'13 r56s

Need some guidance with NCSEXPERT.

'13 R56 S with Navi
Cable: Purchased from ECUTOOLS
Dell Computer: Windows XP SP3 with 3.5sp1 .net

Errors I am getting: is either faulty vin or chassis

Installation Procedure:
1. Plug in cable and it installed.
2. Set COM port to 1 and set latency timer to 1
3. Installed BMW Standard Tools.. (setup_2100 files) Reading the install notes looks like it is version 7.2.0
4. During installation I used default settings.. Uncheck back and selected Standard ODB2.
5. Installation created all the default directory.
6. Extracted R56 49.4 daten files
7. Made a R56 directory under c:\NCSEXPER\DATEN\
8. copy the content from r56 daten file to that new directory
9. copy all files to c:\ncsexper\sgdat directory
10.copy files to c:\ediabas\ecu
11.Ran Laden.bat. Ran into a few error at the end not finding files. Is that normal?
12.Copy revtor.pfl file to PFL
13.Started IPA to verfiy and closed program
14.Launched NCS, load Profile,Vin/zcs/fa,Zcs/Fa, as for car choose r56, read from ECU and I get either faulty vin or chassis no found depending on my installation.

Am I missing a step? Should I follow the guide to the T with the old datens and ediaba program and then up the files?

Any suggestion would help.. just have to point me in the right direction.

My guess is something you did wrong with your Daten/R56 folder. Maybe try another clean install with 51.1 Daten files instead. Those are the latest out right now.

My turn to ask for guidance. I have gotten close, but have hit a snag. I have my cable, finally got everything downloaded (challenge), and loaded. Hardwared configured.. Good to go, almost.....

Everything runs (INPA, WinKFP, Tool32), except NCS-Expert tool. Having 64bit issues with Win7. Won't run in compatibility mode. I have downloaded Win Vitual machine add on, but have no idea how to fix this. Do I have to load XP on the machine and reload everything?!

Maybe it would be easier for me just to find an older junk laptop and start over? Or is there an obvious easy fix I am missing? Thanks in advance! MC

It says not compatible with 64bit -- yada, yada, yada error box. Tried running in compatiblilty mode-- same thing.

I snagged an old laptop from work with XP. Just configured everything on it. I should be able to give this a run over the weekend. I have to give it some more study. But, job #1 is to get my SAT radio module recognized. I have a dealership appointment for Wednesday to have this done. It will give me great satisfaction to say "Sorry, I did it myself and you can't have my money."

If you go on the bimmer forums, there are some who have links to the newer versions of everything (NCS-expert, etc). You won't be able to load the profile given here but there is a profile that is similar and works just fine. Even if it is in a different language, all the F keys and functions are the same. But the benefit is that they are compatible for Windows 7 64-bit.

It means to restore the modules back to factory settings.

Let me clarify, it restores the modules according to
the vehicle order. So if you change the VO it won't go back to how it left the factory but to the new VO.

I think I am getting it. Newest hurdle is my error is a BEST error. It appears I need a version 7.2 of EDIABAS. I can't find a valid link.. can someone provide me one? Thanks... getting very frustrated with how difficult this is.

I will try a set of BMW tools 2.10 or above if someone can give me a link. I guess I will have to do a fresh install of everything. I have tried about 5 versions of files, and I exect it is hosed up by now.

At least my cable works... :(

Give us an update on the versions your running including what operating system you're using. It seems that you don't have everything installed correctly.

You probably need EDIBAS 7.x (7.3 is the newest I believe - that's what I have), which is available just google search for it.

The bimmer forums are a great resource for this stuff.

OK.. I have started over, and reloaded everything per these threads. I am back to everything trying to work, and getting the "BEST description" error again when trying to read the .trc file. I understand this should be a version error of EDIABAS.

I am running Mini Coding Standard Tools 5.0, Datens (V40) loaded, and I am showing EDIBAS ver 6.4.x. I have downloaded 7.2.0, but I don't know how to update the previous version.

I get the same error regardless of which profile.

I feel I am at 99%, but it just barely is failing...

More info. I think I am at 99.9% now.

HELP.

I got EDIABAS updated to 7.2.0. That fixed the software problem (I found another thread on that problem).

Now, I think I have the coding all done, but still no-worky?!

Doing a SAT Radio retrofit. Added $655 in CAS and FRM. Also removed $693 from both. Went back into each module to make sure the changes took. All good.

Did a SG_RESET on 2RAD.

Should be working, but not. Again, I see this language "default modules." Did I miss a step? Do I have to disconnect the battery or something?

I also know the SAT module is passing fiber optic on the MOST connector. The bluetooth is on the menu, but the SAT won't show up.

What do I do next?

So close, yet so far....

Are you sure that using SG_RESET is the correct way to default?

I'm not sure of anything. I'm new to this. It is what I was told (to reset the 2RAD module). What other way is there to default? It is the reason for my earlier post. I haven't done anything with FRM and CAS except for writing the changes and verifying they took. What else might need to be done?
