Navigation & Audio [eas] Official DICE iPod integration kit Q/A thread
I wonder if this would sorta bypass this from happening with the newer ipods:

You can always revert back to Simple UI mode by sweeting all the DIP switches in the DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN positions, but lose all text display and DICE specific features when doing so.
I finished my install of a Silverline in my '03 R50 a couple of days ago. The unit works great! As has been stated over and over again. If you encounter any issues reboot your iPod! I've also connected my Sirius unit through the aux. input. It definitely gives better performance that the direct FM unit I was previously using. However I am encountering some electronic interference (aux input only) and will need to install a filter.
HD Dice Install on '05 MCS
Where do you guys put the HD dice unit? There is no room for it fit behind the Head unit. Right now i just have it in the glove box but would like to hide it to prevent someone from stealing it.
Would like to know how others have install their units.
Thanks!

Mine is next to the steering wheel. The cover below the steering wheel pops off at the top and hinges at the bottom. Put your fingers in between the lower steering wheel cover and the panel, and pull the panel toward you really, really hard. It has good metal clasps, so you won't break it. I put the dice unit in there, then ran the iPod cable over the top of the HU to the glove compartment. The cable comes out of the slot in the front of the glove box, on the left. There is plenty of cable for the driver to comfortably hold the iPod, which I never do anyway. My Dice is still not secured in there. I need to get some velcro or something for it to attach to that panel with. There is a ton of room in there.
Thanks Tom,
I still have to check on the switch positions, but I found the receipt on the EAS site dated March 18 2008. For some reason I had it in my head the warranty was only 60 or 90 days. I see it's a full year so thanks. I'm pulling the console apart to install the USB enabled cable today and will check the switches and do the reset procedure again. Will let you know.
Update... Installed new USB enabled cable, works great! Can now use the Silverline to charge my Iphone 3G. Switch positions were in Up Up Up Up settings. Relocated the Silverline lower in the console near the plastic door/grille for a slightly cooler location. Reconnected all connections then initialized per instructions, once again have Ipod text on the HU once more, yay. We're one month out from warranty expiration, I hope this fix holds but you know Murphy (and his laws!)

I'm very pleased!
Thanks for all of your help.
Awesome - glad your MINI is up and running. That one had our heads spinning for some time.

Ran into a a problem tonight. I lost all audio on the iPod and the unit would not switch between Aux (my Sirius) and Ipod. Eventually by reading the manual I disconnected the Dice from the harness for 50 sec. and normal operation returned. So it was easily fixed, but not sure why it occurred in the first place?
Tom, Installed DICE Silverline in wife's MINI last night, when reconnected Batt. H/U display showed disable. Checked all harness connections (each terminal, seems okay) did "battery reset", same result with or without DICE unit connected to DICE harness. Removed DICE harness plugged H/U back to OR plug radio works normal again. ??? Am out of ideas. THANKS

Dice steps
Removed batt. cables, removed radio, attached dice harness to H/U and OEM harness, with DICE control unit attached, reattached Batt. cables turned on key and radio, display showed disabled and made "clicking" sound every few seconds through speakers. When it didn't work the first time I removed and installed everthing a few more times, removed batt. cables and touched them together, checked continuity of each terminal from OEM harness side to radio side of DICE harness attached to H/U. Tried with just harness and no DICE control, same problem. Sorta ran out of ideas? Thanks for such a quick response! Gary
That should have worked. I suggest you examine pins on the connector and back of the headunit, and make sure that none are bent or damaged.
What year is your MINI? Early headunits ('02-'03) used an unlock code instead of iBus for security.

2005 mini
'05 MINI Cooper S late '04 production. Checked pins on head unit all are okay, as well as pins on DICE harness and as close as possible with out full disassembly the spade connecters in the harness. Funny thing is everything checks okay, can't find any flaw in wire or connector but won't work with DICE harness installed. Obviously something is amiss I just can't seem to find it? Gary
YEP, The best determination is faulty harness. It seems wrong that could be the problem. I think I tried every think to make sure the harness is the problem. If you could tell me which wire is the ibus I will check it. I checked to make sure none where broken, but didn't check to see if any are shorted. The product seems to be a very well assembeled piece! By the way I REALLY do Thank you for all of your help! I hate to send things back if not necassary. If needed though I can get with you guys during work hours and set-up a return. THANKS Gary

iPod Integration
Hi,
New member, new owner of an '05 Mini Convertible. My Mini was produced in 08/2004. Not sure what release that makes it (R??). I have what I guess is the stock radio. It has a single CD player.
Is there an iPod integration kit that will work with my stock radio?
If so is it really easy to install? I mean reallly easy. I am not mechanically adept. My idea of a well stocked tool box is having a flat head AND a phillips head screw driver. If I can't fix it with duct tape or a hammer I'm lost. And if the job requires finesse and a gentle hand, I am not your man. I have all the finesse of a bull elephant hopped up on too much Starbucks.
So is the install easy enough that I can probably do it without breaking too many things or setting fire to my house?
Any info greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Well is seems my temporary problem is getting a little more frequent. What seems to be happening is all will be normal. If I shut the car down for a short period of time and start back up I will loose communication with the dice unit. As in all I will get is a muted static from both the ipod input and the aux. If I disconnect the wiring harness for a min or so operation has thus far returned to normal.
Send me a quick email with your full name so we can make arrangments for an exchange.
