I haven't experienced any stumbling thankfully. My starting does however take longer than I would expect to crank the starter, and sometimes it isn't enough and stalls. Hope that doesn't become more of a problem in january's subzero temps.
So, is anyone in the NE area coming to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in the coming week? MINI\Mini is the main marque this year, so they're trying to get 1000 MINIs at the local raceway this weekend. If they do, that'll be a record, or so I'm told.
But, if any of the Maydayers are motoring in for it, it would be a cool time to meet.
They've got events throughout the week leading up to the show on Saturday (17th) and race on Sunday (18th).

FYI, Gary at MINI of Peabody is not installing V38 yet. He is always conservative about waiting for new upgrades, becuase he's seen that upgrades can cause serious issues. In fact, he never even put V37 on their unit.
That said, I'm going to V38 once he recommends it...

AAUUGHHHH!!! First scratches. :/
I came out to wash my car this weekend, and after I rinsed the dust off, I noticed these scratches on the driver's side of the bonnet! Any ideas? or am I going to have to take it to a paint shop?

They look like someone either sat on my bonnet with riveted jeans, or leaned across the bonnet (for some unfathomable reason) and scratched it with their belt.

Charlie knows Agrippa's pain...sortof. I was giving her\him (still haven't decided yet) the first detail\wax and noticed two small nicks in the paint. About 3\4mm square, one on my door, one about 4 inches above the invisishield on the hood.
Small, but noticible to me anyway.

Deadguy,
Terrible that somebody scratched Agrippa.
It really looks like something or part of somebody did drag across the bonnet.
If it is down to the metal, it might require a paint shop fix. There are a lot of folks on NAM and MINI2 who are great at DIY. I would always be afraid of any paint fixes myself but for a lot of people it's no problem. I did use some touch up paint once on my old Nissan Pathfinder with ok results but not good enough for me to try on the bonnet of my MINI. I have also discovered a small chip in the air intake on my S, but it is sort of inside the scoop so I'm not too worried.
Keep us up to date on what happens. I hate to see anyone in our 'family' with damage to their MINIs. Here's to hoping that it is a quick/inexpensive fix.

Sorry to see that you got scratched deadguy
My beast of a cat leaves scratches like that on our cars. It is hard to see how big it is though from the picture. I also have a horse who likes to bite cars, he took a huge chunk of paint out of my '65 mustang's hood. Might have been some crazy critter. Good luck on fixing it. I am sure it will not be a huge fix, should look good as new!

Oh, Deadguy!
I'm so sorry some idiot scratched Agrippa. I'd be
. Where do you leave it parked where someone could do such a thing? I can't imagine someone sitting on someone's car. Looks like someone may have been carrying something heavy and trying to carry it over their head maybe, and didn't make it? Like maybe a bicycle? It looks to me like it's all the way through the paint.
Perhaps someone set something like a laundry basket on it, and slid it off instead of picking it up?

Oh, Winechic! Congrats!!! It won't be long now and you deserve it!
We have completed production and are waiting to be released, but it's been this way since 7/9! I can picture him just sitting there waiting to come home. I know England is nice in the summer but... Everytime I'm out driving around I am imagining myself motoring instead and it's driving me nuts!

I try not to park him too near other cars, but I also don't go out of the way to park 300 feet from other cars.
The scratches are razor thin, about 2 inches long, and barely there to the touch. It is, however, terribly annoying. I'm afraid to bathe him, for fear that I might make things worse before I get to a body shop. :[

You will be motoring before you know it. I'm sure the dealer will also give you priority in preping your shiny new MINI.
Maybe they can also make a call to make sure your car gets the 'way already sold' priority at the VDC. (Are you out there obiwan?)
We are definitely on for wine tasting in Sonoma on July 31st. Looks like we will have something to celebrate!
Keep us up to date on the progress of getting on the ship and the tracking across the Atlantic.
Cheers,
Deadguy, that sucks. I hate leaving my car behind every single day, and get nervous whenever someone pulls in next to it or walks by. If the scratches are only in the clear cloat and not in the base color paint, scratch remover will polish them out. Try Meguire's Scratch-X, you can get it at wal-mart etc. I always keep a tube around and need to use it once in a while. If they aren't deep they disappear. If they're too deep, well at least you tried.
Winechic I'm so happy your new mini has been born & sets sail today! Best of luck with this one!

First Mod :)
So I installed my first mod today - the flag doesn't count - the Parcel shelf.
If you're looking for more space in your car - get it. I got it and the glovebox organizer at the same time, and they add a considerable amount of usable space for sunglasses, etc.
I am a little embarased by it though. Everything that I was reading said that it was a really simple install. No issues whatsoever. So I start to put it in and the left side goes in fine, but the right side won't click into place. No matter how much I push, realign, squeeze and almost break the thing...it just won't fit.
Then, after about half an hour (on a 5 minute install) I see the problem. The control module for my alarm is in the way. So, I shift it slightly and the shelf pops right in. Boy do I feel stupid. I guess I'm not quite ready to install that pulley, eh?

Pigwidgeon's Big Adventure
Greetings, fellow Maydayers  ,
We're in the middle of our cross-country journey from Alabama to Idaho, and we're having a ball. Pig is such a great car! Tom (my husband) finally got to meet him a week ago--and now he might like Pig more than I do. We definitely get worse gas mileage when Tom's driving. He says that's because he's a "more spirited" driver. I say he's got a lead foot
.
We're now in southwestern Colorado, having taken a very circuitous route from Atlanta. Pig has 4500 miles on his odometer, and has acquired a Hot Pocket (highly recommended), Mardi Gras beads, an alien antenna topper, and a new friend named Beauregard, who's a 20-inch tall stuffed alien. He sits between the front seats during the day, and in the driver's seat at night. We drove through Roswell, NM, and had to get some souvenirs (fun town).
We've taken lots of pictures of Pig along the way, and he's proven very popular (lots of "what kind of car is that?" and "what a cute car!"). There will probably be a web page in Pig's future. After all, he's becoming quite well-traveled.
Unfortunately, Pig got a chip in his windshield today
. We were way (about 8 car lengths) behind a mean old truck with no flaps when a large piece of something flew up and cracked the windshield. A few cuss words were said, but we stopped at the next big town and had it fixed. You can still see a line, but at least the crack won't spread. We've decided it gives him character
.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hi. We're having so much fun, and have had several conversations about how we're so happy we decided to buy a MINI.
Winechic, I'm so happy to hear about your booking. It won't be long now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that this time things continue to go smoothly.
Deadguy, I'm so sorry about Agrippa. Makes you want to go strangle the person who did it, doesn't it?
I hope the body shop gets it all taken care of soon.
And now, bye, all. I'm back to vacationing. Twelve days until I have to rejoin the real world (but who's counting?)

Great story, Pig crew...enjoy the rest of the trip!

Nice Pig Pics. Makes me wish I had taken more pics of Charlie on our Florida trip. I'd wanted a pic of him outside the gates to Disney World, but they don't make those things very automobile friendly - at least not one as small as a MINI.

Wandering Aiellos,
Great pics and travelogue!
It seems like you three are having a true adventure on your trip to your new home. I love the area you are in now. If it's not too late, be sure to visit Mesa Verde in SW Colorado. The cliff dwellings there are incredible.
Sorry that Pig got a chip along the way. Like you said, it adds character. Pig is a MINI that's lived a little and will be able to show off the scars to the other MINIs in Idaho. At least until you get them fixed.
Can't wait to see the rest of the pics when you arrive.
Safe motoring! (But Tom should still stick to his spirited motoring style.)
Cheers,
