That splitter looks like it was chopped out of some thick plastic does it flex at all or is it holding up well? Looks sweet good deal.

All of you guys want a splitter that is just a flat pice of plastic?

I am currently working on a molded fiberglass splitter that will work with the R53 JCW aero front without the ugly turnbuckles.
Dont know how long my mould will last, but I might end up selling a couple of them.

We'll be marketing a splitter soon, the old G4 design, that now ties in with body mounts for a secure fit. Turnbuckles are optional for the street, but cool. And no worries, if we advertise on here, we'll register as a Vendor...

I picked up my R50 from Geasy's last night and while they were changing the rear struts and several other "normal" things, I had them put a 25mm Hotchkis rear sway bar and a D1Spec 7 Throttle Controller.

After spending nearly $9,000 above routine maint. in the last two years just keeping this car stock and operational, I decided to treat myself to a couple easy mods.

I recently paid the car off and need to keep it a while, so why not? My next car will be a 1st gen JCW. But in the mean time....

I have it bolted up in several locations underneath and obviously to include the support rods. It doesn't flex and I drive 50 miles round trip to work. It's holding up so far.

I understand that you don't like the air splitter I chose to go with and that is an observation you're entitled to. But I chose the splitter I went with strictly for cosmetic purposes. Yes I know, wrong way to go. But as long as it's supported correctly and serves MY purpose, then I count it as a win. Support rods are strictly preference, you might not like them but I do. I can safely assume judging by the fact that you're making a mold, that your product or splitter will cost more that what I paid for mine. I'm not saying it will be a superior/inferior product, but unless you do aerodynamic testing then every DIY splitter is strictly cosmetic. If you do the testing and it proves that it aids in aerodynamics and is priced well, count me in for one!

Don't take this as a bash on you or your DIY abilities, I'm also just "voicing" my opinions/thoughts.

No ofense taken. Yes I agree that unless something is tested properly that it is just a show pice. The first two I make (one for me, and one for a MINI5280 member) will be the test mules to see how it will hold up, before I decide if I want to make any more. If there is no performance gains from it, at least it will look cool and be unique.

Its all good though, he got new seats and nobody got sprayed.
Okay... what's the story. How did you get the skunk out of the garage without having him go into defensive (i.e. offensive) mode ?

Just slowly walk away and let him have the garage until he got bored and left ??

I have 2 garages one attached to the house and a detached shop "garage". Hillis24 (on here) actually was the one who saw the critter go into the garage attached to the house. I thought aw •••• (insert your choice of verbiage) so I called my house phone to tell the parents inside NOT to open the garage door. About 15 minutes later the little stinker just walked right back out, kinda looked around our back deck, then came walking right by us in the other garage with the big door open and out the front gate. I thought about taking a pic with my phone but didnt want the flash to be a tail lifter! Its like any other critter, if its not trying to eat you and you dont mess with it, it will more than likely do what it wants then leave on its own.

I'm waiting for my D1 to arrive from Greasy's any day now. I'm thinking of putting my display in the same spot on my Gen 2 but I don't think I have as much room as you. What's the height and width, if you don't mind taking a measurement?

I replaced the cooper badge on my boot with the R56 badge from Way Motor Works. Made it black first of course

Hey - thanks! I wish there were a spot to put it without having to reach through the wheel... I also have my nav mounted to the dash just a little to the right of that position so the wiring for the nav will be in front of the display if I end up going there.

So I have been asked by a couple people to show what my custom splitter is going to look like. Well your questions can only be answered so far with a couple pic's of the mould. I have no blueprint, no plans, and only my mind to go off of. But here is what I have so far... It will change a bit and A LOT of work has yet to be done. The mounting system needs to be cut and moulded, and I still need to find out how much it will cost for me to take it to the fiberglass shop to be made. Then your standard body work, primer and paint before I will even think about a small production run. This all could take a few months.

Theese pics have been altered to show the lines and angles in the mould.

Some primer the wood pice is the outline of the verry base of the JCW bumper.

everything should only extend the front lip by about 3" when all is said and done. But it will also lower the front by about 2".

It's pretty much set it and forget it. I played around with the settings at first, but now it just sits at sp5. I may even move it to be hidden at some pomint.

Very true. I also thought of mounting it the same dash piece where the ignition key is, but to the left of the steering column.

How did you attach yours?

it comes with some double sided tape, but it pulls off easily in case you want to relocate it, FYI. I played around with a few locations before I managed all the wires.

Picked up a used supercharger to swap for my original , which is starting to have the 'death rattle' from the water pump drive gears. Got a great deal on it.

Won't get to install it until next weekend , as I'm still in the middle of helping a friend move this weekend.

While it's apart, I'll get the chance to swap in new o-rings for the dipstick and crank position sensor and generally clean up under the intake manifold....

C ya,
Dutch

Looks good. I have two gauges, one on either side of the tach, so I mounted mine on the dash near the bottom of the A pillar.

Been a while since I've posted here, just been busy/swamped with life stuff. . . anywho. . .

The new shift **** of the short shifter going into L'ili'i Ka'a. Will be getting done just as soon as my new resonator gets welded into the Alta sporttone exhaust going in.

Also, got the torque pro app and OBD2 reader, so we'll see what that's all about.

LED Black and Grey union jack side markers from Out motoring, as well as film to smoke the rear tail lights.

I see the update you did about the one your designing and it looks real good so far I hope you keep updating us with pics as it progress' it is always a lot of fun to see something take shape from an idea and into the final product i am anxious to see how it looks all done and on a MINI. Good job man.
