It would add a little more stiffness to the steering, but probably still quite a bit less than a stock rack with no power.

on a side note, for anyone watching.

Anyone interested in buying a V-series Vipec PNP for the mini?

(looking to go to an i series if someone will buy the v series off of me)
i series comes with OBDII support, which while not required as my state has no emissions checks, would be nice should I be forced to move at some point.

looking to sell for $2000 shipped. (assuming I can still get the new one for the same price)

Have original box etc. Hole has been drilled in the side for the expansion cable. (which I will most likely be keeping)

PM me for more details!

Alternator pulley delayed. (parts from germany)
New ETA is the 30th (to ECS tuning before they ship to me)

But!

Shipped out turbo manifold, downpipe, turbine housing to Swaintech in Ithica, NY to be coated with white lightning!

(Wooohhooo!!)

CNC plates got put on a temporary hold while he does a rush job for a "better paying customer" (fine by me. cuts me a break)
Hopefully done by the end of the month.

aaaannnddd... I dropped a wad of cash off to the west coast and have an
OS geiken twin disk clutch and an os geiken LSD headed my way...

now to wait....

not sure about the hardware itself, but if you are envious of the dent it caused in my bank account, I will gladly allow you to absorb it

Dumb question. Does anyone out there have any idea how hard it might be to adapt one of the Lotus steering racks mentioned above to a Gen 1 Mini? I'm planning ahead. I have already replaced one power steering pump, anticipating another.

Well the i-series ViPEC is under a GB right now over on the RMW site... $2300 Or something like that...

As for the Lotus rack, you would need to ask the guy who originally though of using one... Also on the other site...

well in preparation for the LSD I decided to clean some things up a little bit (outside of the transmission and the bell housing)

Things were quite filthy, but I got most of the gunk off.

However, to my surprise, the inside of the transmission was spotless!

only metal shavings were in fact on the magnet, and it wasnt that clogged up either!

not too bad for 135K miles!
(of beating the ever living crap out of it )

haha, no. the wheels are quite german. (BBS CV)

the OS geiken stuff is made in Japan :3

on a side note..

GOT DAMNIT WMW!
(replaced my clutch last)

looked at the pressure plate today and 2 of the pressure plate bolts already had their heads sheered off.
Just the splines though, so the shoulders were still holding the plate on.

Then two more broke when trying to remove them.

Only was able to get two out in tact.

Everything else I had to drill and use easy outs on... that took a while...

well after that fiasco last night, I got the twin disk clutch mounted this morning (fun fact, the OS geiken does not have the alignment mark on the flywheel so you just sort of put it up and rotate it around until you see all of the bolt holes line up.

Ended up torquing the flywheel bolts by locking the crank by putting a deep socket + breaker bar on the harmonic balancer and having it rest on the frame which kept the pulley from turning as I tightened the flywheel bolts)

Anywho.

Got the tranny on.

(what a mother FN BIT**!!!! wow. like really. no joke. ended up only being able to get the splines to engage just a little, but still had 3/4" left till the bell housing touched the engine block and I had to thread in bolts and tighten them one turn at a time going all the way around to pull the two together.)

after that was done I went through three cans of Gunk brand engine cleaner on the subframe and other parts that had been leaked on and accumulated dirt and grime, and now I have started work on a little something else.

if you know what this is, you should be able to guess what I am about to do.
(knowing the progression of this thread at least, I would hope you could put the two together)

Still no guesses

oh well.

Also got the ring gear on, tranny filled with some Motul, reassembled, and back on the car (what a mother fn PITA! had to use the bolts to slowly pull it on the last 0.4" )

My build. Teaser photos and updates-ht7qhhn.jpg

but at least the clutch is pretty... who is all in favor of someone donating a saphire bell housing so that we can see our gears and clutch move/work?!

(aside from the stupid cost that would run and the weight it would add, it would be pretty cool i think...)

I know I've seen a piece like that one, but I can't bring it up from my muddled brain.

Are the central holes some sort of "venturi"? Perhaps something in the power steering pump?

nope, but it does deal with a petrolium based liquid

It is a adapter plate for the oil cooler. Instead of paying $500 for a front mount oil cooler setup, it will only cost me ~ $220-320 to make one myself.

Are you making the heat exchanger for the oil cooler too?

Why not do some more welding and make a full dry sump?
