I keep on waving, but feel like a creeper because most often its a girl driving the mini and not an enthusiast (Female or not).

So Im driving in my MINI out in Farmington Hills Michigan and see a beautiful R50, yellow with black side stripe and 8 ball on the side.

Im making the left on 13 mile road and shes making the right on the opposite side of the intersection.

As im rolling through the intersection I toss out my trademark piece sign. I complete the turn and in my rear view mirror, Im getting the "hang loose" sign.

I toss up the follow with a heavy metal "devil horns" sign. By now, Im on top of the place im heading into and make a hard right into the lot.

She follows me in and pulls up next to me in the lot. She asks me if I work here and I said no, im visiting someone in the building. She asks me who im visiting, I tell her, shes works in that same office.

Long story short.........Goin out drinks and a movie later and shes driving!

GOD DO I LOVE MY CAR!!!!!!!

 

Came up on a white clubman on I-75 the other day and I pulled next to them to wave and they just stared at me. I'm pretty sure I've seen it before and the last time they acknowledged. Oh wells.

 

A funny: I'm driving in the light snow today.It's nasty cold. Had a middle aged dude in a mini-van wave at me. (OK, Im just a not so old dude, but old enough) so no cute wave thing). either he wishes he were me in a MINI, he has a MINI at home, or thought I was somebody else (Nobody here has one just like like me), or he's just wishing he was driving a MINI!
I'm thinking he's a dad with a car full of 8 year olds going to a party with a scary clown!! lololol

Finally got a wave back from a pepper white MINI at the corner of Fort Hill Drive and Jefferson in Naperville. That only took 5 months.

 

A few months ago I was up in NorCal visiting family. I pulled up to a stop sign to turn left, as I checked traffic, a fellow MINI driver pulled up turning right. We both gave an approving nod and headed in out opposing directions. It was a good day.

 

I tried to wave at a British Green regular MINI with old man (like 70). He just stared at me like I was from Mars! I guess he was from Pluto...Ya gots to be in the know if you own a MINI!

 

I was waving at EVERY MINI that I saw with very little return waves. Even driving right next to a MINI...I don't even get acknowledged. It's like these people have tunnel vision and only stare at the car directly in front of them.

 

Probably a Professor of Music! lol. They're in their moment of the next event all the time. I even wave in the hall and occasionally they just walk by conducting to no ensemble!

 

I still wave, even when I drive my BMW.

 

Now that my Tink has her name across the front windshield, everyone (MINIs, other cars, pedestrians, bus drivers...) waves/giggles/smiles/points it out to their buddies. Apparently mine is a attention grabber now lol. Had a lady in a red classic wave to me and give me a thumbs up yesterday. Totally made my day!

 

i wave at all minis now, used to only wave at them if i thought they were an "enthusiast" (exhaust or lowered or stickers) , sometimes i get a wave back, sometimes i get confused stares , but i do it anyway in hopes that i will make someones day

 

Even before having the mini, I would look at minis all the time and would smile at the owners just because I would love to drive one. However, I noticed that now that I have my own, they wouldn't even look at me.

One time I got super excited because I saw one same as mine, the driver was a guy and the only difference that I noticed was that his interior wasn't black like mine. Anyway, I followed him and even went to his side to wave and give a thumbs up. Didn't even glance at me! Oh well.. I just got giddy since I saw my mini's twin.

 

My wife and I have only had our MINI for a little over a week now, and we have yet to receive a wave back from other MINI drivers we pass! We both come from the jeeping community where all you got done on the road was wave lol Oh well, we will still wave to try to keep the MINI vibe alive!

 

Don't be frustrated. Big cites equal less waves as well as rural type areas. Also people with used cars don't get the tutorial at the dealership. Know that your are doing the right thing!

 

Saw a grey R53 with a customized Michigan plate flying down I75 between I94 and I696.
Tried keeping up but got stuck in traffic. Not sure if they even noticed me, so if that's you...

exchanged waves on an access road in Atlanta, GA with a countryman... I think they were heading to Chattahoochee River... =) beautiful weather!

 

In the "GOOD OLD DAYS",everyone driving a 356 Porsche would not wave,but just FLASH the high beams.I had three of these old bathtubs between 1971-1990,and never remember not getting flashed in return.

 

The wife and I just took a weekend vacation. During which we passed about 4 other MINIs. We passed the same one twice and waved both times.. Both times the couple looked at us and looked away! We passed another on the highway and honked, unknown if he waved or not. Finally towards the end of our trip we met our MINIs twin coming the opposite direction.. Finally a wave! Made our day lol

 

not anymore. Used too. Every mini. But in the last few years, Ive given up, if someone waves, I wave back, but no one ever waves, or even looks. On the very rare occasion someone does, its a first generation. The die hards. We always used to park next to each other too. Id come out from school, and there would be 5 or 6 minis WAY out all alone in the parking lot, all lined up. Or even at the mall, come out and find a mini beside me, and the owner taking pics of the pair. Not any more. The good old days are gone.

 

I normally don't initiate a wave (always wave back though) but after reading this thread I've made more of an effort. Got a wave back to day from a HOT chick in a yellow R53. Maybe I should wave more.....lol

 

I always initiate as i don't want to be the guy who breaks culture or a tradition.

 

So Ive been back in Boise Id since last July and only have had like two other Mini's wave at me. There are a ton of Mini Coopers here.
This weekend I had to drive up to Spokane Wa. As I drove through Boise, Nampa, and up to the Idaho/Oregon border, not one fricken wave or wave back. I always wave.

All through Oregon I got waves.... When in Washington State almost everyone waved. As soon as I got back into Idaho not one fricken wave.
