Navigation & Audio [eas] Official DICE iPod integration kit Q/A thread
80GB iPod is not much more than a nano, get the extra space if you can afford it.
Here's a NEWB question for you guys... I am planning to get an iPod and DICE or HD DICE. I know nothing about iPods. Where can I find info on which model iPod to get?
I don't have any imediate urge to put videos on it
I only own like 50 CD's
If they differ on this, I'd like the most durable iPod.
This will go in an '08 convertible. Where should I put the HD stealth antenna, if I go HD? I'd like for it to be invisible. Does the cloth roof give me more options?
Lastly, some HD questions... I live about 100 miles from Dallas. What is the range on the HD stuff compared to regular FM radio?
Thanks!
Brian

Tom -
Didn't get an email (maybe you didn't get mine?) so I thought I'd post an update here.
Disconnected the DICE last night, left it disconnected all night. Reconnected this morning, plugged in the Ipod, and...it worked!.....sorta. I was careful not to push 'disc 5' because that seems to always lock it up. Anyway, I was navigating through playlists, and songs, trying to get to podcasts, which I never found. Finally, I just decided to listen to some music, and so I was searching by 'artist', but it would only go back and forth between two songs.
Okay, maybe some mode I have it in, I pressed 'disc 1' to try to get back to 'all', and then it stopped working again. CDC is not selectable with the 'mode' button.
Something else I noticed, I couldn't press the 'music' button to change the sound settings (balance/fade/bass/treble) because the text kept overriding the display. Is that normal?
Anyway, this was about 10 minutes of freeway driving before it died again. As of right now it is sitting in the parking lot dead.
Help!

I have no emails concerning DICE for MINIs from anyone at this time. Are you sending to the correct address?
Please send a copy through our email system here: http://www.europeanautosource.com/contact_us.php

Okay, I submitted it through the website. The original email was sent to the address in your signature (tom@european......) on Monday June 16th, if you are looking for it. Since that email, I've gotten the unit to work but only for short durations before it dies.
DICE, Alpine ex-10 or new head unit?
I would like Bluetooth, but not required, and would like to have an aux plug for my Nuvi 760 if possible.
I don't want to spend a ton, but don't want FM reception either.
An a scale of 1-10 my tech abilities are about 7, so I probably will need a trusted installer in the Chicago area as well.
Any recomendations?

does the dice work with aftermarket or just oem? which is better?
I have an '06 Mini S with a Kenwood HU and MFSW adaptor that doesn't work because of the stupid RF not reaching the receiver. If the OEM is better for the Dice interface I'll reinstall the OEM HU. I just want my MFSW working again, I have the controls and would like to have that convenience back. =)

I own a MINI 2004 Cooper w/ the stock radio so the Dice HD would be no good for me. With the earlier DICE version work? I am trying to connect both my Iphone/ipod as well as my portable XM. If not, would you be able to point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Thanks
Non HD DICE kits will be fine.
Just released today!
For those wanting a bit of a simplified system, the DICE Universal Car kit for iPod allows you to connect the iPod to your factory BMW radio within minutes using the included installation harness. If your radio is capable of receiving RDS broadcasts (Radio Data System - most MINI applications are), you will see Song Title & Artist information on the radio screen. Charging is also provided - keeping your iPod ready to go at all times.
For 00-04 MINIs without CD text support - this is your answer!
This is especially a plus for vehicles that do did not have text display with our current SILVERLINE kits or simply do not want the Clickwheel to lock when attached to the Dock Connector. The DICE Universal RDS iPod integration kit is a wired FM modulated (not transmitted) connection to your factory radio. A wired connection provides a direct statis-free connection, eliminating unwanted radio interference.
All control is performed via your iPod's Clickwheel for easy access to your music library. A fixed 128kbps bitrate ensures superior audio quality to that of FM transmitters or other add-on kits.
The DICE Universal RDS iPod module transfers information between the iPod and radio through an included iPod-specific docking cable, as if it were an original BMW accessory.
New features of DICE SILVERLINE iPod Integration kit include:
- Direct integrated connection, without the need for FM transmitters or cassette adapters
- Easy installation, about 30 minutes.
- Full Artist/Song Text display (RDS-supported Head Units)
- Full control of your iPod via the Clickwheel while in play
- Full charging mode for iPods through included dock connector
- Allows CD Changer Retention

Contents:
- DICE Universal RDS BMW Integration Module
- Power Harness with BMW-Specific Antenna Adapter kit
- BlackOut Dock Connector
Models Supported:

Does this version of DICE have an AUX input as well for satellite radio integration?

The RDS kit does not have AUX input.
Ahh.. That's a shame. If it did I would say that it would be the "end all, be all" for ipod/iphone car integration. It seems like a step back by not including this feature, especially since it was included in the past two incarnations of the device. I would think the option to add an AUX would be primary to having text on the cd player. While I can't imagine how anyone would not buy the DICE w/ AUX due to lack of text display, I can see many people not buying this newer version, which would kill their AUX input abilities, just to have text display. I know this because that is why I couldn't and wouldn't buy this.
A great idea. Just not fully realized.

iPod resetting to replay songs on its own
My Dice install went well and I'm really enjoying it, but twice the songs started replaying, and I found that the iPod setting to replay songs had been set. I changed it back to Off, and a few days later it happened again. Spooky? Anyone experience this or have any thoughts or solutions?
Dice unit is connected at the radio with the included harness. Today the iPod is showing the Dice logo on the screen but the head unit shows it as detached. Rebooted the iPod but no change. Help, Tom!
