the lucky guy

I am the lucky guy who got the WMS Exhaust installed yesterday on the top floor of the Palace Station. The exhaust was shipped to the hotel and arrived at 3 on Friday afternoon. After some "custom, post manufacture craftmanship" the exhaust fit perfectly. I have to say, it is everything I expected and more. Although the valve is not complete yet, the exchange between the open and closed positions is easy to adjust. I had Brian install it in the closed position for the drive to my house. When I got home I decided to switch to the open position and see what this thing could do. The sound in the closed position is virtually undetectable at highway cruising speeds, but has a nice deep tone in the lower gears. I drove about 30 miles to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway today with it in the open position and it was definitely not something I would want to drive with for much longer than 30 miles when open. On the track it just kicked butt. The sound and low end torque are the two best qualities in my opinion. I asked Brian what the dyno results were, but they hadn't done a dyno on a vehicle with no header. When they dynoed Brians with a header it came to 13 whp OVER the magnaflow system.
I paid $875 for the system. Randy says he is still trying to cut the cost on the valve, so he doesn't have a final price yet. I sympathize with the people that were supposed to get the exhaust on Friday because I was supposed to get this system in late January, but it wasn't ready. Nonetheless, when this product goes into full production, it is going to be perfect.
I have low quality sound clips from my digital camera, but I don't know how to make them the right size to upload them. If someone can PM me a short lesson on how to take a quicktime movie and make it small enough to put on NAM, that would be great.

Lucky Guy indeed

I set up the Norfolk pulley party hoping to be the first to have this system on... so I'm insanely jealous right now. I'm positive it'll be worth the wait. I do plan on running mine 5 runs stock, 5 runs closed, 5 runs open same day when it's installed. Hopefully Bridget will be calling to take my credit card number sometime soon.

What year is your Mini? Where did Brian mount your switch? How does the system and tips look in person? In closed mode, any other exhaust you've heard that you'd compare it to? Do you notice a power increase in the closed mode? Any guess how much MORE of an increase over the closed position? What other mods do you have installed? Where is Jimmy Hoffa? What is the secret formula for Coca-Cola?

pics! Sound clips! Someone at AMVIV this weekend has the technology I'm sure!

If anyone has a right to ***** it would be me I was the prototype mule.... still waiting.... actually, as long as I have it for the Dragon for "bragging rights" I don't care...... this should be no problem (I have a little birdie)..... I'm just glad it is finally happening..... I have a switch that does nothing in my dash that I would like to re-connect.

What year is your Mini? 2005 Where did Brian mount your switch? No switch yet because there is no valve yet. Where the valve is going to be there is either a metal plate (closed position) or a metal ring (open position). three bolts hold this in place at the rear left side of the car. How does the system and tips look in person? the tips look like the miltek/jcw. No engraving on the top. It looks really good. In closed mode, any other exhaust you've heard that you'd compare it to? I would compare it most closely with a miltek, but I think it has a deeper tone/burble when you get above 4,000 RPM. Do you notice a power increase in the closed mode? Definitely notice an increase in power in both open and closed. What other mods do you have installed? check my sig.

If not you can Import it into iMovie and then Export it as Web ready or Email ready. This will reduce it quite well using defaults. Using email will reduce the file size by about 50%. You could also strip out the video and make it even smaller.

If it's under 5Mb you could email it to me and I'll do it. I could host it temporarily on my .Mac account as well. PM me if you want to go that route.

I put a picture of the exhaust tips in my gallery. I just drove home to Tucson from AMVIV with the exhaust in the open position. Cruising at 85 with the windows/sunroof cracked and my stereo going, the exhaust was not ridiculously out of control. I could tell it was there, especially when I rev matched/downshifted to pass someone, but I could hear my music fine and I definitely don't have a headache or anything from too much drone. The range of sounds at WOT in each gear is different and changes through the powerband. In 1st it roars all the way to redline. In third, once I hit about 4500 RPM the majority of sound was from my Alta intake. It definitely has some personality. I am going to close it up in the next couple of days and do another sound clip. I am working on getting my video with it open online.

Sorry guys but I promised Peter and Randy that I would not post any pics of the unit until they have the final production unit from the builder. The unit I got was the final prototype and will be exactly the same as the sport version they have coming out. I can't wait to get the thing on my car but I will have to wait alittle cause they didn't bring the mid pipe piece. When its on my car I will post some sound clips? As for the new intercooler, man that thing is f#@ken sweet. I would get one but I went way over my budget over the weekend.

Turns out only one showed up and I was pretty pissed! The really bad news is that you guys might have to wait alittle longer now because I saw them having trouble installing the exhaust due to fitment issues on the lucky guy who got one. I didn't ask what was wrong cause I was so pissed I didn't get one!

But the really good news is there's another cool exhaust from M7 that is due out in a few weeks or months! They had it on their blue Cosworth car and it sounded awesome. The exhaust is not on their website yet but they brought along a display or prototype with them to show to everyone. Peter and Randy at M7 knows I have a lot of mods from them and in the end, I was driving home with the exhaust sitting in the back of my MCS.
We struggled to make it happen, and were told by the manufacturer that we would get three systems. When the packages FINALLY arrived, we only got one full system and part of a second. The tweak needed has been incorporated to the rest of the systems so that anyone (not just pros like Webb Motorsports) will be able to fit the part without any trouble. It was a simple fix, but was a little challenging on site.

I am VERY SORRY for the two folks who wanted but did not get the system. If there was any other way to make it happen, I would have done it. Matthew has been waiting since January. I appreciate all of your patience, and I am very happy with the product. We should be shipping the final production versions within the next two weeks. The delay was the packing materials we ended up with on the muffler.

I love your car by the way! I'm glad we did some work to it. I hope we can do things in the future as well.

Hope that helps!
Randy

Hi Randy,

I am not mad at you and understand that things happen. Thanks for taking the time to put the pulley on my car and man it feels much stronger now. I just have to find some time to put the plugs in now. What gap should I do the plugs at? Man I went way over on my budget over the weekend, it was like a kid at a candy store. I now have a new set of Willwood 12.2 cross drilled brakes and a new M7 exhaust just sitting in my garage. I have them hiding in my truck so my wife does not see it!

Randy, do you have a install instructions on your site for a big brake kit? I was looking at the brakes and it does not look too bad to do, I just never done one.

Thanks again for your help and work on my car. Hope to see you soon.
David

The plugs are pre-gapped, so drop them in as is.

Take a look at the website in the how-to forum, www.webbmotorsports.com, and there is a rotor and pad change how to that will get you started.

Thanks for understanding!!

I finally figured out a way to get the video up. Here is the link to cut and paste: http://youtube.com/watch?v=WfsC25FnWhI
Yesterday in the parking garage I park in I was setting off car alarms left and right. I know the white roof radio guys got a soundclip of Brians car so when they post that then people can compare the sound with and without a header.
