Navigation & Audio [eas] Official DICE iPod integration kit Q/A thread
Hey guys
im pretty sure this has been mentioned before (and yes i have read about a hour from this thread) but i still have some questions.
im looking into buying a dice kit for my girlfriend.
she has a 2006 mini cooper non-s w/ oem navigation
1.) is the dice kit compatible with oem navigation? It states it isnt compatible in small print on the bottom of the dice products web page. I copied and pasted here
Compatible for Boost & WAVE radio systems. Installation is simple for the DIY type and should take no longer than 20-30 minutes. MINIs produced prior to 3/2005 will not have text display. Not compatible for MINIs with Navigation.
2.) if it IS compatible, which one should i buy? radio or trunk?
and can the vendor please PM me...i have a specific question for you. Thanks
-Eric

No, DICE won't work with the OEM Nav system. You should buy the factory iPod adapter, which does work with the Nav system. It's not quite as slick but it works! (And is probably more reliable, based on my DICE install. I have to turn it off and on sometimes to unconfuse it.)
Here are links to buy the factory adapter -- two vendors, same product, buy from whoever you like

And, here are some tips I wrote up for the install -- the factory install isn't really much different from the DICE install, except for routing the iPod cable into the glove box.

I still have a couple questions if you dont mind me asking...
1. you have a dice kit yourself on your oem navi? how is that working for you? i have gotten an email response from eas stating i will have to shut off txt support on my dice or something..
2. these two links you have shown me...are they the same products? bc there is a $40 difference.
3. lastly...the kit you have shown me will have txt support on her head unit and she will be able to change her music from the steering wheel controls right?

i still have some few questions if you dont mind...
1. what do you mean by not as slick as the dice?
2. why is there a $40 price difference in between the two products? (i will obviously go for the cheaper one if there exactly the same product...)
3. all steering wheel controls and txt display will work with tthis product right?
Just bought the Dice for my '02MC. I got the trunk interface kit. Where the cables are for the OEM CD Changer, the 6-pin harness is there to match up with the 6 pin harness on the DICE, but the 3 pin adapter are bare wires.
The Dice unit has a grey, black, and yellow wire. The 3 loose wires in my car are red, brown, and yellow/white. Any idea how these match up so I can crimp them together?? Thanks!

Nevermind. I realized that my dad's '06 MCS, which happened to be parked right next to mine, probably had the same wiring. Turns out it did, problem solved. In case anyone else ever has this problem,
Black - brown

Dice Question
I have a 2004 MCS with H/K stereo. I have been researching my options with iPhone integration and I have a couple of questions. I have researched and noticed that text display is compatible with post 04/05 minis. I receive text display on my H/K unit now with radio stations, so I am curious if there is a product that will support text display in my 2004 r53. Also related....Will the HD Dice work with my mini. Once again I see it says Mini's with CD&Cassette head units will not work, but will it work on an 2004 H/K head unit.
I apologize if you must repeat yourself, but I am wanting this cleared up.
Thanks

Hi guys,
I've read almost all of the posts on this thread thoroughly but still have questions.
I'm also tempted to buy the ipod/iphone integration kit from Dice for my 2006 Cooper S.
Let me summarise what I have in my car and see if you can help:
First of all my Cooper S does have the Harman Kardon audio system + Boost MP3-CD Radio headunit and factory sat-nav setup but no CD changer in the trunk (I'm living in Turkey so Euro-spec car). So everything in except the crucial CD changer input...
As for aftermarket parts, I have the Parrot CK3000 Evo bluetooth handsfree kit coupled with the Audicom steering wheel interface. So I can use the sw mounted buttons to make/receive a call, increase the volume etc.
I also have a video interface for my factory sat-nav with two inputs. One of them is for rearview cam and the other one is empty at the moment. The factory aux kit is also installed in the glovebox.
The question is: Can we make use of this Dice interface considering all those hardware? I know that the basic kit is not supported w/o the CD changer input. :(
I would like to connect my iPhone 3GS (OS 3.1.2) using the Dice kit and still make use of the Bluetooth handsfree kit as well as nav interface for additional screen inputs. So the ipod/iphone inputs shall never be seen on my sat-nav screen if possible.
If iPhone 3GS operation is not possible, will it work with ipod 5th gen video? (No nav screen interferance again...)
Comments?

Just finished installation of my DICE into my 06 MCS. I have the stock radio, no NAV, no HK. I used the boot kit because I may want to install an XM radio kit also. I already have a portable XM, that I use in my office and in my truck, and just might want to install a kit into the Cooper.
I've had the unit in the car since Monday, with the cables just on the backseat, to make sure it was working and I could figure out how to use the system. Operating instructions are a little vague. Plus I had a lot of travelling to do, and no real time to do the final install.
Permanent install was pretty easy, even in 20degree weather
I have the DICE unit under the arm rest, and keep the IPOD in the armrest. Routed the wiring under the backseat. I have a 4g IPOD NANO. I can see my playlists on the HU, artists and song titles. Works slick.

location question and iPhone/iPod touch use with "SMART" mode
hey guys, it looks like I want to have a DICE installed behind the radio with the iPod cable running right underneath the HU and AC console...basically have my iPod in the opening where the cigarette lighter sits, instead of having the cable routed to the glove box.
Just wondering if any of you have a DICE installation (radio unit) that has this configuration?
Preferably, I don't want any holes drilled
Also, any one using a DICE with an iPhone or iPod touch in SMART mode?

Hi,
I purchased a non-silverline DICE kit back in 2006 for my MCS, and it worked great with my iPod and 2G iPhone. I recently upgraded to an iPhone 3GS, and I'd like to confirm that the replacement cable for USB charging will work with my older DICE unit. Thanks!

this tut http://www.minicarparts.net/Instruct...structions.cfm helps you removing everything and tells you where all the screws are etc, it's not for the dice but almost the same. found here https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...great-diy.html

New Dice not working
I have had a Dice along with and XM Direct and Blitzsafe interface for a couple of years. Overall it has worked well for a solution to get both Ipod and XM. These are in a 06 MC with HK.
Recently the Dice unit went belly up (loss of text, occasionally cuts off, forgets where it's at in playlists, etc.). I bought a replacement Dice and it is the new Silverline unit. Now a lot of things don't work.
The mode button no longer seems to work. It just always comes back to the Ipod instead of rotating through the different sources. As a result, I have no access to the XM Direct system. It also does not seem to let me do anything other than step through the entire music library from the radio or steering wheel controls. I have not been able to get in a mode to select playlists, for example.
I did verify that I am in the correct mode by going to disc 5 and track 01. I also went to disc 6 and track 01 to set the text mode. The radio does show text display.
Is the Silverline not compatible with the Blitzsafe? If not, is there a solution to keep my XM Direct? I definitely do not want to give up the XM.

Ok so I bought and installed the DICE kit for our 06 MCS, non harmon-kardon, w/OE Nav.
Here are the problems.
1. The first problem was the ipod took over the nav screen and showed the radio text. Placed it on CD 6 and Track 99 problem solved no more text.
2. I now have no text at all.
3. How f**ck do you work this f**cking thing.
I just want to see what Artist, Album, or Playlist Im opening. Ive operated commercial airliners easier than this thing.

Check your documentation. CD 6 Track 99 means no text output, but there should be another option that only outputs to the radio. The other option (the one I use) is to mount the iPod in a location where its screen is visible. Of course, I do this because my 05 will not show ID3 tags, but your 06 should be able to handle it.
has anyone used the G2 cradle from Dice, and if so where did you mount it? I have looked all over, but no luck.
I bought a DEH-P710BT to give me full integration of my ipod touch (including steering wheel controls) and bluetooth for my phone. My old car (Acura TL) spoiled the crap out of me with all its wonderful technology.
So I will have a cord coming out of the dash somewhere, but I just want to sit the ipod (soon to be iphone 3gs) in a dock and not have to go routing for a cord to plug into every time I get in the car...
If you have a better suggestion, please shoot!

I had the same problem....The book is for the boot installation which was not what I bought...Broken link so I called EAS, they said call Dice...After about 45 minutes on hold they told me that there isn't a different book for the different installation..."it should be self explanatory"....Not sure I buy that but I figured it out on my own anyway. I find it hard to believe that they send you a book for the boot installation and they don't at least tell you that there is no other book for the dash installation.
Just started reading this thread ... LOL, I read the 1st page and it everything was peaches and I jumped to the last page and people are having all kinds of trouble with theirs, Tom no longer responds, etc! Should I bother with DICE??
I had HD Radio in my Nissan and even though I don't listen to much radio, I didn't realize how much I would miss it until I bought my MINI ('07 MCSC). So, I was thinking I'd get the HD Dice and iPOD connector. Assuming I still go for it after reading more of this thread, I have one main question (in two parts):
a) Has anyone run the iPod connector into the armrest storage location? My iPod fits perfectly in there and is easily accessible since the armrest cover always slides back as I shift.
b) If it is possible to run the connector into the armrest, do I need to go with the trunk-mount option so that I have enough cable length, or does the radio-mount option also have a decent (6+ ft) length of cable?

It's nice to have the IPOD in the armrest, and my DICE has worked 99% of the time flawlessly. If I have problems, it's usually because I'm trying to change tracks or playlists, and I get impatient, push more buttons and it locks up. In the 6 months I've been using it, I only had to do the battery disconnect and reset once. A basic hard boot
