I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread. It has inspired me to wave at every MINI I see on the road. I have had quite a few return waves or flashing lights...probably about half. It's funny, when I first started waving it was rare if anyone waved back. But, recently it seems that I am getting a lot more return waves. I have not had an opportunity to park next to a MINI....but I'm looking. I say just keep waving and don't worry about those that don't wave back. They just don't get it!

A bit ago I did an experiment. I waved at EVERY MINI that I saw while driving mine for an entire month... usually 5+ waves per day. Over the course of the month (well over 100 waves), I got 2 wave-backs.

Someone get a time machine and do the study. I'd bet that the # of wave-backs is inversely proportional to the # of MINIs on the road (The more MINIs on the road, the fewer the waves).

The weather has finally cooled down here in Dallas, so I'm driving home 5-6 miles at 30 MPH with the windows open. I'm waving like a mad man and haven't seen anyone return the favor in months! How sad.

I grew up in College Park, just outside DC, and learned how NOT to drive from those a55holes. but at the same time you do have to realize that most people in rush hour traffic are not very happy.as far as the guy that flipped you off, you did the right thing, what a D bag that guy was!

KEEP WAVING

I'm a waver! In the past week, I've had return waves except for one. I'll keep waving until my arm falls off.

I plan on waving still, even in rush hour hahaha. I suppose in a sense, I'm almost relieved it isn't me. I was starting to think eople didn't like me.

I have an idea. There should be a clause from the dealership when you buy a MINI that says "you MUST wave back to all MINIs you see or you will not be allowed to drive your car" and then the MINI police can enforce it lol. Jk!

I think you are right. Don't see many MINI's in my rural are and I have a better than 60% wave-back rate I will continue to wave...

Yeah, no kidding. That's ridiculous. The worst reaction I've gotten personally was just people staring straight ahead, refusing to look at me, like they were embarrassed to have shown up at a party wearing the same thing as someone else.

Hahahaha this is true ... I played a game where I counted all the MINIs on the road. And the number who waved/waved back. Yesterday, I saw 18 MINIs. 0 waved back.

I've pretty much given up hope for Memphis. I've waved at a ton of MINIs and have gotten back 1 wave since moving here in August.

Well, that's sad to hear... Not all of us are such dweebs though. You'd certainly get a hearty wave from me!

Yayyyyyy!!!! Definitely good to know there are at least some people in our area who aren't jerks. I was in Georgetown 2 nights ago. I didn't bother trying to wave because I knew none of the students there would wave.

I live out in a rural area, everybody waves at everyone else around here. It doesn't matter what you're driving or if you are walking or biking, so I'm not sure if other MINIs waving back counts, when I'm close to home. But, when I'm in town I get about 50% return waves from MINIs.

Hi.

New waver here! Still waiting for the first wave to happen! Started waving on Monday and so far nobody waved back.

I must say though, some didn't see me waving.

I do feel kinda embarrassed and sad when they don't wave.

I guess it's too early to give up yet.

Wilde Maus,
Don't give up. It's great when you get that wave from an enthusiast who is just as crazy about their MINI as you are about yours.
Keep waving!

I flash my high beams. I figure it's easier to notice than my waving behind the glare of the windshield and tinted windows.

Plus, it is not as disappointing if they don't flash me back. Hand gestures are just to much of an investment and the lack of return could be spirit crushing.

@JEdwards Thanks for your uplifting words. I won't give up yet.

@MNMLST Maybe I try flashing my high beams, see if that works.
Great idea.

Whenever someone flashes their lights at me, I just figure there's a cop parked somewhere chomping at the bit to ticket me
