Navigation & Audio [eas] Official DICE iPod integration kit Q/A thread
Well "I" was able to solve my stereo system problem and I now have sound and control.
I'm not going to mention what it took to fix the problem I'll let Tom take care of that!
He will soon have the answer as I just received the return instructions. As Tom said earlier no Dice system has caused damage to a BMW/MINI stock system, this still holds true as far as I know. There was a problem but it's not my MINI so there's only one place it could be...

Tom - I think you've been incredibly patient with all this. Thanks for a great product and great support here on the forum. I love my DICE!
nice to see that someone else shares my opinion, I found the stories that were dished out about the DICE frying , ruining, etc. a bit too much.
Tom, thanks for answering all my emails as well. I find your support here in the forum great, keep it up.

I got my DICE Silverline iPod integration kit and installed last night. So far, VERY impressed with the kit, the ease of installation, and the results (sound quality, navigation functions, MFSW controls, etc). I managed to get the radio out, install the kit, route the cables, and put it all back together in less than an hour. On top of that, I fixed the "play" in my driver's-side downtube.
One question though - I only seem to be able to adjust the bass/treble settings when on "CD6". In other modes, the menu disappears almost as soon as it appears, as if the scrolling text overrides the menu. Also, the sound quality is much clearer than when using the factory aux kit, but seems "flatter" - I don't get as much bass. Is there something I should change in the "EQ" settings on my iPod, or... suggestions? I read most, if not all, of this thread to attempt to answer my questions before posting.

"flat" sound
I don't know about any of the head units except H/K, but if you have H/K, maybe the head unit reset itself to the base equalizer setting when you had it unplugged, which might have been called MINI H/K or something. I didn't like it at all and thought it sounded really flat. Try the other equalizer presets. One or two of them are really really great, while the rest are really dull.

I do, indeed, have the H/K stereo.
As long as it's "normal" I'm OK with it - it takes ten seconds to turn to "CD6" then back to "CD1" and doesn't interrupt my jams. Love love love the Dice iPod integration!!!

This thread seems like it's in need of a bit of levity...
I had to replace my battery over the holiday weekend (nothing to do with the DICE, just a few different things combining to overwhelm it). After doing this real quick in the parking lot so I could take the old battery in and get the core charge back (woot... $9) I completely forgot that this would reset the DICE.
The wife and I get in the car to drive home and the DICE takes over the nav screen and the radio... It's *** err *** or something to that effect on the radio and version numbers and off the hook messages on the nav screen.

As soon as I remember that the dice could/would do this it took half a second to fix (cd 6 -> track 99), but WOW that was a bit of a shocker. I thought something had been really fried by the battery dying.
Message to all, know your dice and anything else you put in your MINI.

Grump.
Ordered my -trunk- mount DICE last week, arrived last night. Figured it should take about 90 seconds to plug it in, and have ipod tunes on the way to the work xmas party. (then clean it all up later)
Alas, I didn't get the trunk mount harness....I got the radio attached harness.
Just sent an email to Tom....I'm sure he'll rectify the situation, but man I'm bummed.

Went ahead and tore the dash apart, got the DICE connected to the radio.
A few comments: Over all, the DICE seems to work well. Onscreen text and browsing look to be useless for me, though. When I DO get text (I don't if I just turn the radio on. I have to turn the radio on, cycle through the mode button a few times, THEN I might get text) the text is often stuck on the first page. On rare occassions (like when I /first/ hook the unit up) it will scroll the entire display.
Also, can't find a way to rate songs. When I "skip" a song with the track forward on the radio or the MFSW, it doesn't register a "skip" in the song's metadata. (I use ratings and skips to cull through the stuff I don't want to keep around..)
So it looks like I'll have to try one of the modes that lets me use the ipod interface instead. :(
Oh well.

In other words, if you have a nano 3g or a new classic:
You cannot use the ipod controls, you can only use the DICE controls.

Got this to work. Lock switch was on!

I have the equalizer preset on my H/K unit set to electronic or electric (can't remember). Sounds better + allows me to hear it more loudly (if you like that kind of thing). Another thing you can do is play with the settings in iTunes. Righ click on your album, go to "Get info", go to "options", and adjust the sound setting/presets to whetever you want it to be. You can even amplify the songs so they play louder without you having to turn your stereo **** up...make sense? Enjoy
Thanks for the suggestions, this turned out to be exactly what I needed!!!
Sorry if this was addressed elsewhere, but I looked through all 36 pages and tried everything suggested--unplugging, disconnecting the battery.
The problem I'm having is that my ipod (5G video) reverts to repeat single song after I shut the car off and restart it. It doesn't happen everytime and sometimes it's after I leave it attached overnight; sometimes it's after just 30 minutes.
Also, I cannot control the ipod w/ it attached. I just get the "OK to detach" message.
This is a new DICE w/ the blue connector and I have '08 MCSCa w/ H/K and MFSW.
Is this normal?

I'm interested in what you find. Although plugging/unplugging it defeats the purpose for me. I wanted something simple that I did not need to fuss with.
Anyone know if the OEM ipod adapter does the same thing?

So, I installed my DICE about 2 years ago when i got my 10/03 MCS. From the get go the sound quality was horrible, it was very left sided and almost no bass. I dealt with it.
About 2 months ago it stopped working altogether. My radio would not switch to the CD-1/2/3 etc. stage.

I disconnected my ipod and turned "random play" off, reconnected my ipod and it's not reverting to single song repeat when I stop and start the car. Not sure if that did it, but it's been okay for several start/stop cycles. I still can't control the ipod directly and the display still shows "ok to disconnect," but the major issue for me has been solved (so far).
Good day Tom
My Dice is waiting for me at home as i write this .I will be using the cd changer hookup from the rear .I have been going thru this thread and install seems simple .Your followup to all these questions are great . My question is why so many issues ?

The important fact is that help is here if needed, most questions are answered within 1 or 2 posts.
That is a good point .Was able to put mine in aprox 20 mins because i did alot of reading here.Well mine is working fine so let it be said .I was also suprised at how much better the sound is now .Thanks for a fine product and
support.
support.
Just finished the install of my new Dice Silverline on my 7/05 build-date MCS, and I'm not getting text display, though the track, album, artist, etc do all display on the iPod screen. iPod is a gen 4 nano, FW version 1.0.3. Dip switches are in the factory default positions. I've already tried the CDC6 T1 > T99 > T1 thing mentioned elsewhere in this thread with no sucess. The iPod has not been plugged in to the car overnight at all, since I just finished the install.
Any suggestions?
