no dyno, or visual inspection, just via the OBD port. With the DP you will get the P420 code and won't be able to pass.

Just received my powergate 3 from battle tuning and it shows up in the pwguser program but says "the device is unusable because it is not initialized" and on the powergate screen it won't show me anything but a black screen with the word "test app is running".... Anyone have any suggestions!!?!?

Guys, please read the user manual that was provided in the link I've provided. It is there for a reason.

It will guide you through the process of connecting it to your MINI and downloading your data file to your PC. It's not hard and will solve all your initial questions.

Do a little reading guys/gals...!!

Trouble setting up Powergate

I received my Powergate 3 today from battle tune.
I installed the PWGUser software on my laptop.
When I connect Powergate via USB the connecting to device window says device connected and then identifying device.

The Powergate display reads "running test app"
It never proceeds past identifying device. Been trying for 9 hours through several reboots and retries.

For those of you who have successfully done this process what happened for you when plugging Powergate into PC?

Any one had this issue and been able to resolve it?

Thanks

Did you connect it to the MINI at all? That's the first step...

After going back and forth through email with battle tuning last night and being told to read the manual multiple times they came to the conclusion that this could be an issue on their side and they might need to send me a new unit. Will try to post updates as the issue is resolved since it seems I'm not the only one having this problem.

On a more positive note, I also wanted to mention how even with this issue coming up at 9pm on a Saturday night I was still able to email john at battle tuning and got responses back almost immediately even though their office was closed for the day.

Ran mine today. 191 WHP. Was told it's too rich up top and too lean down low. Battle should clear that up then I'll run it again.

What intake are you running with, AEM or open filter type? It's the torque drop at 3300 rpms that give it away.

Nice run anyhow, once your AFR is adjusted you should see high HP numbers.

NM intake, so I do believe that's open filter type.

Not at the moment. There hasn't been much interest as far as bench tuning goes as well, so until we have access to tuning on the Powergate3, we'll let everyone know.

Bench tune is sending your ECU to the company.

No way you can pass a sniffer test with a catless DP, the exhaust is noticeably different without the cat... I can smell it at most stop lights...
That's what dry gas or alcohol is for.

I'm new to the MINI world but not to modding cars and it took me awhile to figure out what DP and FMIC were lol.

Something I've been trying to glean from this thread is what are the definitions of linear vs non-linear in the context of tuning these cars?

I understand one is low-end torque and the other top end but I'm trying to understand the definitions in this reference.

Linear vs. non-linear is referring to the throttle curve. The MINI is throttle by wire so you can adjust the curve. Linear would be a 1:1 ratio, like you still have a throttle cable. I prefer non-liner because I like a touchy throttle tip-in.

Non-linear is essentially how your MINI drives now. Power delivery would be sometime like that, but obviously with more power

Linear, it's like driving a naturally aspirated car. Takes a lot of revs to get to the power.

Kind of like stock sport button on vs off.

I swear you have to have your foot more in the throttle with the sport button off, which seems like it would hurt mpg as well.

Thanks guys!

You do have to have your foot in the throttle more when sport is off, because the throttle curve is not as aggressive. However it's not hurting mileage at all, because even though you are commanding 30% throttle, it may only give you 20%. Then when sport is on 30% may give 30% response or possibly even higher. That is why I like the non-linear maps. I like barely having to touch the pedal to get moving from a stop light...

Also I thought that I had read somewhere that with the sport button off it only goes up to 75% throttle. The more you drive a car with RBW you can tell how much it intervenes.

two250,

I'm with you. I like having a crisp tip in off the line. I'm actually amazed at the low-end torque these motors have given that most four banger cars have torque curves that look like a backwards L.

I say that I drive hard at times but I still really don't get near red line. If i'm getting on it, I typically **** around 5k. Of course I'm stock with no tune, so, the power isn't there all the way to redline anyways.

Yea stock tune really falls flat after 5k, a tune from Battle/DNA will fix that though!

Yeah, that will be in future plans. Just no $$$ for it though. I'm guessing the odbII adapter is included?
