Oil change, transmission fluid flush and removed the fake sticker "grill" from the rear bumper. Found a busted control arm bushing while I was under there.
A good bit of work! Could use "goo gone" or similar product on that lower bumper to get the rest of the fake grill sticker residue off of the painted surface. Then wax it, of course.
Driving MC40 #24 today such a great running car with only 264K miles.
I cleaned and sprayed the rear brake rotor wheel mounting surface with High Temp (1000 F) silver paint to prevent more surface rust on my R52.
Motor on!
And no pictures of the work?
If I painted anything here today, the paint would freeze before it had a chance to dry. We don't even think of painting until late April, if we're lucky!
Nothing major here. Just starting to get to the nit picky stuff on my car now... Replaced the cigarette lighter outlet and the halo ring that goes around it. In the process, I noticed that the shift gaiter had a hole in it from wear...so now I'm going to be looking for a real leather replacement.
Finally Finished putting on all the stripes on "The Rascal" thats what i call my Mini she came out great if i say so myself considering i have zero experience in Rally striping and pin striping .Patients is the key
Before i removed the original stripes
Top down and Rally stripes done side top and back
Here is the back Love my Mini even more now

Two things savagetone. You stripes look awesome considering you've never done anything like this. Good job! Second thing, I sure miss Florida. Cheers

I'm in the same boat AK. Looking at some nice one, but they are from England and the shipping is just as much as the boot, lol. Hey, do you have many places to drive you Mini around Kodiak? I almost took a job there one time with the Coast Guard. Cheers!

Hahahahahahaha MiniRoadstah "If I painted anything here today, the paint would freeze before it had a chance to dry." Man that sounds cold. You must be all the way up top Maine? I do know it's pretty up there. Last year we did a roadtrip through all of the New England states and over to Montreal. Stay warm my friend.

Not way up north... but up in the hills far enough to be surrounded by a sea of white. There's a lot more snow on the ground now, than when this picture was taken.
Heat works too. What side is it? I have a passenger side knuckle somewhere if you want me to look for it. They're $40 bucks at the scrap yards by me....
I finally got around to TRYING to drill that bolt out, no good. Can i take you up on that knuckle for the passenger side?

I really like the chrome R50 style grill so I ordered the upper and lower chrome trim bars from Mini Mania, they arrived last night and I put them on this morning. I think it really jazzed up my front end.

Did the wet sanding and clear coat method of restoring headlights. I had the worst headlights I've ever seen, which didn't capture well in the before photos. They were yellow and incredibly cloudy. Still need to let dry and wet sand the clear coat to remove orange peel, then wax. Still way better than before. I spent more time taping than sanding and clear coating, this is a simple process. If anyone wants I can post a how to.
Before
After wet sanding (removes yellow)
After clear coat
I've done this to head lights on my older cars, and it works very well, although I only taped the edges around the lights. I've shown others how to do it as well.
You should post what you did and what you used. I see cloudy yellowed lights every day. Yours turned out really clear... excellent.

The trash bags are for the overspray of the clear coat. I've seen a lot of wet sanding methods on the internet using baking soda, toothpaste, 3M sanding kit, but they all will turn yellow and fog up in a matter of months. The key is to use the clear coat spray paint to seal them up, and wax after.
Process:
Wet sand with 400 grit, then 600 grit, then 2000 grit, then clean with alcohol and spray with clear coat.
