Navigation & Audio [eas] Official DICE iPod integration kit Q/A thread
Have this same problem. How can this be solved?
My Dice install went well and I'm really enjoying it, but twice the songs started replaying, and I found that the iPod setting to replay songs had been set. I changed it back to Off, and a few days later it happened again. Spooky? Anyone experience this or have any thoughts or solutions?
Also, there are other times when a song is playing and the text shows the info for the previous song. The song ends and starts playing the next and the text changes but is one song behind.
Please help

XAvier
Perhaps a dumb question, but why can't the DICE Silverline charge my 3G now? It charges the iTouch just fine...
Touch still charges via firewire, iPhone 3G is USB.
Tom,
Maybe a comment to this issue. It seems to get overlooked quite regulary...
When I try to adjust Bass/Treble/etc. during iPod playback (while in CDC mode), the song title etc. overlays the setting text and I can't adjust them.
Thanks,
Volker

Unfortunately - you can't - you will need to enter into AM/FM/CD mode to adjust the settings or turn text off.
Tom,
Have this same problem. How can this be solved?
Randomly also have this last one. I have an Ipod Touch with the 1.4 software version, MY08 Cooper S Convertible (R52).
Also, there are other times when a song is playing and the text shows the info for the previous song. The song ends and starts playing the next and the text changes but is one song behind.

Tom,
You seem to have overlooked part of my post.

According to my 3G iPhone instructions, it charges on a regular iPod adapter. I charge my iTouch and 3G iPhone on the same dock at home without a problem.
Trust me - it's different, lots of other iPod-specific integrations kits are redesigning the kits in order to be compatible for the change.
The dock from my 3rd Gen iPod (40GB) won't work for the iPhone 3 G,
the cable that came with the dock is FW and won't work either.
The cable that came with my 5th Gen iPod is USB and works with both iPods and the 3G iPhone.
My car cable from Belkin (which I bought back in the days with my 3rd Gen)works for both iPods but not for the 3G iPhone.
As for the reason... I think 3rd Gen up to 5th Gen where capable for both FW and USB. Somewhere after that it is USB only.

The two are much different when charging is concerned. We will have a 3G iPhone-friendly cable ready by Dec.
I didn't really test if everything else still works (let me test that on the weekend, I'm currently on business travel).
I can't really make up my mind if I would recommend the DICE over an Aux input... I have an 80GB iPod connected to the iPod interface of the DICE, my iPhone can be connected to the DICE via the Aux input of the DICE (using headphone out on the iPhone).
The iPod I'm not really updating that frequent but the iPhone gets all my new music as well as podcasts etc.
I might invest in another dock to use the line out of the dock over the headphone out to get a cleaner signal.
In my ears, the quality improves between iPod connection over Aux in as well.
Controlling 55GB of music via the CD changer controls, no possible without getting into rage or crashing the car.
Everything besides what you also can control from the sterring wheel (volume, prev/next song) ,if you control it from the radio -> danger or even suicide.
IMO, you have to work heavily with playlists and learn them for easy navigation and handling, almost like having an iPod shuffle.
e.g. I'm currently in an ASIA phase (haven't left that phase since the 80's).
Going by Artist, shouldn't be too bad, right ?! Wrong...
Asia is number 76 on my list of 1600 Artists.
To get there can already cancel your warranty for your head unit because of abnormal and excessive usage

So I create a playlist with ASIA, containing the following album (no idea of the order at the moment)
-Asia
-Alpha
-Astra
-Aria
-Aqua
-Then&Now
-Phoenix
-Live in Moscow
-Silent Nation
Point in case, I switch often between the earlier songs and newer ones.
While I know which Album I need to go, the playlist forces me to go by song, which in case of 'An extraordinary Life' from Phoenix means about the same number of clicks like getting to Asia via Artist.
*CORRECTION*
I just encountered something I didn't see/know before.
If you choose a playlist (in my example one that contains Rush and Asia) you can then use the by artist feature to switch between the artists as well as by album to switch between these. That means DISC 1,3 and 4 are direct related to the playlist you are currently in.

so this is what i understand so far from this thread...
the two kits available for the mini are the..
radio interface which includes the dice module, ipod connector, and a wiring harness that connects to the back of head unit.
trunk interface which includes the dice module, ipod connector, and a wiring harness that connects to the pre-wired cd changer plug in the trunk.
is this correct?
i have an 03 cooper S w. no cd changer and im guessing the trunk interface would be recommended, but can i get the radio interface to eliminate running the wire to the back?

Tom et al,
I am seriously considering a DICE Universal RDS iPod integration kit to connect my iPod Touch to my 2004 MCS.
My question: Is the wired FM Modulation connection going to give me decent sound quality? I am specifically looking for a way to connect my touch to the MINI via the dock connection for best sound quality. I do not care if the track title etc shows up on the (stock) HU display, although it is fine if it does. I do not want to use the HU controls for anything except volume control.
So, If I want full access to the Touch UI, and a simple solution that charges my ipod and sounds good, is the RDS the answer?
Thanks!
Doug

Since text display is not a concern, you will be set.
No, I would recommend the DICE SILVERLINE in Simple UI mode do that the audio quality is not capped at 128kbps due to FM modulation.
Since text display is not a concern, you will be set.

Tom ,maybe you can help with my problems. After installing the Dice kit for the IPOD I've come up with a few problems.
. The IPOD is locked when its hooked up to the Dice
. IPOD screen says "OK to disconnect" when connected to Dice.
. Sometimes radio displays says detached when the unit isn't.
. Only scrolls on radio display after unplugging wires that come from the rear and replugging them in unit. After awhile it freezes song title on radio display.I don't think it always powers down the IPOD.
. Sometimes the IPOD repeat setting gets change by itself to repeat song.
I have a 2007 Mini S convert with a HK radio. My IPOD is a 80GB classic or 5th Gen. I'm not sure which one. Thanks for any help.

Is anyone else having weird radio display issues after upgrading their iPod firmware?
I updated my Touch to 2.2 last night, and now my playlists are only scrolling portions of the song information. Sometimes it freezes until the next song comes on.
