Giggles, I know it's difficult in our cars, but if you get flashing lights from another MINI, slow down for a second and wave. That way your covered either way.

I got flashed on the way to KPDK this morning by another R53 and shot a wave back. I'd given up on these exchanges years ago because of lack of reply. I noticed modded Mini drivers seem to keep this tradition alive. Makes some sense.

Black with darkly tinted windows-are they waving? I can't tell. Should I wave? I don't know-I don't wanna invade their privacy. It seems like it's important to them.

JK, I'll probably be tinting my windows on my Chili Red. I love that look.
Just got my first MINI on Tuesday and I was waving even before I discovered this thread. Haven't had any wave back, but I'm not giving up so soon. Will implement your above criteria. I'll keep my eye out for those damn commuters. I'm ice blue with white racing stripes - hopefully that will inspire a few waves.

Keep waving!
Oh man that happened last night. It was the best thing ever. I was following my bf in his Subaru down a windy, curvy back road. Then I got the world's most enthusiastic wave from a silver MCS Convertible with silver mirror caps and black bonnet stripes from the driver AND his lady friend. It was so awesome. The bf assumed I knew them by how excited they both were let's just say, this has made all the countless non wavers not even matter!!

Don't put too much stock in that list. I'm pepper white with no bonnet stripes and I'm an enthusiast and a waver.

We MINI enthusiasts really are an easily amused bunch, aren't we?

I was driving on the way home last night and overtook a blue Cooper S. As I rolled by I looked over and waved. He glanced over and did a double-take but didn't wave. I was a little disappointed and motored on but low and behold, here's that same Cooper S zipping right along and weaving through traffic to catch up to me. He pulled alongside looked over, smiled and waved and then hit his brakes hard and pulled into the turn lane! Awesome! Went out of his way to return a missed wave!!! Whoever he was, Five full 'thumbs-up' to him!!!

In LA I would have been afraid he was coming back to shoot me for acknowledging his existence. Everybody here looks straight ahead or at their phone....everybody is so oblivious of anyone around them.

I love it! Yup. Lived there for 6 years. I feel your loneliness and sense of self-preservation! While there I figured the heck with it and looked around me at folks anyway..... So many unbelievably amazing and amusing things people there did While driving... Er... Do while driving. Theater on wheels! I did especially like the nearly startled looks if they look you dead in the eye and realize you saw them doing it!

Yeah people here are f'ng weird, but I fortunately work in an industry that is mostly people from somewhere else...so I don't really deal with a lot of locals.

I AGREE!! Although I am only one week in my Mini. Obviously nobody in this town got the MEMO.

8am this morning, I'm driving through a canyon park. Hardly any cars anywhere. Suddenly a car is a approaching. It's a MINI. My heart starts beating faster. Will this get me my first wave! I slow down and wave, my upper body pressed forward into my steering wheel (I do have tinted windows and wanna make sure they see me).

NO, NOTHIIIIIING.

Grrrrr argh.

I think there should be a button on the steering wheel with a hand icon on it. Press it and a sign on the grille pops up: "be a good chap, wave"

I have had my 2011 PW Mini since last December and wave and give the "peace" sign to all Minis. If they don't wave back, that's okay. Have a convertible makes it easy to me saying "hello" to my fellow Mini owners. I love when my husband is with me and I make him do the waving if we are in heavy traffic and I need to pay attention.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoys when people wave. I went to an autocross today and DC Metro Minis were there. Obviously, I got a boat load of waves :D

Yet another unreturned wave today. It was on the interstate with a pretty wide median, so I'm assuming she didn't see me. Which gets me to thinking I might need to break down and get some bonnet stripes.

I just got my Mini today (07 MCS) and was quite pleased that the first Mini I passed waved to me. I quickly returned the favor with a big grin. Couldn't have been better! Certainly makes the drive home more fun. Saw a few more today and only managed to get one other to wave, but I'm already sold on the waving so I wont stop!

Anyways, I'm having a blast with my MCS and couldn't be happier!

I am an avid MINI waver....my husband had to get an extra MetroplexMINI.org sticker for our truck cause I kept getting funny looks when I stuck my head out the window to make sure they saw me waving.

Aint't that true!! I was once driving my cousin's Honda Crapic along Highway 101 and saw all kinds of weird things going on. The traffic was so bad that it was goose the gas, brake, goose the gas again, brake again. This continued for over 45 minutes. And a guy in a Honda Scion to my left was slurping on a bowl of cereal as he nudged along with the traffic! Once off the highway, I saw a woman driving with her seat so low I couldn't see all of her face through the driver side window! I saw the top of her head and her hands on the wheel! So, yes, people are VERY weird!

This is the first I've heard of this as well...there are quite a few Minis here in Charleston, even a Mini Club, and no waves ever??? I will try to resurrect this tradition!!

I feel like a bit of an @$$ now. It's not often I even see another MINI in this small southern town, so when I actually did see one today, I got all excited and forgot to wave. If you're in the Russellville, AR, area, driving a really nice red MINI and didn't get a wave from a really dirty white MINI, I owe you one. Especially if you waved to me.
