my boyfriend bought me this dice ipod interface, the ipod cable has been crushed (maybe someone stepped on it, because i usually leave it hanging outside the glovebox for faster access). i'm not sure which cable to buy?
http://www.performancemp3.com/diceipodcables/

I'm just not sure if both cables will fit with my interface? Since I'm not sure if theres a specific Dice model, but I do have a 3gs and a 1st gen itouch

I have this exact product installed in my '06 MCS, which has the H/K premium sound system and an aux jack already installed. It works fine with this configuration .

http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...oducts_id=1639

It works (mostly) great. It does exactly what it says, has great audio quality, and i've used it with iPhone 2g, 3g, and 4g and they all work fine.

When I say "mostly", i mean that there are a few small bugs:

1. Occasionally it doesn't sync right with the phone, requireing me to unplug/plug it back in or turn it on/off to resync before it starts playing music again
2. The song/artist scrolling text overrides the ability to view and edit the sound properties (bass/balance/etc) - so make sure you have those set to your liking before installing the unit.

Satisfied Customer with Basic Questions

First, let me say the experience with the DICE MediaBridge in my 2006 MCSC has been fantastic. The install was a breeze and I'm really enjoying having the convenience of in-car Bluetooth and iPod control for a reasonable cost. My only real complaint so far has been regarding the instructions, which were a bit confusing until I had a little experience under my belt. I finally understand the device conceptually now so the instructions make more sense too!

Here are my only 2 questions, neither of which are critical issues, but would be nice to know:

1) Why doesn't the music stop when initiating a (Bluetooth) call while my iPhone is hooked up and in iPod mode (and obviously with music playing)? (On a related note, what's the best way to stop the music on the car's controls since the iPod app on the iPhone is locked during iPod mode? I have to resort to unplugging the iPod cable now.)

2) Why doesn't the music automatically restart when the car is started when using Bluetooth mode to play music? It does restart when using iPod mode when starting the car.

Finally, thanks to Tom for the quick turnaround on a question during the purchasing decision regarding trunk vs. radio interface. (I went radio interface for ease of install.) He's the bomb!

Thanks in advance for your responses (and yes I've searched for these answers!)

Patrick

Well, I was seriously considering getting the Dice interface, but after reading this thread I am unsure. I currently have the factory h/k stereo, with factory hands free bluetooth kit and the 6-disc cd changer. What really seems like the deal breaker for me is that someone recently posted that the unit locks you out from being able to adjust audio preferences????! If that's the case, then no thanks.

Can someone recommend another alternative that will give me full use of the radio and steering wheel controls while retaining use of the factory Bluetooth kit? I would like on screen text display, but since I will be using this with my iPhone and wont be keeping it in my glovebox that's not a deal breaker.

Thanks!

If you don't mind my asking, why is this such a big deal? The EQ on the radio head is pretty useless, you have way more control with the ones on your iPod/iPhone anyway, which you can still use with this (even though the manual says not to for 'best sound quality'). I guess the one sticking point could be that you can't use your speed volume control, but it just resets it to factory default (3 I think) which works alright.

I run mine with a custom EQ on my iPod and it works great.

And for what it's worth, it does lock you out of the audio prefs on the radio.

Also, sorry for the double post, but I have a question. I installed my Dice Silverline Duo about a week ago, and have loved it. Today, I drove home from work listening to one of my favorite podcasts - everything was great.

However, I went out to my car in the garage a few minutes ago to clear the CEL I had from getting bad gas earlier, and I noticed the radio was playing which was strange as it should still have been the iPod playing, seeing as I never changed anything. My Dice unit now appears to not work at all - it doesn't charge my iPod, and doesn't show up under my input options for my radio anymore either. For what it's worth, the battery on my iPod was way low too, about 15% which is odd, because it just charges from the Dice unit and should have been at 100% since I haven't taken it out of my car in about three days.

I assume the SOP in this kind of situation is to unplug the dice unit, let it sit for a bit, and plug it back in? Kind of the only thing I can really think of, as the entire system was untouched so I'm not sure what caused the fault.

EDIT: Unplugging the battery, leaving it for 20min, and plugging it back fixed whatever had gone wrong with the Dice unit. It now works perfectly again.

Tom,

I'm looking to purchase a Dice Silverline Pro for my 2003 MCS. I've already gone through many pages on this thread and have yet to see a couple things:
1. Will the text display on the 2003 head unit?
2. Can you have something plugged into the AUX input ont the Dice the same time the iPod interace is powered on? The reason I ask is it would be nice to run my XM through the AUX and have the iPod plugged into it's adapter at the same time. Then I would just simply turn on the device I'm in the mood to listen too.

Any help or suggestions anyone may have would be great. Thanks in advance.

I know the 2003 head unit can do RDS text from radio stations, but I don't think it can handle id3 tags within MP3s (you can burn a cd and see). I think that's how DICE feeds text to the head unit, so you might be out of luck there. I can't remember what the cut-off is for text on the head unit, but I do remember that my 2003 MCS wouldn't display them with the ole iceLink Plus and I don't even bother with it on my 2005. The DICE wants to take over the Navigation screen and the iPod is "mounted" in the driver's side cup holder, so I can see what's playing and still have a functional nav.

Figured I probably wouldn't get an answer here really quick as there are sooo many pages but...

I got the Silverline in the mail. It was supposed to be a radio interface but I went to install and I cannot figure out a single way it could install. The adapter that came with it was large and hard round plug pegs and the radio has flat pegs. Do I have the correct one? How do I install this? Is there a step by step install guide for the MINI?

The device should have come with complete instructions. If it did not you may need to contact the factory.

Sorry to bump an old thread.

Are the new models compatible with 2002 Mini Cooper? I have read other ipod kits will not work with a 2002 but I am struggling to find an answer about this new kit.

Thanks in advance!

Phil,

I have a 2002 Cooper and installed the Dice less than 2 years ago. There are issues with many of the ipod kits if yours is an early build like mine but the Dice works well overall. It will not, however, show track or song titles on the head unit. If that doesn't bother you then, IMHO, that's the way to go.

Great thanks so much! Quick reply too!

Thanks again,

I just installed my Dice Duo last night. Love the unit and was surprised to see that the song titles and artist info did come up on the nav even though my car is an 04 MCS. I thought that only worked for 05 & up. Either way, nice unit and very easy install. Now if I can just get more volume out of this HK stereo!!

Bluetooth wont pair with mediabridge

I have a 2006 S with the HK audio system. I have installed the Dice Mediabridge 1500 with Bluetooth. After installing it, the Bluetooth was working fine except the microphone was not working. I also noticed that it did not ask me for as code when pairing. So I decided to start over and now I cannot get it to discover no matter what I try. I have an iPhone 4S and the ipod part works fine when connected to the USB. Firmware is also the most current.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Have you paired it via Bluetooth?

As I stated, when I first hooked it up, the radio display showed "discoverable" and it was paired, both phone and audio, however the microphone was not working. On my iPhone I clicked on "forget this device" to start over. Now when I press the mode button on the radio, it goes to BT, but has never again displayed discoverable. When it paired yesterday it did not ask me for a code, which is why I think the mike was not working

Assuming you have easy access to the box, you can unplug the integration cable from the back and wait a minute or 2 before plugging it back in. Whenever I have weirdness going on this fixes it. (The box always has power going to it so turning off the car doesn't do the trick.)

Pairing problem resolved

Actually I figured it out and there wasn't anything wrong except a little vague in the instructions. After selecting BT mode, if you hit the next (track) button within 5 secs, the disc buttons are on audio options. If you wait longer than 5 seconds, then press one of the disc buttons, you will get the bluetooth options. Pressing disc 1 brought me to the discoverable display and it paired just fine.

My microphone still doesn't work but that is an issue for another day...

Thought this might help

I am having an issue with my iPod/radio randomly switching to "detached". It will switch over and then start working again a few seconds later. Also today, the music just stopped. Controls still worked, so I advanced tracks but nada. Uplugged and reconnected and it worked. Any ideas?

So installed my new Silverline Duo (Audiovox/DICE) and SCC1 Sirius tuner... the DICE works fine with the iphone but it doesn't recognize the Sirius tuner, or at least I think that is the issue.

When I use the head unit to select the Sirius channel 184 so I can activate the tuner with Sirius it wont change channels. Also, I am not hearing the Sirius preview information.

I have tried updating the firmware (my unit is 5629) using the update software, but it says it says no update needed because mine is current...

I have contacted customer service at Audiovox and no one seems to know what to do... Bit frustrated now that I have paid for a Sirius subscription but can't use it in the car!
