Do Mini people still wave at each other??
Detroit Mini
Im sporting an 06 R50 classic red with the white top.
Honestly, I have posted it out here before, I am a MINI owner completely by accident. Anyone who knows me knows me to be a classic truck/muscle car guy. I adopted this MINI specifically to fix it and sell it. I couldn't understand why the previous owner cried when she brought the title and all her records.
It took me two days of driving it after fixing a head gasket what was going on. Simply put, this thing is the bomb! I couldn't imagine driving anything else now, and I have an extensive stable of cars including everything from Volvo's to classic Super Sport Chevy's.
You'll spot me with classic Michigan P.O.A.M plates. I would be the guy driving the HELL out of that thing!

Good on ya, Spertractor3. You get muscle with a MCS and then leave the US muscle behind in the curves! There's the fun factor! I went out at lunch hour today as we're getting snow tomorrow. Went to a subdivision under construction but roads are done. Nobody there...like NOBODY around. Screamed through the suggested 15mph round-a-bouts at 45 or so then screamed up the deserted country road. First time hitting 100. All safe and saw not one car, deer, critter, or anything. Ahhhh! It's a great day to own a MINI>I can't wait to try the Dragon.
What's sad is motoring around over lunch hour and not seeing ONE MINI :>( It's the day before snow dudes. Whazzup? I'm all around in the '05 MCS Kite Blue with black stripes and sun roofs front and rear. Matching color grill and you know... stuff.
the love of MINI
Oh, I discovered very quickly that in a straight line contest, there is a lot of stuff out there that can out muscle my Cooper, but if there is even one turn involved, I will put their jock on the clock!
Next week, after I get a new clutch in that thing, Im going to put a new Hotchkis rear sway and a helix short throw and this should do nicely to resolve that understeer issue.
Its just hard to believe all this performance with such incredible gas mileage and comfort!
Anyway, Im starting to rave now! LOL!!!! All I do now is look at that shiny black S60 in my garage and shake my head!

Snow performance
By the way, I left the Continental Extreme Contact tires on there and this thing just cuts through the snow. She throws rooster-tails off the rear hides and stop's on a dime!
our first MINI wave story
Hi guys-
Just my second post but I've gotten quite a kick out of reading this thread- I've had a couple fairly unique sports cars over the years (Alfa Romeo Duetto, Triumph TR6) and always enjoyed the little wave thing with owners of similar cars, which is one of the reasons this thread interested me. Anyway, my wife and I flew from Austin to Orlando to pick up our new (to us!) '12 R55 BRG Clubman last week- we decided to spend a couple days on the way home just getting to know and enjoy the new MINI rather than just flog it straight on back to Texas. So there we are the second morning out, on I-10 West, headed for Pensacola and a visit to the excellent Naval Aviation Museum. I'm driving in the right hand lane, cruise control set at just over 70, light traffic- my wife is playing with the audio system, very relaxing. I look in the rear view mirror and see a late model Cadillac Escalade catching up to us pretty quickly- he must be going close to 90 in the fast lane. As they pass us we can see it's a slightly older white-haired couple, looking pretty much straight ahead. When they get about 100 yards or so ahead of us, they put on their brakes fairly hard and we caught up to them quickly so we were side by side. They drove next to us for close to a minute- pulling a little bit ahead, then slightly behind- it was obvious they were checking out the MINI. They finally pulled right alongside so we were window to window (of course they were quite a bit higher up
). They were both smiling from ear to ear- they were waving at us like we were long-lost friends! When they finally pulled away they both gave us a big thumbs-up and a good-bye wave (which we happily returned!). So while it wasn't another MINI waving at us, it was a nice introductory MINI experience. In any event, you can count me in as a fellow MINI waver- I think it's a fun thing and will always do it- returned or not!

waver
I don't mind if you don't wave... better if you focus on your driving.
flasher
Shame that most MINI'ers don't partake. Alas, the car is a blast to drive, so I get all the cheap thrills I could ask for

BTW, I used to live in Hammond, back in the '60s!
I missed a wave the other day--was cresting a roller coaster hill just as a Pepper White Coupe was doing the same coming the other way. No time for either of us. Most Arkansans wave, I've found.
I had the best experience today!! The wave is alive! I was driving from Iowa to DC in my new mini and I rocking out and dancing around. Someone pulled up beside me and I felt embarrassed- then they started honking and I looked over and it was another mini! We waved like crazy, laughed and went on our way.
Do you guys feel that MINI owners are biased against some MINI models?
Driving a R59 I feel we get less recognition from the traditional MINI owners. Mean while I'm not seeing a lot of R55 owners (quite popular around here) looking at other MINIs that much. I maybe totally wrong and it may be just in my head
I'm just curious to know what you all think about MINI biases as it relates to the waving . . . ?

I got mine a few months ago, and im 17 years old
I've seen less than 5 MINI's around here, including a R53 driven by a teacher in my school and a guy i i play soccer with has a 09 Clubman
I've had 2 people wave at me, one old guy just as i got it so i thought it was weird, and a hot gall a month ago..
Anybody around 48390 here?

Patience Grasshopper! Peace comes to those who wait. Old guy? What? 50 or so? That's me! I used to have a few hot cars at a younger age, then family happens! lol! When you have a family, you'll understand. Now, my son is your age and has had an Audi A-4 and totalled it by a stupid old man, older than me. Be careful in neighborhoods that don't have intersections marked!! Advice from an "old man".

It's just weird seeing that old of people enjoying fun cars, while my grandpa is sitting at his desk writing books

And thx for the advice, i've done very stupid things in the past year of driving but they taught me to avoid doing them again, and thankfully nothing was damaged or hurt.
(I once floored it going on a left turn while it was raining and it just kept going straight
)That's awesome, I have a 03 Jet Black MCS.. Mind showing me your car? and did you plastidip the stock wheels?
Here he is. The wheels on it are for summer. I plastidipped my stock ones. I have an offset stripe on him now.
does urs have a aero package or something?
I have the aero grills.
Been motoring with Tweety for 11 years now and I still wave like a silly schoolgirl. I am occasionally guilty of not waving back but it's only because I didn't see the other MINI in time. I have caught myself waving at other MINI's while driving my pickup, too. duh.
