This is even funnier than the Palo Uber threads, however unintentional it may be.

I'd kinda like to hear Randy Webb chime in here about the product and how it worked on his "mule". We all know he's an excellent driver and that the car was set up well, but when a competitor challenges with track time, I guess it could be noted that this company has had some success.

When I saw the price I nearly pooped. When he explained that it replaces the intake manifold I guess I understood more. What does a manifold cost? I think I read that they'd port it to match a performance head.

No clue if this makes sense, but if you had a ton of money to put into your Mini, would it make sense to have a port-matched intake manfiold, head, and header? Then would it be a bonus to have a more effective aftercooler connected to all of it? I'll defer to the experts here.

This brings me back to Randy Webb - I'd like to know the specifics of his setup, why he went with it, and what his measured results/gains/outcomes of using the product were.

I don't think anybody is denying the efficacy, the build quality, etc. It's the price and the stellar customer service that's debatable.

I like the idea off it because it meant I had a solution to put 4 nitrous nozzles somewhere and be able to get to them. But unfortunatley not at that price.

But if you want to ship one over for R&D (free of course) then.....................

The NAM community is a great place to find out what Mini owners think of a part and if its worth the money.

As a innocent bystander on yet another thread going into the dumps, I would like to respond to your post. You have to remember that once you do all the " easy bolt on mods " to these cars "step one" the next level of mods "step two" is alot more expensive per Hp. What if you already have a JCW and you still want more power, this is a way to do that. In a somewhat defense of Gintani, I have none of their parts BTW, I have seen GP IC's selling in here for upwards of $800., not cheap either, and I am not sure but I wouldn't think bolting on a GP IC would produce 14 HP on a stock car. So in closing, once you get past the easy mods, added Hp is very expensive no matter what you do.

This is true, this part will be going on cars probably far and few between, but I'm sure they expected that.

Valid point - this will go on cars whose members have already joined the 10,000 club.

to ask again: do the dyno gains you show reflect just your intercooler OR your intercoller and the software you mention above?

14hp minimum gain on the aftercooler system on a bone stock vehicle. There is no software involved to achieve this gain. There is an additional gain produced from software but its another thread we dont want the confusion

It's a cool looking piece, but yeah that's some serious money. Anyway it's nice to have the option out there.

true but its all in perspective...800 bucks for a GP IC...still leaves me with 1600 bucks left to play with....and for that amount thats a tune and a few other suspension or other goodies...hell that can either cover or be a down payment on a upgraded head!

as some others have said it looks great but paying 2400 bucks for what is a over developed FMIC is a bit more than just steep....not to mention coming in and basically jumping all over jan and others is not the best way to introduce yourself....when Gintani proves themselves to the community then ill give them praise....

When you compare apples to oranges it looks overdeveloped.
When comparing other w2a units out there, There isnt anything to compare.

Could you please walk us through the routine maintenance for this aftercooler/intake manifold?

What's the fluid in the unit? Water/water wetter solution or other?

Jeremy

How long has Ginatni been in business? Could you give us a quick rundown of who's involved and what their backgrounds are? It's always interesting to see the diverse personalities involved in modding cars.

Drop the price to $1500, then i see this thing selling very well.
But as others have pointed out the current price point is not worth the mod.

Maintainence is easy in fact a solution of water wetter and every now and then checking the reservoir. The system comes with custom thermoflex hoses and the water lines are aeroquip with AN fittings pre installed. High grade hoses when installed correctly will last a very very long time.

Its not the gain that makes this product its the ability to keep intake tempurates cool.

i would've finned it as well. the scoops already there and there's a straight shot to the cooler for air . some finning would only help . no way to have plumbed the bypass more to the center like the s/c outlet? most driving is on vacuum and the bypass is so freakin' far to the right . no wonder # 4 burns lean .

Thanks for the quick response. So in the fall you flush system and run Water/water wetter with antifreeze solution then in the spring flush again and run straigth Water/water wetter solution?

How long will the heat exchanger last? 5-10 years I hope!

Its a quality built unit and it is not a wearing part just like your factory cooler. As long as the unit isnt damaged, the heat exchanger will last the life span of your Mini.

You can use a bit of antifreeze in the winter to prevent freezing however to achieve optimum results water/wetter solution is best.

I linked to redline where the experts explain further in detail about this very subject.
