3 waves in a row today

I have had my MINI for a month. Didn't get any waves. Today I had three in a row. Must be the sunshine.

It's funny... I have been Miniless for a few months now and I still have to fight the urge to wave when I go by other Minis. Going from two Minis at one point down to none... sucks

After my last post here I have to again say.... MINI owners, as a rule, do not wave back any longer. Sad really.

I disagree. I think it depends on the location. Here in Arkansas, I'm averaging about 75% responses. That may even be higher--sometimes due to windshield reflections I'm not sure if the person has waved or not.

In Texas, however (where I used to live), not so much. Probably fewer than 10%.

I passed three MINI's in Palm Coast and Flagler Beach today, I waved and received no wave back. All I did receive, was a look like I was some kind of idiot.

To Wave or Not To Wave

Remember, it's a numbers game, the more often you wave the more likely you will get a return. Good motoring is infectious and you may never know when you unexpectedly turn somebody's day around with a kind gesture. It sounds corney but, I believe this is part of the whole Mini ethos.

A Wave to All and Happy Motoring

I have two xenons and two big HID driving lights. I flash them over and over, hang out the window waving and toot the Hella Supertune horn on two lane downtown Savannah streets... Nothing. It IS a numbers game but not like you say. When the MINI world was a bit smaller there was more of a sense on community. Now the MINI is almost a commodity, ie: not quite as special as it once was and as such not the insular "elite" community. Kinda like Apple these days. I still flash, wave and toot though. Sigh...

Melangell - I think you bring up a very good point about the growth of the community and how some believe the Mini has become a commodity. You may be on to something comparing Mini to Apple, I never thought of it this way. All I know, is I put 30K miles + on my R56 each year, and think all the non-responsive drivers' are either concentrating on something more important or thay just didn't see me. For those who do reply or beter, innitiate the wave, for me, makes up for all who don't.

Happy Motoring, based on the description of your ride you are an over-achiever but, if we are to spend time out on those ribbons of asphault, we might as well enjoy it!

It's true ... New Yorkers aren't the friendliest. Got my third wave in 4 1/2 years from my almost identical countryman twin. Gotta love mini enthusiasm—when it happens!

I just had a guy return my sunroof wave near the metro station by my house. I find that the sunroof waves are pretty hard to ignore and they usually have around a 75%-80% ROI. Just remember to retract the sunshade before you go to wave though.

Waving

Unfortunately waving is a lost art compared to the "old days"

It's not for the want of trying but 9 times out of 10 you get the "what's with him?" look from the wavee.

Still, it doesn't hurt to try

I had a girl wave at me first today as we were passing in opposite directions! I hope she saw my whole arm out the window wave back!

Bottom line:

MINI People still wave at each other. Most MINI drivers do not... yet.

There might be more than one way to do this, but click on Forums in the left column, click on the forum that you want to post the new thread in and then click on the New Thread button.

Well, I gave my first wave and got my first non-response yesterday.

I was going westbound on Route 40 in Carneys Point, NJ when I spotted a white Hardtop across the relatively-narrow median, going the other way. I flashed my headlights and waved, but the white-haired lady driving the other MINI seemed oblivious. Either she didn't see me, or she considers her MINI to be nothing more than a cute little econobox.

Eh, I'll keep waving -- I'm used to it. It was the same way when I had the Lightning: some people would wave and some wouldn't.
