R50/53 THE APRIL CLUB
well I sold my 1990 Suburbun / land Yacht, and am driveing a work truck for now. I have a 2000 chevy venture for the kids and just found out there is one more on the way, so I'll have to check into that baby seat that hooks up in the MINI.
>>Rachel, you're TOO FUNNY! no need for your MINI to feel alone anymore, there's four of us at 160 now! You did, however, leave MiniSail alone in the paint booth!
>>
My MINI has separation anxiety issues already... I'm sure I'll have to sleep in my MINI when it gets home until it's comfortable being out there all night in the dark! It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.
I SWEAR I told Mini that we were leaving! I think he just got a bit distracted with all those paint fumes wafting in the air... (it's late.. I'm trying to imagine where else they could possibly be wafting BUT in the air... ). We'll just have to party loud enough that 'Sail can find us.
OK, I finally got off my duff and called my MA. Things are different here in Canada, you can't just phone ASKMINI and get an update. Anyway good news for me. My MINI is built, it is in Canada, and awaiting a train to come from eastern Canada. YA!!!!
It should be here soon.
It should be here soon.
>>mmmmm, mindless fluffing, mmmmmmmmmm >>
you're definitely the PRO at that.. just look at your insane tally
>>OH! I got a great question!
>>**What other cars did you look at before deciding on the MINI?**
>>
I actually wasn't in the market for a new car.. but then in early02, i started reading up on the MINI and thinking how awesome of a car was, but since i'm poor, there was no thought of me actually getting one, just a dream...
But then I started hating my car, and wanting a new one.. something cool that fit my personality, and the MINI was the only thing close. The final straw was when i hit a weird curb that messed my front wheel up, as well as having CV boot problems, and other random crap.
so then, i went ***** out and said I'm getting a MINI, period. loved the look, love it's personality, everyone said the car was made for me.. dunno what that really means, but oh well.. so that's my story.. if the MINI didn't come out, i'd still be driving a POS mitsubishi galant.. but NOW, i'm cool...

I'm with you Wags. The thought of a new car hadn't even entered my mind. When I found the MINI, I had barely even heard of it, and was only looking at cars because my sister wa sin the market. I came across miniusa and just flipped out! When I showed the car to my sis, she thought it was too small and kinda ugly(shpfff! She just bought her car last weekend...a jeep liberty!). I got really upset when she didn't like it and couldn't figure out why I took it so personally, untill I realized it was because I wanted a MINI!!!!!
indeed. i wasnt even thinking about buying a new car anytime soon. but i saw a renault clio in europe, and then when i got back to the states, i saw an article pitting the clio against the MCS. i developed a bit of an obsession...then one day i said to myself "could i afford a mini cooper?" and though the answer is probably no, i did it anyway, knowing that it's possible, and i'd find a way to make it work.
so here i am: EDD for Morgan is like 3/21, and i'm paying all my bills and working a lot more to get ready for her...let's all have luck with this!

Indeed, I too was in love at first test drive. I had already checked out all the dealers across the country via e-mail and found a handful which were charging MSRP and had relatively short delivery times. After the test drive I put in my order on the far other side of the country. The rest is history. My little MCS is on its way on the Jingu now. Still unamed though! I'm accepting suggestions for my little baby!

I am the same way, I buy a new car ever 9 months or so. I looked at the MINI many times way before it even came out. The first time I had a ride in a mini was when I was fifteen and I later found out it was stolen. I never forgot that mini and ever since I wanted one. When BMW first displayed the MINI I wanted one. I followed the devolopment, and was waiting for the MINI cooper S. But in the mean time I got into Solo II racing and discovered that the Cooper was more competetive, so I bought one of those.
I have owned many cars over the years, from a V6 powered Pinto to a souped up VDub Type III with 150 horse power (it ate many transmissions) I have owned and driver an Integra Type R and I drive High powered Police cars on a daily basis, The MINI is the only car for me, I have owned a Miata, and I can finally say I have another car that fills that void. Another week and mine should be here. I am bursting.

At 10:43am GMT my Mini rolled up to the docks in Southampton. I'm currently on the waitlist for the Carmen. I guess I need to elbow a few minis that are not part of the CWFAC off the Carmen to make room for me. Let's hope I make it. There are currently 444 Mini's booked on the Carmen (although I didn't count to see how many of those were waitlisted). According to the Wallenius Wilhelmsen web site, the Carmen has a capacity of 5,234 vehicles. Let's hope it didn't load up on too many cars on the continent. Cheers.
Just wondering about all those who frequently get new cars (must be nice), are you all planning on keeping the MINI long-term or will this, too, be replaced with the latest and greatest?
i had to drive a corolla
home today from the service dept as winnie is getting her paint/interior protection today. I'm already going through withdrawal

Wags,
I have been averaging a new car about every two years. When I saw the MINI reviews I immediately new it was for me. My boy is turning 10 and I plan on keeping it until he turns 16. We will see.

well.. I kinda knew that my Probe wasn't going to be my car for the rest of my life, so I was looking around for something to replace it when the came time. I'd seen the car reviews before it was released and thought it was a great-sounding car. I wasn't really in a hurry for it for a lot of reasons, but eventually I noticed that there was a dealer not too far away (Peabody) and I wandered in. I very nearly didn't get to drive one the first time I went in, but they squeezed me in between scheduled appointments. The rest, as they say, is history.
>>As of this morning, up to td66778 made it to southampton. Dangit! Soooo close!
HMM, that means mine made it (td66772), YEAAAAAA!!!!
I average buying a car about every year, however, I have a feeling the MCS will be around a while. It was not "love at first test drive" for me with the MINI. I actually was a bit dissapointed. Understand the circumstances; I was on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale, so I went to Lauderdale MINI. The MA was nice, but was blabbing waaaaayy too much during the drive. Also, my friend came with on the drive, so he was chatting to the MA the whole time, pointing at stuff in front of me, being generally annoying
Cheers,
Ryan

In keeping with the story of the day:
I was moving back to the US from Brussels, Belgium three years ago so I had to get a new car (my car in Brussels was a company car). I wanted to get the new 3 series but it had just been released in the US and it had a long waiting list and I needed a car as soon as I moved back. I got the Audi A4 Quattro and it has been a great car (especially in the snow) but it lacks soul. When the Mini was released last year and we were visiting friends in Brussels we saw them all over. I kept telling my wife we should go test drive one. Reluctantly she agreed. In September we test drove one and I was hooked. She, on the other hand, thought it was a toy car. After a few weeks of whining, I finally got her to say the magic words, "If you really want it, go ahead and order it." I faxed the order to my dealer that day (before she changed her mind). I plan to keep this car for a long time, but my son (10 this year) is also hoping he will get it in 6 years (fat chance). Maybe by that time they will bring the Mini Diesel to the US. Looks good, safe, economical and SLOW. That sounds like a great kid car.

I totally agree with you on this one. There should be law's limiting the amount of horsepower young drivers should have. The less temptation, the less danger potential.
Cheers,
Ryan

Well let's see. I bought my first car, a new VW Superbeetle convertible im 1974 and still have her (she's in perfect condition and drives great!) and my second car in 1989 which I'm donating to charity. So that makes a new car on average every.... what, 22 years? Looks like the MINI may be around for a while.
We're making progress at the plant. I'm now at 153! And for those of you who are afraid that your MINI will arrive too early, my dealership said it wouldn't be a problem. I have to arrange a flight and vacation time to pick her up and both have to be done pretty far in advance. So that I don't get there before she does, I've arranged to get her at her latest estimated time of arrival. If she gets there early, she'll just sit and wait for me. They offered to keep her on the lot for over a month if needed or as long as it takes (within reason, I presume). Of course, I don't think I could stand the wait, but it's nice to know. If your MINI gets there early, you should be able to pick her up whenever you need to... assuming you can wait that long.
Anyone getting satelite radio?
