I've been adding Torco and running the JB+ at 80%. Here are my thoughts:

1.) The car pulls much harder compared to JB+ at 50% and is a lot of fun especially in 3 and 4 gear. It does't seem to plateau out as much at the higher rpms.

2.) The difference between 80% and 50% is almost the same as between 0% and 50%.

I can't really explain why but I really don't like using the Torco, the car sounds different, the exhaust has a deeper tone, IDK, I'm probably just being paranoid. So I didn't add any more when I refueled with regular 93 octane and turned it back down to 50%.

I also don't have E85 conveniently located so I'm thinking of installing a W/M kit. Running with the dial at 80% now just leaves me wanting more.

I know some fast fast cars that run high boost and do 11, 10, 9's in the 1/4 mile, who use Toro. The increase in sound is from more top end power. Only thing I noticed about Torco, is that it has a saturation limit of 105 octane and it leaves a light orange residue on the tail pipes.

Yes the sound is definately from the extra power. Im using Torco as well on my JCW with the JB+ at 80%. Timing looks great and im seeing 19-20 psi. Should have my bigger intercooler installed next week and im turning up the JB+ to 100% we are having a dyno day down here in Phoenix in march during the upcoming "southwest mini fest". I will post the dyno results then from the JCW.

No, your not.

Most owner's and all manufacturers quote numbers in terms of engine bhp not whp, from my prospective in reality wheel hp and torque is the only numbers that matter. (It's the power on the pavement)

If you dyno a new stock jcw under the same conditions it will whp in the low 190's.

Another dyno result

Not that we need another but I've invested the dyno time as I modded my car so I know what my car's performance is.

Green is car with just CAI.
Red is car with larger Intercooler and exhaust
Blue is with the above mods plus the JB+

The N18 is rated for 181 hp SAE NET - which is NOT at the drive wheels but at the flywheel.

So are the dyno numbers at the wheels or flywheel?

Nevertheless the important numbers are the difference between the runs. So it looks like you gained about 10 hp.

Nevertheless the important numbers are the difference between the runs. So it looks like you gained about 10 hp.
Dyno is reading at the Wheel (WHP) and the torque gain is felt for sure when driving.

Yeah, it looks like you gained 20 ft-lbs. I assume that you have the JB+ at 50%.

All dynos read differently except dynojets, which are relatively uniform anywhere they are used, so only dynojet numbers are useful for internet comparisons. But delta looks great!

They are right, the type of dyno you were on are very very conservative. The smart thing you did was going back to the exact same dyno. The only thing that matters is the difference between the mods. Of course, our egos would love to see huge numbers, but with so many different dynos and operators is makes it tough to compare one to another.

To give you an example my BMW M6 V10 was about 570hp at the crank and my friend dyno numbers on a Dyno Jet were 495whp and I did the Dynamatic (like yours) and I was at 390whp. On the street our cars were dead even.

Now, turn up the dial and get some E85 or race gas in your car and get a downpipe

Octane at the Pump

Enjoying driving my MINI with the JB+ and continue to enjoy the chatter on this thread. Reading all the posts about how to increase octane came to mind when I looked at one of the gas pumps at the Sunoco station I frequent. Thought the readers of this thread might enjoy seeing the octane number on the pump.

@ Terry any chance you could give us N14 guys some love. This time last year you were said that you guys weren't interested in tuning the R56 at all. I like to think that my prodding contributed in part to you guys pursuing the Mini tuning platform. Now, the JB+ has proven to be a success in the mini community and a financial profit for BMS as well.

Every tuner I contacted last year, and many people on this forum said the MINI market was too small and that no tuner cared about a platform that was about to get replaced. We proved them wrong when you brought out the JB+, and people were willing, no, BEGGING to pay full price while the tuner was still in Beta stages. If that doesn't indicate an eager market I don't know what does.

Please consider developing the JB+ for the N14. While we do have the option of flash tunes, the price point of JB+ is unbeatable. A reasonable 20-30hp bump in power is what most people, including myself want, and a JB+ would provide that.

IIRC you guys had a JB on the N20 just a few months after it came out. Surely you can make a piggyback work on the N14. I don't mean to trivialize the difficult task of making a tune work without issues. We know you have the expertise. I am asking you to have the faith that lightening will strike twice and if you produce an N14 JB+, people will buy it!

Never say never. But the N14 is not on our radar currently. The N20 is a very large market motor. We sell around 200 tunes for it per month. We've maybe sold 200 tunes for the N18 since we started. My problem with the N14 is there are already great at home flash tune options out there for it. A secondary issue is it uses different DME connectors (the N18 uses BMW connectors we already stock) making the potential development process much more complicated.

At this time if you're an N14 enthusiast I'd put my effort in to convincing Cobb to continue support. I think that is your best bet. If Cobb would release the map definitions, etc, in to their tuner pro suite we already own I'd be happy to write a flash map using Cobb's interface for you guys so you're not stuck with Alta's stuff as the only option.
