Gintani Aftercooler Program

Hello,

We are excited to finally be a part of the NAM community. I remember when we bought our Cooper S when it first released and before you know it we were dissecting and testing our performance modifications. It stood out to us heat was our problem. Looking back we tried everything we could think of to remedy the problems of the factory heat soaked intercooler. Bigger cores, scoops, even spraying but all this was simply a band aid. I remember that the only time that our Mini was fast was either early morning or really cold weather. The Coopers stock intercooled system was just not going to be enough.

We decided to pursue the intercooler problem and instead of simple gadgets we redesigned the entire intercooled system. We are proud to introduce after 4 years of testing and refinement the release of our after-cooler program for the Mini Cooper S.

Testing has proved Gintani after-cooler system runs at 100-130 temperature at all times compare that to factory intake temperatures of over 250 degrees Fahrenheit, hot! Gintani tested and has seen a constant boost efficiency maintained from the factory supercharger. Comparing the factory intercooler, which in tests show a loss of up to 3 psi due to the factory plumbing and intercooler’s core.

We performed our horsepower testing on a Dynojet 248C testing for the stock Mini Cooper S with the factory intercooler system.
Testing showed the stock Mini made cold 158hp and 139 ft-lbs. of tq. Warm the stock Mini made 152 hp and 136 ft-lbs of tq. Even after 3 runs the stock intercooler heat-soaking began to sink in. It started loosing power.

We went back to our shop and installed one of our after-cooler systems right out of the box. After it was installed we went back to the dyno. These runs were performed with true world testing implied. We didn’t run ice or pack the cooler with dry ice to chill down the manifold funny thing was we were stuck in traffic the whole way to the dyno.

On a bone stock vehicle we made 14 hp and 6 lbs of torque. While these numbers are averages, I have also included a dyno of a heat soaked mini and compare it to our after-cooler. Also keep in mind the Mini is stock and horsepower increases on performance modifications.

Theres much more to this system than its intercooling function. The system provides you with a more response, more power and torque from start to redline, reduced IAT, consistant boost, and may cause loud supercharger whine!!!

Gintani After-Cooler System includes the following:

Standard Version Red/Black
  • Custom Powder-coated Intake manifold with built in air-to-liquid core
  • Custom Cast Supercharger discharge manifold
  • Custom Front-mount heat exchanger1
  • Bosch Water pump with complete wiring harness
  • CNC Bypass valve and radiator adapter and assembly
  • All fittings, hoses, clamps and boots are supplied
  • Illustrated installation manual for easy installation
  • Professional product support for all your questions
  • Install time between 8-16 hours
Customized Colors, Ported, and race heat exchanger are available at extra cost. Installation of the front mount heat exchanger may require slight trimming of the the Cooper S bumper.

We will be glad to answer any questions regarding the after-cooler. As a special introductory offer for NAM Members only the first ten (10) after-coolers Gintani will be offering a special discounted price of 2495.00!!!!

+2 for more photos of installed aftercooler.

And don't you need more than one number to make an average? Just kidding-looks good!

Goodness that's expensive.

What does the intake manifold look like? I'd like to see some comparable IAT dyno's between stock and Gintani to show effectiveness of the intake manifold.

How big is the coolant reservoir? Has this been tested on the Dragon, home of the heat-soaked intercooler?

We will be uploading that data soon on our web page. Thank you for the advice. Capacity is 1.6 gallons for the entire system.

Is the port shape at the face of the intake (where it meets the head) different from stock?

Thanks for the inquiry the Standard version of the aftercooler is indeed the same port dimensions as the stock intake manifold. We do offer a custom ported manifold as well.

We are also in final development stages of the Gintani Cnc ported head. This is in its last testing stages soon to be offered as an upgrade to the aftercooler.

Thanks Mark for the Welcome

Absolutely, Randy Webb ran this system on his test mule.
Also a few Minis here on NAM run this system on 250+ HP like Danny from MiniCorsa and Recoop.

We are also currently finishing up Johans' Cooper S which has a built engine and and Gintani Aftercooler. We will also run this system on our turbocharged widebody development car which will be producing around 450 to 500hp!!!!!Stay tuned on this one.

Before and after dyno sheets on a JCW or a car with basic mods would be useful. Anyone spending 3k for an intercooler probably already has a pulley. I would expect the gains to be much bigger.

I started a thread in June 2005 about the Gintani aftercooler system that had been installed on my car: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...hlight=Gintani

At that time I posted pictures of the installed system: http://community.webshots.com/album/368940551GGlGGd

Since then, there have been some modifications by the manufacturer to the hoses, clamps, coolant pump, and some of the fittings. In a few months it will be 3 years that I have had this aftercooler, and I can say that I am most pleased.

What kind of core are you using on your unit? It is a cool looking piece. Do you have pics of the full kit?

Oh, Danny is using the RMW Laminova water to air intercooler.

Although we cant satisfy every testing scenario such as a pair of JCW minis we have done alot of testing of our product.

Also please read thoroughly as i explained the test mini is completely bone stock. Please make no assumptions im here to answer any questions that havent been answered

Also Danny posted his 254 run on the Gintani Cooler. Laminova was later installed...

I will be posting the picture of the entire kit in the group buy section tommorrow. The cores are custom made from tubonetics specifically for our application.

Hey Jan I have not talked to you in a while ive been busy lately tuning. Do you have the live tuning yet . Just in case you forgot what was posted I have attached the links as well also take note that on page 1 you completely forget to mention the aftercooler on the vehicle in the modifications list yet on page 2 Danny reminds everyone that his GINTANI AFTERCOOLER IS STILL ON BUT HAS MODIFICATIONS ALSO KNOW AS PORTING.

I have also attached other threads for your enjoyment

i am quite interested in the details of your tuning program, so you guys actually take my ECU and tune it from there based on my car's mods? cuze i happen to live about 5000 miles away so driving there is an impossiblity for me (not impossible, just no time)... how does it all work?
