Do Mini people still wave at each other??
Driving down 12th Avenue South here in Nashville, near where it turns into Granny White Pike, and coming towards me is what could be my car's relative, if that makes sense. My all-black JCW CM, and the on-coming black-with-red-top JCW CM!
He gave me a wave and a flash, and I responded with a wave. Was too stunned to hit the lights, too!
"Hello", if you're on here!

Got two waves around the University City Delmar area just now! One was a PW with hood stripes and the other was BRG (I think?). Passed three others but they failed to wave :( Oh well, I got my first waves in at least a month!
Personally, I think it's a shame and a loss for the MINI brand to simply become the 'small fwd BMW'... with all that entails.
Waving or Flashing lights?
Usually the windows are up so i just flash my lights at them. I find it easier and quicker to respond. I do a lot of cycling and usually motorcyclist wave to me on country roads and I wave back.
Cars not so much. I prefer to hit the dippers at the Minis so they see me and can reply quickly if they so desire.

…But I hope I won’t offend you… I was just thinking: the gay label, the bold lettering, the repetitive use of smilies, all seemed to be signs of someone quite young and quick to judge, with a hair of a bullish attitude hungry for an ego rub.
I never brought up the Accord thing but since you do I would have to say that MINI has a certain charisma, the “practical” Accord doesn’t have. So no I don’t expect accord drivers to wave. Most are already in a different mindset with fewer thought to the car for as long as nothing goes wrong with it. MINI buyers do tend to look for a car that is little more meaningful to their lives with an extra life style characteristic that has the potential to connect people feeling the same on the road.
But I’m not opposed to any car brand to wave at each other. Waving, blinking lights, nodding, cheerful hand, subtle one, there is about 1000s more ways to wave at someone and everyone does it with their own personality, so the label is a bit of a quick judgment. But more importantly when ever people connect with a sense of euphoria it is always great for the soul. I don’t know anybody who would not smile and feel warm inside when it happens.
So I hardly think it’s stupid. It is not a requirement and there are many everyday people owning MINIs so it’s perfectly alright not to, but it does feel special when two people can connect in a spur of the moment.
So feel free to stay alone in your own confined world on the road or connect with others across the pavement. It’s up to you.
Either way you don’t have to discourage others because you might not feel comfortable with it.
That's all
Well then, you don't understand anything about the car culture and should have your right to own a MINI revoked immediately.
But seriously, it's a common practice among owners of several special-interest vehicles: MINIs, Corvettes, Ford SVT Lightnings (SVT anything, really), to name a few.

Just got back from MINIs In The Ozarks (MITO), and I can now rest my arm. Lots of wavin' goin' on up there!
Back in the day--yeah, I'm dating myself--ALL sports cars waved to each other, regardless of marque. As more came across the Pond, the waves were only in response to your own kind. I'm seeing a resurgence of sorts among classic car drivers. When we are out in our Porsche 356, we get waves from ANY classic, as well as many from motorcyclists and the general public. Also, lots of thumbs up. And when 356ers see each other, it's almost cause to pull over and chat--just like long ago.
I think it's a healthy move back to civility on the road!

Offended, not at all…

With this last response you've grown in my eyes already

Waving isn't something that is second nature for me either (It feels awkward to me sometime) but making the extra effort doing it now and then since we got the MINI truly has its rewards and does feel great to the inner spirit of things, and to society at large, so I'm incline to encourage it always
I wave at mini's when i'm driving my mini.
I wave at jeeps when i'm driving my jeep.
I don't wave at anyone when i'm driving my Tundra.
Except...
Sometimes I cannot remember what i'm driving and wave at jeeps while driving my mini. Which gets me strange looks and an occasional wave.

Whats annoying is when I'm in my Mini swiftly cruising on winding roads & I come upon Harley riders that go waaaaayyyy too slow/cautiously yet have time to take their hand off the handle bars to wave at any friggin motorcycle that goes by! Come on!

Well out here no turn-outs but a few side roads they could have used! But geeze I followed what looked like 70's rejects for 32 miles of winding roads - ugh! Ahhh well - gotta share the road

Ironically, it would have been less stress on them, too!
It's all about ego - period. Any egotistical narcisistic person doesnt think about others and their warped thinking pulling over is giving in. Sad but true.
