Do Mini people still wave at each other??
I'm a big kid now. Haha
Them washes are getting costly. Can't do the home hose thing, so go to the self serve washes. I won't go to the drive throughs. I don't trust them, nor do they do a good job. Of course one needs to wait until above 32 under the garage or one falls on his/her *** DAMHIK! ha ha!
However, I'm forced to do it. Those road salts are nasty to a car's undersides and paint. Ugh! When I'm lazy, I'll do the above ground wash and then go through a regular car wash and get the undercarriage spray to get rid of the crap...only when I'm feeling rich.
Today, just a spray off for a few bucks.

My wife and I went for a drive yesterday. Covered around 100 miles of Long Island roads so you know we are talking plenty of other cars all the time. I was waved at exactly one time. I saw easily 6 or more Minis of all sorts driven by all sorts. When I had my Miata the wave rate was closer to 90% but since I got the Mini it's closer to 5%. Sad but I think it is indicative of the splinter effect. There are too many Mini models that attract too many varied people, many of whom are not "car people".
I'll continue to wave, but if the return rate stays as low as I've been experiencing I'll probably stop. Sad~~

Yesterday I was driving my Countryman in the city and noticed a new Countryman (still had dealership logo plates) about a block behind me. The driver aggressively makes his/her way through traffic and eventually slips right behind me. I assumed the driver wanted to check out my Countryman (JCW bodykit and rims) and say "hi!" After a couple more blocks, I hop onto the freeway, with the driver on my tail. After a short while, the driver starts to cut over to the left, so I immediately roll down my window and stick out my hand and give a peace sign. That person just floors it past me with no acknowledgement. *thumbs down*

I exchanged awesome Mini affection with the drivers for a Red 2010-11 Cooper S convertible today with black wheels on Rt 517 in Tewksbury NJ today. Later on after riding behind him for about 10 miles, I pulled up next to him at a light and we saluted each other with massive smiles. The world would be a better place if this was more widespread!
This is awesome. I go to Jersey every weekend and have yet to get a wave. :/
Today, I was driving my brand new pepper white Mini and came to a stoplight. Also stopped at the light but facing me on the other side of the intersection, was a pepper white Mini with racing stripes, just like mine. I waved. Nothing. I waved again as we went thru the intersection. Nothing. Seven years ago when I first got my chili red Mini, drivers would usually wave. Now it's rare but Mini's are much more common now. Also the fact that I'm a silver haired senior and the other driver was in his 20's may have had something to do with it!
I will admit that a month or so ago I was getting of the Orient Point-New London Ferry in New London and waiting in line to get on the boat was an identical Mini to mine with a young lady at the wheel and she did wave and smile. Don't know if it was a Mini thing or just a same car thing.
When I first got my MINI 5 years ago waves all around, everyone was waving. Thats how I got started, with all the fellow MINI owners waving! Anymore, NO one waves back. I was slap right next to another MINI at a stop light a couple of days ago, not one note of recognition of a fellow MINI owner :-( I keep trying though!
I try to wave at most Mini's I see and always wave back if I see them waving at me.
Since moving back to the Boise Id area I can't throw a rock without hitting another Mini. Only negative thing is hardly anyone here will wave back at you. Feels kinda weird like Im in the twilight zone. Like you are invisible. Other people are always waving and saying hi. No Mini clubs here either. I don't think there are many people interested in doing a club. Real bummer.

It's a lot easier to get the word out now--NAM has a section for club information, not to mention Facebook, Craig's List, or what have you. Start informally so you don't scare away lots of people with meeting rules, etc. Plan events! Drives, car shows, charitable events, etc. Even combine more than one--have a drive and price of "admission" is a can or two of food for the local food bank. Stuff a dealer MINI with paper towels for the local Ronald McDonald House, if you have one in the area. Paper towels are something they always need, and it's fun. I can tell you 192 rolls will fit in an MCS, but it's not fun to drive with that many! If you have a road, park, or lake cleanup day in the area, get together a crew to help out. They'll look great if the dealer will sponsor team t-shirts with the dealer name on the back.
Take pictures of everything you do, especially charitable events, and you'll find the local newspaper will help you find more members.
I've done all of these things when I lived in Houston, and they work. If you have to, you can gear it to sports cars in general, but if you have as many MINIs in the area as you indicate, it shouldn't be hard to get at least a small group started. Good luck!
I really wish we had a dealer here. I know when the MINI's first began to appear I actually lived in Boise and the local BMW dealership was trying their best to get them added as stock. But BMW told them that they wanted MINI to have their own showroom and their own parts/service area. So the nearest several hours away.
I really don't think many people are interested here. I know there is one generic car club and everyone pretty much just stays there from what I have been told.
