no matter how clean my car is, the clay bar always gets my paint and windows smoother. i would question your technique if the bar didn't do its job.

Arrr.... I did'na use any thread, lad. I just carved out th' mount with me knife, leavin' just enough o' th' original rubber t' center th' bushing, capped off th' bottom o' th' bloody thing, an' squeezed some 3M Windo-Weld in th' empty space....

I found that an empty Icebreakers mint tin were th' perfect size to cap off th' bottom once I'd drilled a 1.125" hole in it's center. I used a long bolt, a fender washer, and a wingnut t' hold 'er on th' bottom whilst I filled 'er with th' polyurethane.... You'll be wantin' to lightly grease th' mint tin so th' polyurethane doesn't stick to 'er....

C ya,
Dutch

Took Fenimore to Stevens Creek MINI, primarily because of damage caused by the stock jack when I tried (and failed!) to change out a flat. (Don't use the stock jack, it really sucks ***!!)

There was a rep from MINI there. He said the jack was not malfunctioning and was not a problem itself--but MINI has agreed to replace the gouged up rocker cover anyway. Happy!!

When the wheel was off (using a floor jack to lift the car, not the stock jack!) I had noticed a groove in the right-front rotor. They think this was caused by something getting stuck between the caliper and rotor for a while, before being tossed out. The groove is not normal wear, but it should not cause problems and will probably even out with the rest of the rotor before the pads wear out.

The sunvisor mirror covers are getting replaced, of course. I think they make those pivots out of silly putty...

They did the service campaign to replace the coolant temp sensor.

Inspection turned up an oil leak from the oil pump solenoid. (Why does the pump have a solenoid??) The leak had contaminated the engine wiring harness, which would eventually lead to failure. Both are being replaced.

Finally, they are doing the regular scheduled service/oil change/etc. It's a little early for that, but evidently they decided that 9500 miles and 11+ months was close enough to do it.

I must say that I'm quite happy with Stevens Creek MINI!

Just changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, washed the engine bay, and restored the outer plastic trim with some mothers (wish I had some black wow). It was a good excuse not to study for a few hours. But I got a call while I was working on it about a Job interview tomorrow, which I hope I get so I can get the Mini some new parts it needs and some rims. Fingers crossed

Not to "fall behind", today I installed a CravenSpeed MINI GPS Mounting bracket. I'll complete the concealed wiring kit some other day before the sun goes over the yardarm. Arrrrrrr!

Bravo to this mini owner. The eyepatch cracks me up but the "earring" is truly the coupe de grace.

My favorite talk like a pirate joke:

A pirate walks into a bar with a captain's wheel in his pants. The bartender looks him up and down and says, "Captain, do you know you have a ship's wheel in your pants?" The pirate responds: "Ayyyye, it's been driving me nuts all day."

Hubby painted his grille with plasti-dip, along with the chrome strip that goes around the car (molding?). Looks awesome! Now my grille and front bumper chrome pieces are in the process of being plasti-dipped

Later, I'll be doing the headlight surrounds and the rear bumper strip. Maybe I'll do the molding strip like he did. I just don't care for the chrome.

I use a small blades screwdriver or a pocket knife. It will snap back in place after its removed.

Also installed a new CARBONMINI carbon fiber dash overlay kit and CARBONMINI carbon fiber door trim overlay kit. I was told by Erin at CARBONMINI that I have the only R56 in the U.S. that has these kits.
