OH! I didn't even think of this -- the same thing happened with my Saturn when I traded it in to my Mini dealer, so you definitely made the right decision Winechic.

Hi Harbor Girl,

Welcome to the Maydayers! I couldn't track the Jupiter Daimond on any of the ocean or shipping sites and Port Hueneme doesn't list ships in port. It does seem like it is probably already in port. You can call ASKMINI to find out if Livia is on the ground. After it was at the vehicle distribution center, my car had an estimated delivery date again on the MINI USA site. It arrived at the dealer on the day listed on MINIUSA. You should be motoring soon.

Cheers,

Thanks for the kind word Jcampo and engtech. I just re-ordered and will go into production yet again at the end of July.
Since my MA was saying that the damage was really bad, basically all of the driver side would have to be replaced, and that there were actually whole in some of the pannels I figured an '05 sounded good. There will always be a record of this incident conected to the VIN thus it would make re selling dificult. And more inportantly, I would always know.
SO, that meens that I will start all over remeber the excitement of the first days.....ahh, how calm and normal we all were back then. There gonna have to lock me up by the time I get this car; which, by the way, I will not name until I have had it for atleast a few months, more supersticious then ever now

BTW Jcampos, I don't "have" a vineyard I work at one. If you wanna go come up here and let me drive your new mini around while you and your lady taste wine, I'm down. I know were all the wineries are.

"WHY WOULD YOU LET SOMEONE YO BARELY KNOW DRIVE THE CAR AND NOT ME?!"

Which vineyard do you work at if you dont mind me asking.

I think you made the right decision. I'm sorry you have to go through all of this again, but you are a pro, and you will know exactly what to do and what to expect. I am still just so sorry that this has happened.

So I'm curious. Did you order the EXACT same car? Same color, same options, same everything?

There's an option that I ended at the very last minute, and I am SOOOOO glad that I did. I love the autodipping mirror and the auto wipers!!!!

This remains an argument between my fiance and I. I don't think he DESERVES to drive the car. He doesn't love it like I do. It doesn't "fit" him. He wants an RX8 - I mean, think he'd REALLY enjoy driving a MINI? He just wants to drive it to drive it. He won't know how to MOTOR.

My wife loves driving Henley as much as I do! I don't know whether to be or  ! I did marry her in part for her love of cars!

Her best comment yet, as I was pulling out of a toll booth, was..."go, pulley, go!"

WINECHIC - We'll be sure to help you through the wait...even though your car is going to make ours feel old

Winchic, it won't be your problem since you've decided to get an undamaged, truly new car (good decision, I think, if you can stand the wait).

Even so, Wannid-to-be-Monty should never be sold as new. Would you post the VIN somewhere so the dealer can't repair it cosmetically and sell it as new to someone desperate -- like we've all come close to experiencing recently? I was thinking about my car buying experience. If I saw a car I liked on a dealer's lot, specially a knock-your-eye-out Mini, I think I might buy it on the spot. Unless the dealer made a point of telling me about it, I would not find out about the attachment to the VIN you mention until too late. I have no reason to think your dealer is unscrupulous, but who knows finally. Down the road, this will cost the owner, so s/he should pay a lot less up front.

WannaMini,

Do you have any comments for me about your Leatherette? I'd love to hear your impressions, and anyone else that recently had their car with leatherette delivered. I have always liked it when I go to the dealers to drool, but Im always curious about it.

Leatherette

AppleCello,

Hi, Pigwidgeon (my MCS) has leatherette interior, and so far it seems to be good (of course, I haven't had it a week yet ). It seems to be easy to clean, and it has stood up well to children climbing all over it. And, of course, it looks good.

One negative is that I seem to sweat like a pig while sitting on it--and I'm generally not one to sweat much . Granted, it is June in Alabama, but it does seem to be a little excessive. I'm looking forward to cooler weather.

GAH! - the OL keeps changing my delivery date. On the 16th, they moved it from the 16th to the 18th, and on the 17th they moved it from the 18th to the 17th! In other words - yesterday they moved it from yesterday to tomorrow, and today they moved it from tomorrow to today! /me goes mad

So very sad to hear about your car winechic I wish you were a June build so that you could come on our thread too! You would have duel citisenship as it were. I missed the first inning at the Giants game today explaining to my buddy how what happened to your car. He knows I would be checked in to therapy had this happened to me. You have a great attitude. I hope you get the body colored dash, as I think that is a cool 05 option. Plus 7 extra hp for your trouble. Hopefully, these 7 horses are nicer then your one was.

I have the leatherette in my MCS. 1045 miles later and I still love it. Very grippy, works well with the bolsters of the seat to hold you comfortably in place. It is a little warm if you are already sweaty when you get in the car, or if the car is really hot...but again it's not unbearably hot/sticky like old-skool vinyl.

It also cleans up really well....a swipe with the vacuum and any dust on the seats is gone. I hated the cloth in my VW Golf because it would never come clean.

All told I'm really glad I got it...others who have seen and/or ridden in the car have liked it quite a lot also.

Actually, Yes. The RX8 was my second choice...well...third if you count the Lotus Elise, but we don't have that much $$$. The 8 is a wonderful car. Never drove one, but I owned a RX7, so I'M well aware the thrills of an 9000rpm redline. The cockpit just "fits", as well.

That said...Charlie is absolutely AWESOME. Its great waiting three years for something and it being absolutely everything you've hoped it would be. I had all these mods planned out before she arrived and then I look and see that she's pretty perfect the way she is. Maybe an exhaust later, but for now...let's motor.

I'll update with pics as soon as I get her washed. We're getting hit pretty hard with rain as I speak and she's still got 400 miles of bugs and bits of the PA turnpike on her. Even still...she looks great.

But, I need some sleep. Have a good night all and dream of your new babies.

Just wanted to give an update, since I haven't done so in awhile (for good reason). Nothing new to report!

Haven't been able to track the Maersk Taiyo on the ocean wetaher web sites, so the last known status for me is "loaded on 6/1"

Congrats to all of you who are motoring!

What's your MA/dealer saying? Some of our cars were at the dealer for days while the OL still said they were at the distribution center.

Personalized plate vote

OK Maydayers (yeah, I know I said I was going to bed...sue me. ), I need your help choosing a license plate. My top choices are:

MINIMZE
MINIMZD
ISHRUNK
MITMINI
FUN2MTR
NOT2SML

If you see one that you thought you came up with in a different thread...you probably did. Something about imitation and flattery, i think. I'm leaning toward ISHRUNK or FUN2MTR. The wife likes MINIMZE (got a computer feel, which fits me). Any thoughts?

I added the auto dipping mirror and rain sensing wipers. And the funny thing is that I ordered them just to see if it would be too late to add. It wasn't, and it was added. It was like $150, but well worth it!!! The mirror turns this pretty bluish color - somehow it knows exactly what "hue" to be at! I love it. Probably my favorite option actually! Oh, that and the sunroof - oh, and the Auto AC. I love that, too....

OMG - I LOVE the Leatherette!!!!!!!!!!!! And it's so durable, and it doesn't bunch, and you know what? Most people think it's leather. When I was first making the decision about what to get, and I heard the dreaded term "Vinyl" - I pictured the old 70s cars with the plastic vinly that was shiny and always ripped - no, this is some quality stuff. It's the same Leatherette they use in their BMWs. So when I saw it, I knew that was the decision. I had heard the leather isn't the greatest quality, and I was happy to save the $1300.

Ah yes, the sweat factor. BUT - if it's dreadfully hot, you'll sweat on cloth, too, just that the cloth will absorb the sweat which makes me like, "Eeeew!" The Leatherette won't absorb the swear, granted, leaving you a bit messy, bit the seats stay clean
