My GPS vote is for the Tom Tom. I have owned two of the basic Tom Tom units and every Christmas/New year season they usually drop the price $50, so the entry level model is around $100. I have found them to be generally very reliable. They may not have some of the detail listings of the Garmins, but if you have an address no problem. We just drove from MI to FL with ours and it was very useful to have on the trip. We use it around town frequently and I use it for business travel.

For the $$ it can't be beat!

Miniola - Thanks for the extra beers... I think we are going to need them! Still hanging in there for Skillet, but hopes are waning - just a tad!

Back to the waiting! 3:21 EST and waiting......

Big Norm - where have you been hiding??

I am a huge fan of the Garmin, my original one was the street pilot and it is like 4 years old. Still going strong --except the cable wiring is pretty much on it's last threads. Still works though. Now I have the Nuvi 360 in Sloopy and I sure like the convenience of it installed without the cables showing. It is so neat and,,, well so neat.
Since I have only had Garmins I guess I thought all nav systems took you the long way once in a while, I think if you set the routes to the fastest it will take you out of your way to find the highways and interstates... but overall I love it. It shows me the names of upcoming streets- no more peering in the dark to try to read a sign that is bent or faded. Or non existent.
Whatever brand you choose, I simply cannot imagine not having one and hope I always can. ( have one)
Oh, it is 4:33 pm here.....on Sunday..... I will keep checking back...... nuff said.

Gemgirl,,,YES!! Sloopy is fun to drive!! We took her today for more errands. My husband was laughing because I would park her in" the back 40" to keep her safe.
Since it was a warmer day I moved things out of the other vehicle and got Sloopy all situated. She actually holds a good bit of stuff... loving that compartment in the boot.
How many of you MINI/mini owners lose them in parking lots,,, we were shocked at how she disappeared in those lots...

Oh! And thanks to all of you for your wonderful compliments,,, it is nice when people "coo" over my baby...

Mine doesn't get lost at all; it's usually parked in a rather prominent position!!

Both of our MINIs are in one parking spot (since they only give us one spot).

Norm, that looks like a terrific trade, is it a '51 Fordoor? (Once had a '53).

I like the Garmin, mine has served me well for auto and marine for over six years:

Click HERE for large version of above photo. This was taken at the Fairchild
Garden Pit Stop on the MTTS. I especially like Garmin's Support and to use
their MapSource Program to UpLoad and DownLoad from the GPS V.

Good site for pre-purchase GPS information at GpsPassion Forums.

So Apple promised Skillet photos this weekend.. Hope it happens.

A new law that took effect here in CA on Jan. 1 says that window-mounted devices such as GPS have to be sin a specific area on the left or right sides of the front window. No more center mounting. I wonder if that applies to radar detectors as well?

I have a magellan, it's a POS, but it works for what I need it for, which is generally locating places I have never been before. It's also handy for out of town driving, but I don't do that as much.

I looked into the garmin nuvi and I really liked the unit. I wish I'd spent my money there, and will when/if my magellan dies.

I just checked online, and it appears that it is illegal to window-mount a radar detector anywhere on the front window. That would be a sucky thing to be pulled over and/or ticketed for!

I have been lurking following this.. but what is the reason for the delay? in the pictures? in the car being taken? I feel so lost.. yet I have been trying to stay on the yellow brick road!
