Open the side passenger side cubby in the boot. Along the bottom there should be a small plug. Do you have a convertible BTW? I've heard that some 2006 convertibles do not have the CD changer prep.

Your other option is to get the Dice that plugs directly into the back of the head unit. So of course you must pull out the head unit, plug the Dice then put everything back. I think there's enough room behind the head unit for the Dice module. Can Tom from EAS confirm this?

Most people use the radio-interface kit, making searching for the CD Changer connectors useless. This will be a direct plug-in into the iPod connection:

DICE iPod Integration Kit for Mini Cooper (Radio Interface)

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Go to your boot/trunk, and look on the right hand side. There should be a removable panel with a cable that looks like this.

IMO, when ordering make sure you explicitly note you would like the trunk kit several times and wherever possible. Otherwise, you may end up with the radio harness kit and have to do a cable swap. That being said, I'm sure it will turn out fine, as my situation is probably a circumstance of how I had to order the item(s).

Yup, I've got that connection in the trunk. Seems to me that it would be the easiest to make the connection there rather than remove the head unit to get in behind it. I just had the rear seats out to replace the rear speakers so I know what's needed to get the wires under the seats. Any suggestions on the neatest way to get the wire from under the rear seats up to the the dash?

If you wish to use the trunk connectors, here's the kit you need:

DICE iPod Integration Kit for MINI Cooper/Cooper S
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...roducts_id=314

The cable can be run up the doorsill to the cabin area easily.

I'd throw two more pennies your way if I had installed it already. Its just too damn cold to do the install right now.

What Tom is suggesting seems to be what everyone else is doing (or close to it).

Ok, I have an aux input plugged in the back of my radio, and a Blitzsafe XMD-100 (no pass-through) plugged in the trunk with an XM tuner. I want to sell my AUX input and install (hopefully) a DICE iPod unit - maybe the radio version? But I still want XM. Do I need to sell my Blitzsafe XMD-100 trunk unit and replace that with a DICE unit (are there any benefits aside from adding a passthrough for an ipod input?) or can I just buy a DICE radio unit and plug it into my head unit, and still have XM?

I gotta tell you, I've been doing aftermarket stereo install and modification on the side for years, and this combination stuff with the MINI is so confusing! Are there two outputs on the back of the radio (one that my AUX is plugged into now, one that goes to the trunk to my XM blitzsafe?)

Are there any specific instructions for installing the DICE with the radio interface cable in an 06 S (no HK)? The instructions that came with the DICE are operation instructions, not installation....where/how do you mount the DICE unit behind the HU, does the cable just plug in etc? Any help would be appreciated....

The cable will plug in between the radio and the MINI wiring harness. Please email your request and I will reply with radio removal instructions.

So does that mean I can buy the DICE kit, install it between the radio and MINI harness, use that as a direct interface for my iPod, and leave the xm/blitzsafe untouched out back? Would the source button be able to distinguish between the iPod, XM, and even the AUX unit (I'm getting rid of that anyways, but for argument's sake)?

Thanks!

If you have XM, you will need the trunk interface instead. the radio interface kit will disable the trunk connectors, which are needed for XM integration.

Simply plug in the DICE into the XM Direct's CD Changer connectors (if you have the SLD-01 adapter) and you're set. If you do not have the correct Blitzsafe adapter, we have them in stock.

Tom, check your email.
My DICE ipod unit for the 06 S with Boost does not work properly. I've tried everything you've suggested. Time for a replacement, I think. Please contact me to arrange this.
Thanks,
Jim

I'm kind of confused now..
Reading through the thread didn't help much. :(

I have an '05 MCS with factory Navi.

Which DICE integration kit do I need, and will it display on the factory Navi screen? Will the Navi work at the same time?

I just purchased a new DICE integration kit and new Nano Ipod over the holidays and much to my dissapointment the combination doesn't work as I expected. The latest generation Nano IPod is not totally compatible with the Dice. BE WARNED. Don't expect the IPod controles to work from the IPod. The only controls that work are from the mini. For example, if you have the Ipod set to 'shuffle' the songs, it shuffles the songs until you unplug it from the car, change the setting and then plug it back in. You'll have to memorize the names for you playlist, because the IPod won't display them. The DICE is still useful, but not as I expected. On the Europeon Auto Source web site they stipulate that the Nano software version has to be 1.1.1 (as I recall) That version is different from the latest Nano on the market. It would have been nice if the web site had spelled that out.

At this time, the text display will overwrite the Navigation maps on the MINIs meaning text will need to be disabled if you wish to use NAV and the iPod at the same time.

DICE is looking into a solution, but has not been successful. In the meantime, we're keeping our fingers crossed.

A few pre-installation questions

1) The DICE User Manual states that the Car Configuration Switch's features are currently inactive. They way I read this is to leave both dip switches in the OFF position and don't worry my pretty little head about that switch. Is this correct?

2) The DICE User Manual iPod Configuration Switch section has a table that shows both switches ON or both switches OFF. Are these the only operable positions of the switches?

3) I want text to display on my radio's LCD. If I read correctly, that requires me to press DISC 6 and select track 01. Is this correct?

4) The BMW DICE Installation supplement suggests removing both battery terminals for the install. Later on, it suggests you test the unit out before running the cable from the boot to the front. Obviously, this would require you to reconnect the terminals to execute a test. My question is, after testing the DICE unit, should I disconnect the battery terminals again, or am I in the clear to remove the DICE, turn the cable, and reconnect the DICE up front?

Also, are there any side effects to removing the battery terminals that I should be aware of? I recall (perhaps incorrectly) reading some people got locked out of their radios or their computers reset when removing battery terminals.

Thanks,
Christopher

Correct.

Default position is OFF (up), the switches should remain in the off position.

No need to set text, as the DICE module will already be preset to a non-NAV display. Simply plug in and go.

It depends. If the module is removed, the battery cables should be removed/reconnected to reinitialize the kit again. If not, you should not have to repeat the step.

Let me know if you need anything else.

I have a iphone which one should I get the DICE on the back of the radio or in the trunk one. Do I get the title on the radio with the DICE. I get the title of the song and station name from the radio. But my Manufactor Date on the driver side said 12/03

The radio interface kit is preferred on the MINI, however your radio will not display text. It will need to be 2005+ for this feature to be present.

Tom,

I know that you do not support the Navigation models yet, and probably never will, but if we do have NAV and are just content with text on the radio itself, can us NAV owner install this without any other interference to the NAV, and will the unit work like we didnt have the NAV and just ignore the display of the NAV? My wife REALLY wants ipod integration and I want the sound quality of a true connection not an AUX. What is your suggestion of which kit to buy, if this is a viable option?

What are the benefits of the radio kit over the boot kit? I am about to buy the boot kit and saw this post. I am assuming I can add a Bluetooth kit and keep the AUX adapter with either.
