There is a pic in this thread that shows where it needs to be clipped. Can easily be done with a set of needle nose.

I used a razon knife to shave off the necessary parts. Sorry, no pic, but it's pretty obvious if you compare the male and female parts.

Will I need to plug those red, blue and yellow wires if I'm using the OBD port?

Alright - thanks pmx, almost had it all together then. I thought the pedal was going to be rough but I had that sorted, plugged in and re-assembled within minutes.

It was the OBD plug that didn't feel right to me. It was hard to see and wasn't sure if i seated it right. I probably shouldn't have tackled this at my son's soccer practice and without taking the knee panel down. I ran out of daylight and decided to unplug everything and do it right this weekend.

For reference, once it's plugged in completely, will the display light up with just the key in or does the car have to be running?

Thanks for any help or advice. I kinda figured this out on my own just looking at the wiring diagram. Reading the directions were pretty useless from the install side - I'm hoping the set-up side is easier although looking at those directions looked awful, too.

Dumb question for pmx - when you say turn the switch on, do you mean the ignition or the left switch on the display? From the 'directions' it seems the ignition has to be on... And lastly, will every plug have to be wired up before I will get anything on the display? Thanks in advance.

ignition to "on", but not start.
The unit will be powered off until you turn the ignition key.
I would get everything plugged in before you turn the key, and make sure to wait 10 minutes after you turn the car off before you unhook anything.

Turn car off>wait 10 minutes> install>turn key to "on">callibrate unit per instructions> Start car and test drive>grin ear to ear.

Now those are directions I can understand. Thanks, jay!

Ooooo that's pretty nice. The rest of the install went pretty quick and setting it up was easier than I thought, too. Started at SP6, upped it to SP7 and like it right there for my naturally aspirated little spitfire. I'll save 8 & 9 for emergency situations.

Thanks for the quick tips, guys - really appreciate it. I've now done my own intake and this - not bad for me.

Jay - I'm out at the end of the LIE - Riverhead. And commute to E. Setauket - Monday's ride in will be a little more fun.

There are two different plugs - one plugs into the stock plug (the one that came off the gas pedal) and the other goes to the pedal. Those went on pretty easily for me.

Also, the wiring for the gas pedal came in the smaller box.

I thought I read a post about altering the plug that goes into the OBD port for Gen 1's. But this is a long thread now...

Found that post on page 6. Crap.

sorry if this question was asked before but theres so many mixed reviews and no one states if they have an r53 or r56 or auto or manual. So this does work with an 09 R56 manual MCS?

I have an R53 auto - I also used it in an R53 manual. There are people in this thread who have it in both R56 manuals and auto's. So yes, it should work in an R56 manual MCS

Please, pardon my ignorance, BUT. . . I have an OBD2 reader for the torque app pro. . .if I am to order the aforementioned splitter, remove the current reader, plug IN the splitter and mount the OBD reader in a new spot WILL this device straight up plug and play? Remove the clip from the pedal, clip in the device, reconnect, and connect whatever part of the device into the extra port on the splitter, and I am good to go? Any splicing, or stuff like that, and it's a no go until I get into a position where I can do it.

I am having the ladyfriend do this(provided I buy it), as I am still recovering from surgery, but will not be able to get down that low for at least a year. . . She isn't an idiot, and has been great in helping me with a couple of things, but I just don't want to end up frustrated, with something broken.

Also, bottom line, is this worth throwing on there? It's a manual 2003 R53, just figure I should be getting stuff done to it I have been meaning to, but have been swamped with work/life. I was all about the Sprint Booster until I saw THIS thread. . .

I just can't imagine paying shop labor for something seemingly so simple. If the benefits are worth it, I am into it, besides, I love another lil device on the dash!

The ODB port will be plug and play. You most liklely will need to modify the connector that goes to the gas pedal. Unless you buy a used one that has been modified. There is one in the marketplace, but I don't know if it's still for sale.
Worth it, yes!. Best $120 i've spent in a while on the mini.

Got mine!

After reading this thread, I picked up my D1 on eBay last week Thursday. Got it for $110 + shipping. Not bad. Best part was only took 4 days to ship to Toronto!

Install was straight forward after reading the various tips from the thread (snipping the D1 connector that goes into the pedal, figuring out which wires to splice on the OBD).

The included instructions were a little vague. I used the instructions from the *other* product to show me how to remove the pedal.

Took me longer to get all the wires tidied up and power connector soldered and shrink wrapped, vacuum car.

Went for a drive this morning to try the various modes. SP6 seems to be my sweet spot using Bridgestone RE760 tires. Granted outside temp was 11 degrees C (52 F). SP7 gave me some wheel spin.

Having the option to change profiles is a great feature. I did try Econo just for kicks....haha never do that again.
