Tune + exhaust

Has anyone noticed a change in the sound of their exhaust after a tune?
I have been playing with an alta 3" turbo back catless. I have been trying to get a sound I like.
At the moment I am close. I Installed a vibrant performance 18" resonator this weekend and it made the exhaust very quiet. I was shocked. I was trying to shift a drone to a different rpm range. It helped that a bit, but I was a bit surprised how much quieter it is now.
I am just wondering what the stage 3 tune will do if anything to the sound.

I am hoping to get a bit more sound but not much.

Thanks, Nate

I uploaded my stage 3 map yesterday after installing a WMW 2.5in catless downpipe. The rest of my exhaust is 2.5in tubing as well, using a borla XR1 muffler with no resonator. The sound is fine while cruising, not much different than with the stock downpipe. Quiet with no drone. It'll drone if you open the throttle at low rpm in a high gear but if you downshift first it's fine.

When you go WOT the sound is way louder, pretty sure it's due to the downpipe though and not because of the tune. With the stock downpipe you can really hear the turbo, with this setup it sounds like an NA engine which I wasn't expecting.

In terms of power increase, it's a linear map so it maintains its linear characteristic. The main difference I've noticed is a lot more tire spin accelerating from a stop and once on the freeway the car feels more effortless maintaining higher speeds. It's nice.

That is wierd because I have an Invidia exhaust and a catless dp and when I get on it it quiets down because the turbo sucks up a lot of the sound. That is like most of the turbo'd vehicles I know of.

Yeah, definately way different than that for me. The hard I push the louder it gets. Catless DP and NM Exhaust. It gets very loud! I love it

Down Pipe Gasket

Hey Guys,

Just curious if you used a new gasket or one at all when you did your downpipe swap?

Thanks.

Always use a new gasket at the downpipe/turbo connection, yes.

Looks like it takes a while to adapt to the new tune... I drove the car around all day today and now it feels significantly faster then when I first put the stage 3 on two days ago. It's really nice now

Just installed my stage 2 tune yesterday (2.5" turbo back, with 300 cell catted downpipe/massive front mount/intercooler muffler delete(s)/K&N drop in) and it RIPS now! The turboback, and intercooler netted around 20 whp from my butt dyno, and I'm guessing this added another 20-30 whp.

What downpipe are you running?

Made my own exhaust from scratch. 2.5", 300-cell, 22" resonator, and double chamber muffler.

Powergate 3

Hey Guys,

Plugged the powergate 3 into 2007 Mini Cooper S. Wasn't sure what option to choose. I think Cooper D & One are diesel.

This was the list. I hope I am not missing something obvious. I see in the R55 a Cooper S option, but on the R56 I am not sure what option to choose.

I am looking to tune my 2010 coopers s. I have the BMS chip on my 335d and I really enjoy it. Those of you that are raving about the battle tuning tunes are they really worth more than 2X the price of the BMS chip? Right now I'm just wanting to do a "stg 1" and I'm leaning towards the K&N intake system.

Thanks for any input.

Hmmm....well I've had the JB4 when I had my 335i back then, and though I was really happy with the power output of it, I personally like what Battle/DNA have done with their tune. It has completely transformed my MINI and having run their Stage4 for over a week now, I absolutely love driving the MINI even more.

In your case though...for just a stage1, I'm sure you'll net more gain from upgrading to stage1 over an intake, but it would come down to what you said, 2x the cost. I find it kinda funny that a BMW is 2x the cost of our MINIs, and you can get dual cone intakes for $100 while MINI intakes are 3x the cost for an intake compared to the BMW. lol

I wouldn't even do an intake. It's all noise. Unless that's what you want. Biggest bang for performance is DP, Tune, and FMIC. You'll be set until you do the little things like DV and some other small things like a hot side boost tube, ect.

I meant to say the aem cold air intake. I realize those items are as you say best bang for your buck. I'm looking to only spend about $1k and that right there would be the tune and intake. After speaking directly to battle tuning they recommend an intake with thier stg 1 tune. I'm not familiar with "DV" what is that referring to?

Thank you.

The Diverter Valve mounted to your turbo housing, it's responsible for dumping boost pressure when you let up on your throttle or shift gears. The stock DV dumps too much boost because it's either at open position losing boost or closed to maintain boost. The are other diverter valves that are faster (Forge DV) and don't unnecessarily dump excess boost giving you better throttle response especially when switching gears.

I'm sure Battle can do it with tuning your ECU. Wagner motorsports in NC also works with DNA. They charge $579 and can customize the tune to your requests.

Seems a little low, after looking through this thread. 2.5" catted turbo-back, FMIC, drop in air filter, stage 2 battle tune.
