You may recall I brought LIVIA home Wednesday 6/23. I don't think I told you that she was so shiny and perfect, I wanted to leave her there and come back the next day to pick her up - well, only for a minute.
Now (Saturday 6/26) she has about 150 miles, and some road dust, bugs and brake dust. We went to Bremerton (22 mi commute one way) on Th and Fr, but didn't do any "extra" motoring. Today, however, we went out by ourselves and roamed the back roads, windows down, top open. I had to stop to get sunscreen!
Hang in there, those who are waiting, it is worth it. Happy motoring to all.

HarborGirl and Meanboy...Congratulations!
Jimskater, hang in there. Just one more day.
Who am I kidding? It's going to be one of the longest days of your life. Hang in there anyway, and have fun with Ollie 2.

And you can't count.
It's two of the longest days of my life. I can't pick him up until Monday night.
We drove around about 100 miles yesterday...some highway and some city. It's a fun car and I am looking to improve on it. So far, it needs a little more grunt under 2k rpm so cold air intake cold be in order. It needs a little more storage space too so maybe a glovebox organizer and an armrest with storage. I figured out how to change the H/K settings but I have not settled on the sound I like. And I don't know for sure if it's going to be a cd changer or an IPOD. Although, a changer is about 1/2 the price as an IPOD. I was thinking of the changing the grill but the wifey likes all yellow. The gas guage hasn't moved a whole lot so I am very pleased about that. And yes, the visors are useless. I need to tint the top portion of the windows...funky as it sounds but that should provide good protection against the sun Oh, and hopefully, this isn't too off topic.
Oh, and I named it...SHORTY!!! Why? Because it's not very long compared to our Lexus Boat!

Excellent news. Glad you're enjoying the new baby. Be careful about mods, though. It's a short slippery slope.
First you're adding a little intake. Then you'll want an exhaust, maybe some springs and a sway bar...

out of break-in and rallied
i passed out of my break-in period about a week ago and managed (unintentionally) to get my first scratch on the car.
So this past weekend i found a guy to be my navigator and took my cooperS on the "Big Lap VIII" T/S/D road rally in NH. it involved a fair amount of travel over unpaved roads, so i now have the muddiest mini ever.
http://offhand.org/gallery/minipics/DSC00020 (the lighting in that picture actually minimizes the mud -- it's even dirtier than you might think)
but if you want some quality motoring, check out rallies in your area!

love the pictures.By the way Pete and JCampos, winetasting at the end of July sounds like a plan. I also have some fellow wine nerd friends who would be interested in joining in on the fun. PM me and we can set things up. No hurry though, I have a busy week then I'm on vacation.

[QUOTE=idahorob]A quick note to you Maydayers to say I just got home with Igraine.
What a wonderful choice of name! I'm a King Arthur fan too—and a Harry Potter fan—well, actually, a fan of anything British. I wish I'd thought of Igraine. Enjoy!

Finally! Someone who recognizes the name; most people go "what's that?" I figured the MINI being a British legend, it needs a name from a British legend. Holy Grail and all. Had I bought an MCS I would have named it "Pendragon" and put a dragon decal on the roof. Here she is in the Cental Oregon desert on the way home.

My MCS is supposed to be at dealership Tuesday and I am supposed to get it by the weekend.
My first trip in it will be on the 4th of July. I was going to call it "Belle" after my granddaughter, but maybe I will have to call it "Liberty Belle".

Trip to the Land of No MINIs...
Took the first road trip in the MINI last weekend...my wife and I traveled to New York to visit my parents. It's about a 500 mile round trip from Maryland to Poughkeepsie, NY. The MINI did fine and even swallowed a big n' heavy 12-gallon air compressor in addition to our luggage for the trip home. Got in the high 20s for mileage, lots of AC usage and mostly 75mph+ (except for during the deluge of rain on the way up in NJ, and &%*$&% construction on I-81 in Pennsylvania on the way home).
Funny thing about being in my hometown of Poughkeepsie was that there are really no MINIs. I see several a day down here near Baltimore, but given that there's no dealers around Po-town, they're quite a bit rarer. It was really cool driving through town, especially in the area near Vassar College. Lots of stares from nearly everybody, a groovy head nod from an aging hippie in a war-torn Geo Storm, and huge smile and thumbs-up exchanged with a guy in a pristine first-gen VW GTI.
I've now got well over 2000 miles on the clock, and Owen is loosening up nicely. Driveability has actually improved, and he's gotten a little quicker. Owen continues to make friends everywhere he goes.
Hope y'alls motorin' is going well...

Hey Maydayers!!!
Charlie, Donna (the wife) and I are back from our roadtrip to Florida, and we're trying to catch up! I must say, this car constantly surprises me with how stable, solid and pretty darn fast it is. So, after 2600 miles (in less than two weeks), I bring this report.
I trust this car completely. In all conditions and situations. That has never happened in this short a time period for me before. I trust the car to get out of or around any hazardous situation we find ourselves in with poise and grace.
For those who have not experienced their new babies on a road trip - you'll love it. The car feels exactly the same at 50 as it does at...well..let's just say in excess of triple digits, shall we?
That said, it can get us into trouble. Because of that, you never really know how fast you're going. I've looked down at the speedo thinking I was doing 75 (perfectly legal in southern states) and found I was doing a speed that would attract the Georgia state police - deffinitely not something I wanted.
Another nice thing in the hilly areas of West Virginia: even on the biggest hills, it has enough torque to pull away from anything, once that annoying truck gets out of your way.
Most MINI owners (except for that PA guy in the PW\B MC and the older SC couple in the BRG\W MC) are very enthusiastic when meeting another owner. And EVERYBODY from a passerby in WV to a parking attendant in Disney World comment on the car. Gotta love that!
Anyway, here's two pics. One of me and the ride. Can't see the sunroof flag, but.... And the other is a truck we found at a place in Orlando.
Have fun and keep on motoring.
