D1 spec offers more flexibility for about half the cost of sprintbooster, but it also occupies your obd port.

Is that a bad thing?

It is less expensive and AJ in Vancouver can get them, so no Hong Kong shipping.

Im no techy so any extra info would be great.
I see they are on revision 3.5 now.

They both do the same thing, change the ramp rate of the throttle. The D spec is cheaper and has a lot more maps. I have the D spec and it has been flawless. I would recommend it.

Also, there is this 3 drive pivot controller, any thoughts to the tech gurus?

You can hardwire it in or use a obd splitter if you want obd access. You can get an obd splitter on ebay for 20.00

I think the D spec is a knock off of the Pivot

Unless you hardwire it.

So the general consensus is its a worthwhile mod? I would be putting it in my 2009 Justa...

Thanks

I think they are the same. It is just cheaper and you have 9 settings

I'm still wondering how it's going to get rid of the lag. From all of the info I have found on the D1, and Sprint Booster.....all they do is tell the computer that now a 20% pedal position will equal a 60% motor throttle position (and so on). How does that get rid of the lag? If you mash the pedal to 100% (WOT)....it's going to max throttle with the D1 just like it would stock. Does the D1 actually make the TIME it takes to respond less?

Could someone take a video clip showing the improvement in pedal position vs engine rpm? I HATE how much of a lag the pedal position has on my MCS...when I tap the pedal to try to match the rpms when down shifting...the engine doesn't even rev. It's almost as if it's got a half-second delay built in.

Could someone take some video showing the response time of the different maps that the D1 booster has?

Thanks!

If it takes you .2 second to push the pedal 20%, you are now getting 60% power in .2 second rather than the previous 20% (using your example, not claiming those as capabilities of the controller). I suspect it's more like you are getting 60% rather than 55%, but even that little bit FEELS much better, and more proportional to what I expect when I step on the trottle.

A quick Google search shows that the D1 Spec throttle controller is popular not only with us MINIacs, but with modders of VW's, Honda Fits, Subaru's, etc.

So is there a specific model for us MINI owners, or is it a universal one for all these different makes and models?

I just want to be sure I'm not ordering one from some guy on eBay who is selling me one for a VW 1.8t engine or something!

There are cables that are specific to the car for which the unit is intended. If you buy a used one, and it was previously installed on something else, you may need to buy the proper wiring and plugs. If it's new, tell the seller what model of car you have, and the unit should include the proper wiring and plugs for your car. It looks like the wiring set that came with mine will also fit a dozen or more different cars, so there is some interchangeability.

Check out Greasey's Garage in Massachusetts. They usually have them in stock and will sell them uninstalled. The price on the web page is an installed price.

I haven't installed my D1 yet, but I believe that all that it does is change the throttle mapping (accelerator pedal to throttle intake opening) and that it will not change the lag. The lag is a side effect of drive by wire, and I don't think that we can ever get rid of that....unfortunately.

Just got around to installing mine. 2013 has set screw at base of pedal. Unscrewed that and pedal popped off. Hooked it all up. No power. Pushed extremely hard on OBD connector and got power. This works as advertised. May even try Eco mode on long distance highway trips. Can also verify that this works on an automatic.

Has anyone tried the D1 Spec on a vehicle with an automatic? I have a 2013 automatic and would love to get rid of the accelerator lag.

Yep the OBDII port only uses 2 wires power and ground. Just cut off the connector and wire it in.

Keeping the old thread alive, I just bought one from ebay. Original offer to one of the vendors at 108AU it was not accepted. $110AU offer (to what I assume is another version of the same vendor) was accepted.

$130.99CAD shipped to Toronto, Canada supposedly (I'll update when it arrives)

I got mine from Greasy's Garage (http://www.greasysgarage.com/). Arrived last Saturday. Works great. Total came to $156.72 delivered.

They only show them installed on their site but just give them a call and they will ship one to you.

Here's a follow up review. I've had the D1 Spec installed for 6 mo now. Still love it. No error codes. Took it out when I went back for service, just because. I run it at SP 4-5 mostly, because if its higher then the shifting is jerky. Sometimes I put it back to "nor" for a while, then back to sport just to feel the difference again. I love this thing! Buy it!
