Navigation & Audio [eas] Official DICE iPod integration kit Q/A thread
Does anyone know where I can get an iPod extension cable? The cable that came with the Dice unit is bit too short. I keep the iPod in my glove compartment and there just isn't enough cable to pull the iPod out and use the click wheel to make a selection. The cable would have to be M -> F 30 pin iPod to 30 pin iPod. Or a longer cable from the Dice unit to the iPod to replace the cable that came with the Dice unit would do it.

Hope to see you soon!
Blacksheep,
I returned my Classic and got a 5.5 generation 80GB iPod Video. Works great with the Dice in my mcsc. I keep it in the glove compartment. I have 5000 tracks at 256kbps and 700 podcasts with 30GB to spare. I still don't understand why Apple did this with the new iPods.

anyhoo, i'm 99% pleased with dice, cept for the non-usable click wheel, which is an APPLE issue. now that's very very irritating cuz i haven't yet been able to get my hands on an 80gb 5.5video.
on a side note, my encoding is at 320 cbr. does anyone have any idea if the head unit makes any difference to the sound quality? eg, using the boost as oppose to smtg that has a 2x 24bit dac? is there goin to be an audible difference?

In the finishing stages - we'll make the announcement when ready.
Hey Tom,
I apologize if this has been asked and answered... I have a Jan 05 build car and factory deck. I realize I wont have ID3 or HD support with my current radio, but if get the HD-Dice and have the plans of eventually upgrading my factory deck to an April 05 Stereo or later, can I still use the Ipod functions on my current deck until I upgrade to a newer factory deck? Or are the funtions tied together somehow and wont work on an older radio...
Thanks,
Brad

Your radio may have text display, we'll need to perform a software check:
1. Turn Radio Off.
2. Turn Radio On.
3. Press and hold the "m" button for about 10 seconds.
4. Press < or > to navigate, you will need to go to the 2nd screen to look for the SW Verison which is in a SV xx-xx xx format.
Let me know what that number is and we'll see if you are compatible. If you are not found to be compatible, a newer radio would gain this feature back.

My software version is : SV 51-04 47
So I guess my question then is: will the HD-Dice work with the Ipod only functions (limited functionality) until I can upgrade the Head Unit to get full functionality, or will I have to buy a normal Dice for the HU I have now, and then an HD-Dice when I upgrade the unit?
It will work, however it will be impossible to use the HD radio portion of the kit. The iPod features (without text display) will still be compatible.
Tom,
Still waiting after 7 months:
05 Convertible with NAV and HK unit.
Compatible with the NAV unit yet, text and no interference with it cutting out guidance or maps?
Thanks.
My question above I have asked a few times before, now change the waiting time to 11 months... It does not seem like this is either a priority or something you will be able to get working, correct?

MINI Trunk Kit Cable?
Tom or anyone else who has done the trunk kit install:
I received my DICE kit today (Finally! Thanks Tom!) and took account of its contents. Perhaps I'm jumping the gun, as I haven't even been out to the MINI yet, but is this the correct cable that goes b/w the DICE and the preinstalled CD Changer cable in the boot? If so, perhaps I'm not visualizing the installation properly yet.
Thanks.

That cable would most definitely attach to the back of your radio.
EDIT: Oh and BTW, it's called a "boot" when you're talking about a MINI. British cars don't have what we yanks call a "trunk".

DICE Kit Problems
Hi Tom,
I have a 5th generation ipod with 1.2.3 Firmware. I haven't been back on this forum to respond because back in October I took your advice and disconnected my battery cables on my Mini and it worked again. Since then the unit has stopped working multiple times. It gives me three different messages on my headunit. It will say either "Pause" "Inif" or "Stop". All of these messages require me to disconnect my battery cables to get the DICE to reset and work again, but a few hours/days later it will again stop functioning. It continues to do some weird things with the playlists, it will start playing a playlist that includes every song on my ipod although there isn't one created. When this happens I can't navigate to another playlist unless I manually do it on the ipod. Also when listening to playlists my text display at times will get stuck on songs that have played minutes prior. Not sure if I have a defective kit any advice will help,
Thanks
Chris.
Below is my a copy of my original post from October:Tom I bought my kit through you guys in July. I went through 19 pages and couldn't find an answer. My Dice kit/wHD it stopped working a few weeks ago. The stereo (non/nav) just reads "Pause" when i try to have it connect to the ipod. The ipod will be playing and nothing can be heard. It seems like it lost connection with it. I have disconnected it and the stereo still will read "pause".
When the Dice kit was working it would get locked on a playlist and not let me forward or rewind to another playlist, not sure if both of these issues are connected.
