Drivetrain RMW's "Guess what's in the box?"
Even though the other day I wondered if I had acheived anything this year I realised we had.
I like to try and acheive as much as I can for as little outlay as I can, bang for the buck.
The two best phrases I've found on racers forums;
Its not how much you spend, but how well you spend it.
dont hate the player, hate the game.

I hope you have more than a UK 1/4mi time and some calculated hp figures to try to sell parts over here.
Yeah, this worked out great considering the Front mount intercooler you were involved with. All that money and ripping out the AC, for no HP gain. Sounds like you are on to some great products there, player.

We will be releasing all the data when it's done
I plan on stomping a few mudholes first

Well you lot daren't go to the dragstrips so we thought we give you something that even you lot can do.
Myth busters ROFLMAO that is a good one Longboard, where are all the performance test from the RMW possee, we never seen anything..........
So 0-60 0-100 30-70 30-130 60-130 where's all the data
All the money you've spent on the cars and seeing as you're all track junkies you must all at least have a performance box. I know Gnaster has.

On a serious note that is Chris nearest the camera who does the tuning
I forgot to mention that he has owned the rolling road for 8 yrs and worked at Cosworth for 3 yrs in the engine dyno rooms tuning and testing engines one of the last ones he had the pleasure off testing was the R56.

Jesus, I've never seen so many of these in one place.... I can see why Jan went into the Marines first so he could train you all up in the art of:

The facts are simple:
Dyno - 236.8 WHP
1/4 Mile Santa Pod
60ft: 2.3694
330ft: 6.0222
1/8 MPH: 83.59
1/8 ET: 11.4771
1/4 Mile ET: 13.6859
1/4 Mile MPH: 105.60
VBox Performance Testing
0-60: 5.6 seconds
0-100: 12.6 seconds
30-70: 3.8 seconds
60-130: 13.7 seconds
It's simple -
First - buy RMW parts
Second - fit RMW parts
Third - test RMW parts on road, track and strip
Fourth - Produce results for everyone to see, suddenly Jan has lots of orders from the UK.
Here is my spec:
- RMW Head
- RMW 440c Injectors
- 1320 Camshaft
- GRS Front Mount
- 1320 Custom Remap
- JCW CAI (flap removed)
- Alta V2 17% Pulley
- Janspeed Manifold
- Milltek Exhaust
- NGK Spark Plugs
- RMW Oil Sump Baffle
- Cross Coilover Suspension
- Helix Control Arms
- AP Racing Brakes
- Stock Clutch (On the car since new)
- No Diff
- Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 Alloys
- Yokohama Parada Spec II Tyres (205/40/17)
- Tesco 99 Fuel (No additives or NOS)
- Std OEM Oil and Fluids
- Halo Headlights
- Interior Stripped
- M7 Grills
Now do you think if I could get 260 WHP out of that spec (FMIC or not) that I'd sit here and keep it quiet...? And for anyone that comes back and say's it's the exhaust holding it back or it's because Jan didn't tune it... well I've tried 4 combinations of manifold and exhaust and it gave no more power... the other car I helped build to the same spec tried the RMW race exhaust and it made less power. And when Jan tuned my car remotely, it lost 7 lbs ft of torque.
So guys, carry on tapping away giving it the big cheese... you're only kidding yourselves at the end of the day. But to then knock those who actually go out there and test these products just shows what you guys are all about. Numbers on a dyno are great and I love them... but they mean nothing unless you can back them up in the real world.
It's time to prove it or STFU!

Yeah, this worked out great considering the Front mount intercooler you were involved with. All that money and ripping out the AC, for no HP gain. Sounds like you are on to some great products there, player.

Tell me Jan which would you rather have 50-60f less or 33 horsepower more ?

The air-con was ripped out 6 months ago to save weight... the FMIC cost $1200 at todays rate and gives average working day to day temps of 2-3C above ambient... even on the dyno at 12C ambient it has yet to go over 34C. So say what you like... it does exactly what I want it to do, namely reduce temps and so far on the road has proved the car is no slower. Drag strip will prove that next year though.
It's simple - TMIC works great in winter - FMIC works great all year round. But carry on knocking things you've never even tried yourself.

Ambient temps... you make more power with cars running my spec over there in 80-90F heat on the dyno than we do in 30F temps... yet on the road your cars make less because of the heat where ours will be quicker?!?
So the question is Jan... are you serious or just a fool?
Actually Paul had nothing to do with the FMIC... he told me it would lose BHP as it would lose boost... it was me that wanted to try it because I was happy to lose some BHP, but have it all the time instead of having huge BHP just in the winter time. Even Jan eludes to the effect of high temps on the power of these cars.

I started in 4th gear so do you really think starting before 70 mph is going to make any difference? Well I'll go out and do it again at 70 mph tonight just to back up your theory myth busters style for your learned friend above.

And yes, it is your exhaust and your tuner. Making comments like "you don't need the TVS because you already have cool inlet temps" just shows his lack of knowledge in engine systems despite what his CV is.
Bigshow strange that you were praising Jan a couple months ago. What happened?
Car: Mini Cooper S
Build date: Jan 2003
Mileage: 42k
Previous results (27/02/08) with the following mods:
Alta V2 15% Pulley
GRS Intercooler
NGK Spark Plugs
Alta V2 CAI
Janspeed Manifold
Milltek Cat-Back
Superchips map
Power: 239.9 bhp @ 7,177 rpm
Torque: 178.9 lbs ft @ 6,231 rpm
Results yesterday (31/03/08) with the following additions:
RMW Head
Alta V2 17% Pulley
1320 Camshaft
380cc Injectors
Power: 281.1 bhp @ 7,199 rpm
Torque: 210.6 lbs ft @ 6,532 rpm
Gains
Power: 41.2 bhp
Torque: 31.7 lbs ft
These figures are preliminary because the 440cc injectors can’t go on the car until RMW can remap it which will be happening soon.
By way of comparison the standard MCS map ran:
Power: 275.1 bhp @ 6,947 rpm
Torque: 209.3 lbs ft @ 6,679 rpm
Comments
The RMW mods have given fantastic gains (118 bhp over stock!!), however, with the 380cc injectors the car is running a bit lean at the top end which was expected so both Paul and I are keen to get the 440’s fitted and the custom RMW remap installed before it goes anywhere near the track.
Dyno Graph attached.
A huge ‘thank-you’ to Paul at 1320Autos and Jan at RMW for all their advice, support and hard work. There is still more to do but they have given me fantastic gains so far for little £’s compared to some competitor packages out there, the weak dollar has helped a bit too mind you, but these results are unmatched by other M45 tuners in the UK so even the preliminary results have proved what can be achieved, namely the most powerful M45 car in the UK.

What I can't understand and what no-one on here has yet explained is why 4 RMW cars in the UK can't make more than 286 bhp even when using the RMW race header/exhaust!
You've seen my spec, you've seen my 1/4 mile times and Vbox testing but why is it that the RMW cars in the US are running soo much BHP, yet according to the video I've seen of the 70-110mph are so slow!
So the simple question is... how can the same spec cars make different power to the tune an extra 30+ WHP? Therefore, all you guys need to do is instead of just driving it on and off the dyno or popping to Starbucks, just find a nice strecth of blacktop and do some real world performance tests or better yet get it on the drag strip!
