Well, they DID move this thread to the "Formerly good threads now owned by MINI traitors" forum. So traffic is down a bit.

well it's not my fault MINI can't build reliable cars. if the a/c
was working on my MCS, i wouldve kept it as my dd.

I got packages today! One from DP and one from Richard. Everything's still in the boxes though cuz I won't be able to wash Geoffrey until the weekend or maybe next week..

Got Geoffrey back on Monday afternoon. The problem was accident-related. One of the relay wires to the fuel pump got disconnected due to the body shop not tightening one of the bolts, so not a dead fuel pump, just wiring issues. Dealership ended up fixing it for no charge (yay! ) but they gave Geoffrey a bath cuz they said he was really really filthy (boo! ).

Just found out on the vdrums forum that folks are using 303 Protectant on their rubber cymbals and drum rims... so there's some more auto/instrument detailing crossover...

motored my G this am.... was 74F when i left and by the time i got back it was over 84F. and pretty humid. this is our indian summer.

came back, quickly SpeedShined the front end and spot SprayOn waxed to remove berry jam... and dusted the car, WindowCleaned the glass. looks great. even with the fan in the garage it was still plenty HOT.

im taking a break from composing music and just practice playing this month on the VPiano so enjoying my car. in no time motoring season will be over for me (snow) so kinda want to get the last 10-12 drives in there before then.

The shop giveth and the shop taketh away. Guess where Geoffrey is?

SES light came on Saturday morning. Dropped him off at SB MINI about an hour ago. *sigh*

At least I have a lil Clubman to play with.. and it's actually kinda fun to drive.

yah, the fun of MINI ownership... hope it doesn't get old for you soon.

you might want to invest $60 and get a OBD2 scanner and just scan by yourself to see if it's a bozo problem or a real problem. i found out quickly that it's almost a requirement if you own euro cars.

Is there a steep learning curve to the scanner? Second question, if I get results, say, bad ones, will the dealership know what they mean?

Nothing is wrong with my MINIs atm, just thinking this might be nice to have, but not sure if it's worth it with the 6 year warranty.

Very shallow learning curve - most are plug in, turn on and hit a button or two... easy. I have THREE code readers... but I'm Blimey.

Yah, as blimey mentioned its usually turn off car, plug in OBD2 scanner, turn key to on position (but don't start the engine), hit "READ" button on the scanner and a few seconds later it will list the DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) if any.

Check to see if its some thing simple like loose gas cap or usually on R53's front O2 sensor bank1 errors which triggers on random when your engine oil gets old for some reason, etc etc.

Then you can choose to keep the code by turning off your key, or hit "Erase" and walla, your codes are gone.

Usually I erase the code and if the same code keeps coming on 2-3x within a short period of time (like within a few days) I take the car in.

Real easy to use.

And yes, your dealer will know what the codes mean, so if you plan on taking the car in, don't erase the code.

blimey- i ordered this portable recorder yesterday... im going to use it to practice some passages by ear. you record (or dump a file into it via USB), loop a passage and can slow down the tempo without altering pitch.

my keyboards can do the same, but i want to use it along side my VPiano. cant wait to give it a shot. i dont play any covers but there are some chord progressions i want to learn so this should make it convenient for me.

i should have it tomorrow.

Thanks, Ken... still tired and achey, but I'll live.

Seriously considering selling the convertible because taking care of all three MINIs is getting to be too much given my bad back.

Yep, been skimming through the thread and through the board and you are still cool and others, not so much.

so did you have surgery done or seeing the chiro?

honestly i dont know how you're doing it even right now keeping 3 MINI's in top shape like yours + keeping up with the Infiniti.

we can understand if you need to slow down a bit....well i can for sure cause one of the reasons why i sold my R53 was because i was getting a tad tired keeping 4 cars running in good shape...and that was only 2 cars in great shape and 2 cars in ordinary folks great shape (like a grade C- for a detailer. )

having only one hobby car is nice and relaxing.

No chiro... but more PT (had six weeks of it this time last year) including cervical traction (not fun) and some other torture.

Yeah, it's a chore keeping up with all four vehicles, althought the SUV gets neglected sometimes. Still, the three MINIs, considering how OCD I am about them, is just too much. And not taking good care of them is not an option... it's just not in my nature, as you know.

Yeah, you can relate to what it's like trying to take care of that many vehicles.

Looks like it'll be back to CR & PW for me. We'll miss that convertible but my back will appreciate it.

dang, sounds painful.

yah, i think i know wat you. it's like i rather not have the car if i can't keep it in top shape. that's how i feel about my hobby cars. it's all or nothing.

now as far as dd's... hahaha. as long as it looks decent and works well i dont really care.

Chris... you COULD to to a psychologist for some OCD counseling. Then you could keep the cabrio and just let all three cars be a *little* less clean.

I'm just sayin.

I've had some priority adjustments here lately and Blimey isn't as clean as he used to be. But still better than 98% of the cars he parts around... I have to let that be "good enough" for a while...

ken - nice recorder - very cool.

We got the v-drums setup last night and are having a BLAST. My kids love'm, I love'm, and my wife doesn't hate'm. I gotta build a tennis ball noise isolation platform soon and all will be well.

Also gotta go today and get a USB-MIDI cable so I can use some interface software on a laptop between the drumkit and the WII Guitar Hero controller so I can make that work... playing GH with real drums is gonna ROCK.

blimey- ahhh, you got the v-drums set up! congrats. your wife doesn't "hate em" huh? well that's actually very important. MIDI is great. that interface has been around for a long time.... like since 1983-4. i too use the USB based interface. mine's by MOTU. it's a 128ch version. i dont need it perse because the keyboards can accept USB directly but im just familiar with this old skool setup so using it.

hey, i got my recorder yesterday myself and tried it out. already figured out about 16 bars worth of jazz piano passages i wanted to learn. very easy to use.
i like the on-the-fly loop in/out function and the VSA (slowing down tempo without altering pictch).
