Drivetrain Battle/DNA Tune Thread
Ok, got my tune, downloaded the linear throttle, linear map. My opinion, this thing just pulls and pulls till redline. Yes the car does drive different, you need to keep your speed up, if for some reason you're lugging along and mash it, it basically skips a beat, then off she goes. Seems you may also have to shift more to keep it up in revs. One thing though, she no longer gets winded at the top end. I can see why you would want this on the track, if you keep your speed up, she flys. Luckly the state trooper did not come out after me at noon. Got to watch that big speedo more. Personally, I like it. Sometime later, I'll try my linear throttle, non- linear map.
Got my stage 2 tune today as well. First I tried the map with "linear" in the title. PaScrambled's description matches it perfectly. Lots of power but you have to rev it to access it. The sport button doesn't do much to the way the throttle responds, pressing it improves the response a little.
I then switched over to the map that is only called "Stage 2." WOW! Gobs of torque everywhere. With this map the throttle response feels stock, becoming an on-off switch when you press sport. Really nice map and the power is there all the way to redline. I love this map, it's great for driving around in the city and passing people at will.

This sentence doesn't make any sense.
The "Stage 2 linear" map has less torque and the throttle responds in a linear manner. Pressing the sport button doesn't do much to change throttle behavior.
I think I understand what the confusion was. What I meant was that with the "non-linear" map and sport on, when you press the throttle a little the throttle body opens a lot, which is the way the throttle works with the stock tune. That is what I meant by "on-off switch."
Tried the download tune "stg2 lin + nlbb", should be linear throttle, non linear map. Really different than the linear map, pulls down low, tons of torque steer all the way to about 6k. At 6k noticed a cutout effect, seemed to drop out then pick backup, almost like traction control activating, but no light, did get the light down low and could feel tire spin. More typical Mini feel on steroids. I do like the linear throttle, better than the stock (my opinion!). Now do I get a dyno run or just need to decide on which tune to run! What are you seeing for cost of dyno, local wants 150 for 3 pulls. If i do a dyno, going to see if we can do both tunes under one cost, 2 pulls each.
For folks trying out linear vs. typical R56 mapping with all that torque down low... were you offered to switch between the maps or provided with both at the time of purchase? Did you pay extra for that 2nd map? I got in on the group buy, but it will be some time before I am able to go through with the tune as I'm building my R56 now, but just curious. THanks.

+1, just ask for both, no issues from John. Just give him a complete list of modifications and he'll do the rest. Both my tunes where sent in one folder, did not realize I had both till I went to download to ECU.
If you want something adjusted or you want to try it out, just shoot me an email and we'll take care of you.
Since RJT dyno'd we adjusted his map and now he's in absolute heaven.
I only tune and work on MINIs, so you guys get all my undivided attention unlike other tuners.

I was playing with the linear map (linear throttle and linear curve) today and used my torque app to look at the way the throttle behavior changes pressing the sport button. I noticed that the throttle opens the same amount (relative to pedal position) with sport on and sport off, the only difference being that the steering gets firmer with sport on. I thought the throttle behavior changed a little with the sport button and linear map, but I can confirm that for my tune it doesn't.

With which map?
With the stock tune I agree, but with Battle Tuning it won't fall flat after 5k. That's the main thing I hate about a stock MCS, just feels unhappy past 5k...
You can have a fancy power band that is steady, but if you have no torque left, what good is your tune? You'd essentially be paying for another AP, with the same power band, only to say you have a "custom" tune.
I agree with the torque statement. For example look at Drag Racing. Number years back they were crank as much HP as they could. It worked of course. More HP will equal better higher speeds. However, still looking at drag racing here, the started to decrease the engine HP and focus on Torque. The end result was a car that had about 150HP less but about 100 more torque and would go fast than the old model.
I know that's hardly relatable to the type of tuning we've got going on here. I just wanted to make a point of how important torque numbers and delivery are. I love my tune. Delivery is great. Power is great. Torque is great. So in short, its great

been driving stage semi LNR..loving it..
for those that concern about gas mileage. here is what you can do to get better MPG.
1) non sport mode you get (if lucky) same mpg as non tune.
2) sport mode, you can kissed that 30 mpg good bye.
So lesson here is if you want to save gas with DNA tune, then don't use sport mode. Sad thing is you won't be happy..
To be happy, turn on that freaking sport mode..you will grin from point a to point b...
Really love this tune. my mpg went from 30 with Access port stage 1 to 25 mpg stage 3 dna tune. But you know what..really worth it.
I will get this baby dyno tomorrow night. Will report back with result.

25 mpg puts it on par with ~2.5L 4-cyl NA engines that have far less hp/tq. Soon all cars will have turbo engines, no way around it.
