R50/53 The "Can't wait for October" club
A Tai Shan fact:
BigBlu - my blk/wht rf MC was reported by Wall-Wil as loaded on the Tai Shan this morning (Mon Sept 22 8:21 Southampton UK time. Note that it wa s REPORTED as loaded. That could mean that the Tai Shan sailed away yesterday (21st as posted here on the Oct forum).
My production number is TC49050, and I had a scheduled completion of 12 September. They actually completed production on Sept. 11.
Thought you may have wanted comparative data.
Good luck and happy miles,
John

Still no luck finding the Tai Shan on oceanweather.com/data. Call sign LAZP4. When and if they call in with weather, does their location remain fixed or does it dissappear after a set amount of time since the data would no longer be relevant? If it does "drop off", has anyone else caught sight of it?
Could I be more obsessive?

>>Great news. As a fellow 9/26er I'm hoping mine is finished soon. It appears that I am 300 cars behind you on the line based upon VIN#, so maybe by the end of the week I'll be, which I guess will be on time.
>>
>>Anyone recall the rough time it takes from completion to reaching the boat docks? Days or weeks?

Mike, I've been told (by ASK MINI) that it could take a few days before it arrives at the boat docks... possibly up to a week! I'm also a 9/26er and I'm about 200 VINs behind you (I'm TD76000). I was hoping that my car would be done early so that it could make the boat heading for the west coast this week... I seriously doubt it though. I just got off the phone with ASK MINI and was told that my MINI went into production on 9/17 but will not actually start until today or tomorrow. AAARRRGGGHHH!!!! I am not sure when the next West Coast boat is scheduled to sail... does anyone else here know?

So true! While I am hoping to be motoring by Sunday, actual delivery may not happen for another week and a half. We shall see.

>>My MINI was finally discharged from the Jingu Maru at 4:11PM today (2 hours ago) and now its on its way to the VPC!!!>>
OK, I'm not mad or anything....but why the heck is my MINI not shown as being unloaded from the Jingu Maru??? New York was originally listed as the port of destination....so when it wasn't let off the boat there I assumed it must be heading south. Well, now it still hasn't been unloaded according to the WW site. :???: :???: When is my MINI going to get on land?!?!?!?

On the oceanweather.com/data site do we only look at the blue signs? I assume the blue ones are for cargo ships and the red ones are some other kind. I thought I saw the TANABATAs call sign (WCZ5535) but I didnt. They better report some dang weather before the week is over, I'll die if I dont know where Andre is in the big blue at least once!

TiMINITim,
Ryephile posted something a while saying that WW's website isn't always updated on time. It took a while for mine to show up as loaded on the Tai Shan. I wouldn't get too worried. Although, maybe a few minis decided to take a midnight skinnydip out in the pond and yours forgot to get back on....
If that is the case, call the Coast Guard, they'll get a helicopter out there for you!

Mike:
Thanks for the empathy. My car started production on 9/11 and was completed on 9/22--11 days total. I have no idea whether this is representative.
A quick survey of the responses here suggests that from completion to boat takes a matter of days. Even though it was pointless I couldn't help but punch my VIN into the WW tracking engine. It will start spitting back something meaningful soon enough!

>>Just go to the schedules page and search by ports, choose UK then USA and the date you want, then Southampton and Port Hunem... (I think thats the west coast port, and Im not too sure of the spelling).
Thanks for this great link. I see that if my car, which was completed today, can make it to the boat by either 9/30 or 10/1 it could be in NY by 10/10! Even if it made it by 10/4 it could be at the pier by 10/19, which was my original expectation.
I've got my wheels and tires in the basement. I painted my garage floor over the weekend. I'm ready!!! Well.... I haven't yet been able to sell my hyper modified 1990 Jetta GLI, but that'll happen--I think.

The car is great. I love it.
Except that I was rear-ended by a kid talking on a cell phone. He was driving a Dodge Magnum Truck (somewhere in between a full-size and a compact). He did 2217.00 worth of damage and did about 1500.00 to the front of his truck. Am I nervous driving a MINI after the accident? Not at all. The car is solid-built like a rock. I am even more impressed with the build quality after the accident. I expected the Mini to fare much worse, but the body guy says other than replacing the bumper, it's really just cosmentic damage–the chasis is fine.
It should be ready this week.
But I really do not have too many complaints. Just that infamous "stumble" (see stumbel thread elsewhere on this site) problem, but I find if I launch it between 2000-3000 rpms with the DSC off, it's not quite as noticeable. Other than that, it's been great so far. I have a wife, a medium sized dog, and an 11 month son and we've been traveling in it quite a bit. Haven't done any trips over 2 hours yet. I got the optional luggage rack, but I haven't needed to use it-yet.
So I guess right now, I really am sort of back with you guys as I wait for my car to be ready. It's been in the shop almost a week and it seems like an eternity because now I'm driving the wife's Saturn wagon which is like driving around in a turtle with a loose shell.

I was just browsing the oceanweather.com/data site, and noticed that they gave a table of the last days observations, sorted by call sign. That way you dont have to look at that map, which only shows the updates for that hour. Just thought I'd let you guys know just in case you didnt.

Now it's time to pull together the 'delivery checklist' and also email my MA to be sure they set the car up correctly and don't go putting any dealer stickers/badges

We'll see. I sure hope my MINI was unloaded in NY my dealer is just a bit north of the VPC!
The second point reminds me that I need to call my MA about those d#@m dealer badges!

Guess where that's from, that's right, all you TANABATA riders better go over to oceanweather.com/data and look at the map because it's about half way between the UK and Canada on the 30W line! They reported today at noon, which is 15 minutes from now east coast time, but where they are it's probably like 2 or 3pm already. Come on fellas, pick up the pace, throw some more steam in the boiler!
Now I'm estimating arrival in Charleston on the 30th or the 1st.
