in-law! If Sat, it's first trip is the Aqueduct Racecourse for horse races and then the Big Apple for a night on the town. I'm so psyched!!!

I saw a blue MCS w/white roof and white bonnet stripes while leaving work last night. I just found myself staring at it. I wanted to say to the guy - I have one too!

Have a great day!

Kristine, thanks for the kind words, and I love your suggestions! Perhaps I'll get some time this weekend to put together a lil' somethin'
Ideas for FAQ:
*What is a typical timeframe of the production and shipping process? [1 month]
*Where do I find my production and shipping status? [ASKMINI & WW]
*Should I wait until the next model year? [nope!]
*My MINI has come home, how do I take care of it? [car care and maintenance tips]
*Who's yo daddy? [Ryan, your VMA (answer #2: Sockdaddy!)]

Cheers,
Ryan

Ok, now that I'm t-?? hours away from picking up my MINI, I've been reviewing some of the 'Checklists' out there. Was curious as too how current some of the issues that they have us checking are. In other words, which are old MINI issues that have been resolved by now, and I shouldn't have to track down. A couple that stand out:

-Cold Start software update
-Coolant tank leak
-Windshield seals
-Tail light condensation
-Others?

Now, I realize that most of these just take a few seconds to check, but was curious as to which are history, and which are still potential issues?

MiniSail - I haven't heard about these issues yet...

Makes me think...Is there a master list (or could we put one together) of things to take with you and things to ask when you pick up your mini?

I know yesterday I called my insurance company to have them cover the mini as of this Friday. They then faxed over my info to the dealer. And today my dealer asked me to fax a copy of my license since the car's in my name. Hopefully that takes care of some stuff early in case I forget to bring things with all of my anxious excitement!
