R50/53 THE APRIL CLUB
>>Ok, I was wondering how many time's we've covered this:
>>
>>"Do you have any aftermarket plans for your MINI?"
>>
>>This comes up cuz I'm about to do some Shopping
for my MINI, since it's due in 13 days
My shopping list includes:
>>H&R Springs
>>EBC Green Stuff brake pads, front and back
>>clear CHMSL only to match white roof, keeping OEM tailights
>>glove box organizer
>>I've been contemplating the Hot Pocket (hey wags, how's yours working out??)
>>
>>I plan on ripping off those NASTY ultra-dusty stock BMW brake pads first thing when the car get's home, and I'll do the H&R springs while I'm at it!
>>
>>Cheers, lots of Motoring very soon!
>>Ryan
Not for nothing Ryan, but IMHO the car is going to stop really poorly if you remove the brake pads.

This is the biggest thread I've ever seen... I'd hate to see it in the expanded view like they have on other boards. Actually, I'd kind of like to see that

>>Well i snapped some quick pics of the infamous first dent/scratch at the body shop. i was pressed for time, so i didn't really take any good ones, just these two. i shoulda panned out some to catch the real damage, it's kinda hard to see how bad it actually is from these...

>>It's getting intense here.
>>
>>My fiance took me out driving this weekend. It was my first time on a manual, and his WRX is still cherry. (I think he now wants the MINI to come in more than I do.) We went out to a big parking lot that wraps around a local church, and crossing ourselves for safety, I took the car for a spin.
>>
>>No stalls! That was my biggest worry, and it doesn't seem to be a problem for me. I buck a little shifting in motion, but it seems to be more from giving too little throttle than from any clutch issues.
>>
>>The shift distance on the WRX seems huge compared to how tight and trim the movement was on the MINI gearbox I played with. Those of you who have test-driven the manual MINI, how do you feel about the shifting? Should it be easy or hard for me to adjust, based on the car I'm learning on?
>>
>>My goal is to be good enough by the time I get to the dealership that I can at least drive us out of the showroom and the lot. I think I'll let the boy drive it the rest of the way home on the interstate! There's no sense in killing us before we even really get motoring...
>>
>>Meghan
Meghan,
First of all, picking an empty lot is a very good place to learn a stick; you have no distractions. Same reason why you may not want to drive it home when you pick it up. You will be excited and a bit nervous, so drive it in familiar non threatening situations first.
And have no fear, the MINI has short throw, very positive shift feel. You will want to switch gears just because it feels good!
Good luck with yiur MINI!

Agreed Red, the MINI has one of the best/most-intuitive front-driver shifters around. Rear drive shifters are almost always easier in terms of finding the gear, however are also almost always higher effort devices. I'm a ***** for my UUC shifter in my 3-series, it's to die for!, although it's a relatively high effort shifter (put a bit of arm into it!). Overall the MINI is quite easy to drive for a stick-shift newbie, about on the same level as a WRX.
Good luck Meghan, lots of practice, patience, and learning. You'll be pro in no-time (ok, it'll take a few monts of hard-training for that!)
Cheers,
Dr. Ryan

Birdie in the house!
Checking in for the first time today! Glad to see such a lively chat session. I said in one of my previous messages, and I meant it, this club rocks! The Marchers are looking for me, but I refuse to go back there. this club is too much fun!
Anyway, no car yet! Spoke to my MA and it turns out that my car was not one of the cars delivered on Friday. But, he believes any day now. He is going to call me and tell me when to come in and see it before it gets prep'd. I'll get some pics. Should be this week, I hope.
Future boaters...........don't get caught up on the timeframes. Us pro-waiters will tell you that it changes and varies like the weather. Just stay tuned to this Club and you will pass the time, while learning a lot.

Thanks for the encouragement guys!
I plan to practice with my MINI every chance I get. I'm already half-driving my fiance and friends mad through begging to drive their cars. The only problem I really have found so far in manual driving is that I'm too hesitant with the gas, and I guess that's not really the fault of the car

Just picked up my DS/W MCS earlier this evening. Very impressed so far - it feels like a cart - everything is so direct. The ride on 16 inch wheels isn't bad at all too. Will write more and upload photos (once I have taken some) soon.
Well I was wondering where my car was. I was told about 3 weeks ago by MINI Canada that it was in Halifax for transport by train to Calgary. I was told last wednesday that it was in Calgary waiting to be offloaded from the train.
I called today and my MA tells me that my car just arrived in Halifax yesterday and should be here in 3 weeks. When I told him about our previous conversations and my talk with MINI Canada he says, "hum, thats weird, we will check and call you tomorrow".
So do you think they forgot to take it off the train..............I guess I still have to wait. Things happen differently here in Canada I guess.

ARRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! I THINK I'M GOING NUTS! WHERE IS MY MINI?????????????????????????
Ok OL is still wacked. Haven't heard anything from the dealer and this no askmini BS is really getting to me. I suppose I should get in touch with my ma but I'm trying not to drive him crazy too. I have all this work to do this week but by thursday there's a nice little gap in my schedual that I could go up and get the mini, but I don't know if it'll be ready then. Also, I'm worried about not being able to drive the mini home, will I look like a total dark if my mom has to drive it for me, wait, don't answer that question, I already know. Ayhh! It's just too much anticipation you know, like I don't already have enough going on to worry about right now. Rachel your offer is very tempting but, I think if I saw pics of my mini, I wouldn't be able to look at anything else!

Thanks for the update MichaelD; btw, not to contradict miniSail, but I tend to like Shuttle [pod one]
