Navigation & Audio [eas] Official DICE iPod integration kit Q/A thread
Never mind, I just fiddled with it until it worked. Ended up doing the CDC6 T1 - T99 change, then back to CDC1. When I got back to CDC6, it had defaulted back to T1, so I changed it to T2 then immediately back to T1. On return to CDC1, text popped up.
I did notice that the equalization seems to have changed from when I had it plugged in via AUX... Quality all around it better for sure, but the lows now seem over-boosted, while the mids are rather quiet. Does the Dice apply some sort of equalization to the signal that might cause this? I toned the bass down to acceptable levels on the HU, but I can't boost the mids so I loose a bit of mid-range detail at highway speeds.

My DICE is still acting up. It will revert to single song repeat whenever I restart the car, even if it is just a couple of minutes. I tried my previous gen 4G nano and got the same result. What I thought solved the problem before was not it. I reinstalled everything to make sure it reinitialized and that did not work either. Any clues from anyone else? Is it because I like to use random?
It is a bit one-sided. I will say that the Dice has been great for me so far. I decided recently to do a factory restore on my iPod (classic 80gb) and it's been getting along better with the Dice since then. That said, it does still set itself to repeat if I leave it plugged in overnight or while I'm at work.
I had the same problem and it made me crazy (could not find a cause and it was random). I found that using random play prompted this and since I have not been using it, no repeat problems.

For those of you that have purchased SILVERLINE kits before 12/2008, we have already started shipping the USB-compliant cables to support current model iPods/iPhones/touch models.
DICE iPod Dock Connector Cable w/ USB Charging
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...roducts_id=232
For those that have purchased Dec 08+, there is no need for for the new cable as we have already been incorporating these into the kits.
These allow pre-11/08 SILVERLINE units with full charging capabilities on the current iPod models, including touch and iPhone.

Maybe I'm a little confused about the DICE kit. The EAS website specifies that it works with iPhone and not iPhone 3G, yet, it specifies that it will charge iPhone 3G. Anyone have any experience with a DICE kit and an iPhone 3G? What works, and what doesn't? Does the MFSW control with with the iPhone 3G or is it just the older iPhone?

Actually I added an adapter that does allow the phone to charge (and everything else including MFSW controls still works) but the adapter is kind of big so the new cable might be a less obtrusive option.
Thanks Tom, Just ordered the USB cable. Just to update my earlier post requesting help with my DICE Silverline a few months ago, This was the problem with charging, non USB compliant cable. Still have the problem with the DICE not sending display info to the head unit after awhile. It works after the prescribed reset method you sent for a few days then nothing. It plays and functions fine otherwise. Any more ideas? Thanks!

You're referring to RDS info, which is different from CD text.
Some MINIs are a bit temperamental during the initialization process. Perform the following steps:
1. Disconnect iPod from cable
2. Remove battery cables, negative first
3. Touch battery cable terminals together (away from battery) for +5 seconds, a small spark is normal as this is stored power draining from the system.
4. Allow cables to remain disconnected for about 5-7 minutes
5. Reconnect battery cables onto battery, negative last.
6. Reboot iPod by pressing on MENU and CENTER buttons for +5 seconds and then reconnecting to the DICE cable after the reboot process is completed
Let me know if these steps correct the problem

Nope, we always take it out of the car. This is a continuance of an earlier conversation we had regarding the display problem. I went through the steps you recommended a few times, but no lasting display. It's there then it's not. I'm puzzled.
Is the iPod powered on before plugging into the DICE connector?
Does anyone know where I can get an iPod extension cable? The cable that came with the Dice unit is bit too short. I keep the iPod in my glove compartment and there just isn't enough cable to pull the iPod out and use the click wheel to make a selection. The cable would have to be M -> F 30 pin iPod to 30 pin iPod. Or a longer cable from the Dice unit to the iPod to replace the cable that came with the Dice unit would do it.
I just got my DICE (Radio interface version), and I want to try to install it this weekend. Did anyone ever find any step by step instructions WITH PHOTOS? I have the H/K stereo with single CD player only. I just got my car a few weeks ago and have not attemtped to remove anything yet. I've seen some instructions for non H/K and for cars with NAV, but I can't find anything for the H/K version I've got. Anyone know of anything for that?

...as did I.
Where are you guys putting the DICE box, exactly? I have the regular, not the HD, BTW. This is for a head unit mount in a cabrio. I was kinda wondering whether I could mount it behind the glove box, with the DICE ports accessible through a cut-out in the back of the glove box. No idea how much room there is for that.
So where exactly do you keep your DICE?

1. I disconnected both battery cables first, then I opened my glovebox to get access to the right downtube screws.
2. I pulled the knee bolster down under the steering wheel and out to get access to left downtube screws.
3. I then loosened each downtube by pulling out the two screws holding them into the side of radio area.
4. Then they just sort of wiggled free enough for me to access 4 screws surrounding the radio (h/k radio) (NOTE: I did not have to take the downtubes out, just loosened them). I took out those 4 screws, and the radio pulled right out.
5. I put a couple of rags over my shifter handle and my climate control panel so as to not scratch them as the radio has some sharp edges.
6 . I then took the plug lead out of the back of the radio (it took a few minutes for me to figure out how the release worked, but I got it).
7. I then plugged the proper end of the dice harness plug (it is the one that has the same retainer clip as the one you pulled off the radio) into the back of the radio.
8. I took the other end of the dice harness and plugged it into the plug I had removed from the back of my radio (by the way, for a while I did not know what HU or head unit was in this forum as it has been 20 years since I have worked on any car audio and I don't remember them being called that 20 years ago. I just call it a radio, but now I know what it is)
9. There is another much smaller plug coming off the DICE harness which you then plug into the side of the DICE unit. (it is marked well).
10. I then plugged in the IPOD cable (supplied by DICE) into the Dice unit where marked.
11. It took a little while to stuff all the wires back behind the radio in such a manner that the radio could slide back in freely, but I got them in and slid the radio back. Had to use a little pressure to get it the final 1/4 inch or so, but no too much.
12. I then hooked my battery back up and plugged my IPOD in and it seemed to be working.
13. I put it all back together.
14. I velcroed the DICE unit to a flat spot of plastic on the center console near the firewall as someone else had suggested and it seems to be a good place which is not visible from the interior without putting your head down near the floor, but easy to get to if need be. I used wire ties to pull the extra IPOD cable up and secured it (not too tight) up to the vent tube up by the glovebox (the one that air conditions the glovebox.
15. I have not decided where to put my IPOD, but I like the glovebox idea. I'm not sure if I should drill a hole in the glovebox, or just try to feed the cable in between the bottom corner of the glove box door and the dash. It seems to work ok, but I don't know if it will wear out the cable or cause any damage long term to my glovebox hinges, etc. (anyone know?) Right now I am awaiting arrival of a glovebox organizer I ordered, so I probably won't decide on a permanent IPOD location until that arrives.
I was very careful and took my time. I followed some instructions that were not great and so I actually took a couple extra and unecessary steps (which I have not included in the above description) which added time that was not necessary. Even so, the whole thing took me about 75 minutes to do. It was really quite easy as many have said before, but until I actually did it it sounded a little complicated.
Now I have to figure out how this thing works!
Well, so much for my easy installation of the DICE. It does not work right at all. When I first hooked it up it seemed like it was working okay. I did not have time to play with it, but I saw a list of artists and I was able to scroll through songs in a couple of albums.
I left for about an hour, went back to the car and started it up and nothing has worked right ever since. My volume controls work (MFSW and HU), but even though I see the track 1, track 2, etc., I can only play one song, whichever one is manually set to play on my IPOD. I get no digital readout of anything except the track number. I can hold the up or down arrow buttons on my steering wheel, and they will fast forward or backward, but once the song gets to the end it just starts all over again. I cannot get to any other song unless I advance it manually on the IPOD. Aargh! I want to scream!
I spent most of my Saturday on this and it just doesn't work. I did the thing Tom suggested with pulling the battery cables and re booting the IPOD, etc. (I followed his instructions to the tee) and no change. I can change the track number readout and the CD number readout but the same song just keeps playing (a few times nothing played at all by the way). I pulled the plugs into the DICE and made sure they went back in tight. Still nothing.
I have an H/K head unit in an 08 cabrio. Anything special this particular model needs done to make this work?
I tried the whole thing with "track 99" and that didn't do anything. I did once hit the 6 button on the HU and it said "software ver", and then it said "IPOD". with some numbers after it. I never got a readout that said "DICE" on anything except on my actual IPOD it told me the DICE was connected. I also noticed that when I hit the #2 button on the head unit is would readout "Volume 68", whatever that means.
When I got done installing this I was glad I did it myself. Now I'm kinda ticked off!!
Please help me. Anyone?

I have an 08 Cabrio and one guy I know says I need to take it to the dealer to have the DICE programmed into my HU. That makes no sense to me as I have not seen one person mention that on this thread. He says the 08 Cabrio is a "strange bird" because it was not updated like the R56 models. It sounds crazy, but now I'm starting to wonder if that is the case. Let me know what to do.
PLEASE HELP ME
Tom: It's gotta be me, but I can't get this darn thing to work. I've now spent the better part of two days on this and I can't get it to do anything. Please see my prior post for what it was doing yesterday. I'm pulling my hair out trying to get this to work. It won't play anything now. My Ipod does indicated it's hooked up to the DICE, but nothing else happens.
