Navigation & Audio [eas] Official DICE iPod integration kit Q/A thread
What about the XM? To be honest I'm planning on going with XM first, then once I actually get the iPod hooking that up. Do I buy the XM Direct kit, then the DICE iPod kit? Where do they hook up if I'm using them both, and how do they work (ie do they both display on the deck, control by the radio, steering buttons, etc)
Here's the items you need instead:
DICE iPod Integration Kit for MINI Cooper/Cooper S
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...roducts_id=314
XM Direct Satellite Radio Package for BMW & Mini
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...roducts_id=267
You can install one or both at the same time.
You can install in stages, not a problem. If you would like to use XM, you will need the Trunk interface DICE instead of the radio interface kit.

The one we offer is the pass-thru, I can't see why anyone would want the version without. All connections are made in the boot area, there is 15 feet of cable to install the iPod anywhere you wish in the vehicle.
Thanks for all the helpful responses Tom! I really appreciate it!
Hi
I got my DICE from EAS today and installed it
It was easy and simple to install --took me less than 10min
The problem:
I have 3rd gen nano and it locks the wheel button.
It means that you have only contorl through the radio.
You can't see the album art or anything
I''m pretty disapoint......
However,
Neo (http://www.neocaraudio.com/index.php) is compatible with everything
I think Dice should update the firmware or somthing.
By the way, EAS is great place to shop though fast and responsible.

Dang! It looks like I bought wrong unit. I bought the Dice a few months ago and now it won't work with my new Classic. It looks like Neo will fully support the Classic and the 3G Nano. I opened a ticket with Dice and they just said to use 'simple mode' which means no text on the head unit. No mention of any plans to address the issue or an upgrade path to a new product. I guess anyone with the Dice unit who wants to upgrade their iPod is screwed. Very, very annoying!

As for the Classic & 3rd Generation nano, this is the way the iPod reacts to accessories - this is a reaction from the iPod, not the DICE. We're looking to see if there is a way to allow the Clickwheel to remain unlocked on these models, but all DICE-specific features are still 100% functional.
The Neo unit is nothing more than a rebadged DICE, it is the same unit.

I would also like to get the HD kit, but I do not want to have to run a seperate antenna. Don't mind using the same wires I have and replacing the antenna I have, but I don't want to have two. I have a convertible and it would be a little cramped up on the windshield header.
Thanks,
Lee
Understand this is a change to the Nano. If we purchase a DICE kit now, and this lock out problem is resolved, are we guaranteed a "fix" in the DICE unit, or is it just a "possibility" that it will get fixed and just a "possibility" that the fix can be retrofitted. I would definately like one of these units, but I don't want to buy one and then not be able to get the "fix" should it become available.

We cannot guarantee there will be a fix at this stage, but are looking into it. Remember this is a reaction of the iPod, not the DICE. If it can be corrected through firmware - the module can be updated.
We have a "stealth" version of the antenna we'll be offering soon for HD DICE users - that will not be seen from the outside. As soon as it is completed, we will be announcing availability on the website and forums.

Please keep us posted on the HD upgrade. I'm on the fence, but want to jump soon.

If a firmware fix is presented - your module can be sent in for reprogramming. As for the HD DICE antenna, we'll make the announcement when ready, this will cover existing HD DICE users as well.
One question. Reading through this thread I found some people are using iPhones. I haven't tried it with my DICE yet because I was worried about not being able to use the phone part. I use the apple b/t ear piece in the car (Army regs). If I use the Iphone can I still use the phone part of it?

Some confusion here - the Neo website specifically says its supports iPod classic and 3G Nano. My solution was to return my Classic and snag a new 80GB 5.5 generation iPod from Apple. Works great. Sounds great.
Since you now have a 5.5G Video, you will have Clickwheel operation as well.
Dice Woes..
I finally got around to re-routing the DICE cable. If anyone remembers I had a bad case of alternator whine but only when playing the iPod via the Dice.
I have H/K (amp fills the RR pocket) and OEM Sirius (tuner fills the LR pocket). I had to use the extra BMW cable to connect the pass-thru port on the Sirius tuner to the DICE cable and route everything forward from the LR corner. Because of cable lengths I had chosen to route the Dice cable forward along the left side of the MCS under the interior trim molding and up into the dash where the Dice module was located. This routed the Dice audio cable very close to the battery cable and a large bundle of power wires that also run down the left side.
An audio noise filter (from EAS) didn't solve the problem, so I finally removed the rear seat and pulled the Dice cable out and experimented with a cable route that avoided the power cable bundle as much as possible - crossing over to the RH side below the rear seat then forward under the lower door entry trim and into the dash. This removed the annoying whine to a barely noticeable state - my wife didn't even notice it until I played something very quiet (Enya) and still commented that she would have noticed if I hadn't said something.
So - if you have an '06 or older MCS , have added the OEM Sirius, and want to add the Dice iPod interface or Dice HD unit - be sure to route the cable across to the RH side of the car and avoid the annoying whine.

Funny I have the same 2006 MCS and OEM Sirius with the same whine problem until yesterday. I had the DPSM installed at my dealer and paid (again) to have the cable replaced. My labor costs have exceeded the price of the unit...(yes I am busy and don't want to work on this car...just drive..) .They routed it down the left side (again) I had the old cable with the capacitor from EAS installed which had no effect on the whine. I am on my 3rd Dice unit and now, second cable installed. Probably need some mind altering drugs at this point....results? Well the whine is now gone. I think it had something to do with the cable. Now the thing won't play
When I picked my car up and paid the big tab the technician came out and was looking very tired. He said he had worked on this for a while and was getting noise on the system with cutout...When I turned the head unit on the ipod would not even come up in the mode selection. We then unplugged the end of the cable and it started working but cutting out and making a drumming background noise. (Very loud) I called Dice. Now these people are very nice and have worked with me to the ends of the earth to get all this corrected. I give EAS and Dice a 10 on customer service.
I love the way this unit is supposed to work but I just can't seem to get one to work...long story short, Dice is sending me another unit to exchange and try again. The saga continues....maybe my car was built on a bad day or something...one day I will get to use my ipod...

Dice Kit problem
Tom I bought my kit through you guys in July. I went through 19 pages and couldn't find an answer. My Dice kit/wHD it stopped working a few weeks ago. The stereo (non/nav) just reads "Pause" when i try to have it connect to the ipod. The ipod will be playing and nothing can be heard. It seems like it lost connection with it. I have disconnected it and the stereo still will read "pause".
When the Dice kit was working it would get locked on a playlist and not let me forward or rewind to another playlist, not sure if both of these issues are connected.
Tom any solutions? thanks for providing all the support on the forum.

Help w/Dice and Blitzsafe w/pass-thru
Tom: I bought the Dice trunk interface and I am trying to install it with the Blitzsafe w/pass-thru that I already have setup in my Mini Cooper. The Blitzsafe pass-thru cable is the round 8 pin kind and the cable that the Dice comes with has the 6 and 3 pin right? Do I need a converter cable? How do I do the connection if I want both the Blitzsafe for XM and the Dice for Ipod? Help, I can't get any info on your website, i try giving you a call at EAS and wrote and email to support with no answer. thanks.
Dice with Blitzsafe SLD 03
Tom: some more info, I just realized that I have the Blitzsafe SLD 03 with the ipod pass-thru not the SLD 01 with the CD changer pass-thru, the reason why I have the SLD 03 is because I use to have the iPod adapter but my car was broken into and it was stolen so I decide to go thru Dice this time. Is there a way to conect Dice using the SLD 03? or do I have to exchange it or go back to iPod adapter?

Well of course that would be the best, but also the most expensive way to go, I already paid ~140 for Dice plust another ~150 for SLD-01, that is a lot more than returning DICE and getting an ipod adapter again. Not much help here!
