HELP!!! My car won't respond any more

Help, I think I screwed it up. Here is the back story of what happened. I had an oil leak at the oil cooler. I didn't disconnect the battery while removing the oil cooler and I shorted out the lead going to the alternator. I realized instantly I forgot the battery then disconnected it. Finished the oil cooler seal replacement and when I started the car the lights didn't work. I then researched on the net like I am now and found the cable and software. This morning I plugged it all in, got the car to read on the software and now it has stopped responding completely. I disconnected the laptop and came in to type this email.

I have the following software.
EDIABAS Toolset 32, inpa, winKFP, NCSExpert, NCS for dummies. I have a cable and drivers installed.

I am not sure what to do next, but I am very concerned I have messsed up the car. I would really appreciate any help, at this point I am willing to pay someone to come over or remote code the car. I am about ready to take it to the dealer but man, I know it is going to be so expensive!!!! Please help!

I have an OBD2 cable that worked with my R53. I was able to code several things. Can I use this same cable for my R58?

Depends. If supports DCAN also or only KCAN.

For the R53, I jumped pins 7&8. Does that jump remain or should I undo it?

In theory, you should remove it. But you can try before that.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but I strongly encourage everyone coding or looking to code to download the package linked below which includes the EXCELLENT BMW Coding Tool, which brings an easier graphical element to coding and also features built in backups/restores, .MAN/.TRC file management, automatic Daten file updating and more.

Also, this package includes everything you need to use NCS Expert with Win 7/8 64-bit systems! I used this to do some coding on my R60 on my Surface Pro 3 running Win 8. No virtual machines needed.

All the info below, though the Datens after the link are a bit outdated. Grab the latest Datens from this NAM thread:

Does anyone know how to edit the list of chassis codes so that it only lists R56? This why I don't have to scroll down to select it (yes I am being lazy).

So I'm pretty new to the Mini world (R56 MCS) and very interested in NCSexpert. I have been able to find and download the datens as well as NCSexpert for Dummies. But I can't for the life of me find the actual NCSexpert to download. Can some one guide me in the worn direction. I've looked all over the forum

There are two links just a couple posts above yours to the BMW Coding pack (which includes everything you need for x64 systems) as well as the links to the older NCS Expert on the Countryman section.

Using Chrome? It is most likely blocking it because it's a .zip file...Go to Downloads in Chrome and click "Recover malicious file" and click "Keep Anyway"

That being said, I just tried re-downloading and it won't uncompress without erroring out...

I should add - that's for the Mega link. The other link I posted seems to be working, but it goes through the much slower Uploaded.net site.

NCSExpert DIY(do it yourself)

I'm looking for the code to extend the power duration after ignition off to the coupe/roadster spoiler wing button.

Something like the windows power for 1 minute after ignition off. If I lock the spoiler up and forget to put it down before turning car off it makes me restart the car to put the wing down.

You should be fine. I've done it on a 2007.

Which parameters did you change to disabled?
I don't have in my FRM module KALTUE_FL_M2_6_M1_04 (for high beam).
I do have KALTUEBERWACHUNG_FL.

The exact syntax may vary from year to year but anything with kaltue (COLD) or warmue (WARM) is for the bulb checks. For the high beams, the only thing that is important is the "KALTUE" and "FL" anything else does not really matter. So for your car the high beam cold check is what you listed:

KALTUEBERWACHUNG_FL.

This confused me too at first. My car (2013) does not have "BERWACHUNG" but the 2007 model that I help code did. Worked perfectly.
