Okay, okay,,, here I am. first off all the paperwork took longer than expected. Otto's was swamped today with deliveries (14!!). But overall it went very smoothly. I will try to add a picture here... we drove around and enjoyed some back roads....stopped at a couple of stores, ate at Hank's..... a nice diner in the area and now we are home!!
Sloopy is wonderful, exactly as I wanted her and she handles like a dream.

again, you guys really make me laugh,,,, sorry I kept you all waiting,, I know you are all raw from waiting for photos...
Now we are going out to see how her fog lights look at night and see how she handles in the dark... yes, totally in love with Sloopy.

B.E.A.UTIFUL Cabwy Congratulations. You removed the "no pictures of adopted cars" curse on this thread. Maybe my pictures will come through now.

Nice Clubby, any plans for more checkers?

A friend of mine from work saw this at a CVS and got it for me as a late Christmas present. He added the checkers himself.

Very nice! Very nice! So I figured you'd be out runnin' the roads! Honestly, how could you not? If you just came straight home after the dealership just to post I would have thought you were seriously disturbed! So... good thing you didn't. BTW- looks like the dancing lemurs match perfectly!

But where's the snow???

Thanks, CC!! I tell you, I am really enjoying Sloopy, she looks better in person, and yes, I must confess that I have longingly looked at other checkered options,,, time will tell. And your QVC MINI is awesome!!

Miniola,,, snow?? Did you think we had some snow up here??? Nope, just cold and damp, I thought it felt colder than 30 degrees today.
It was cold enough for my new Clubby to give me that symbol showing a freeze warning?
And,, um,,, should I send a search party out for Gemgirl? I hope she didn't go out searching for me and get lost

CONGRATULATIONS cabwy she is a Beaut!!

Got a ? for everybody...Hubby and I are planning a trip to Yellowstone to celebrate our 10th Anniversary (03/10), I've heard you guys talking about the Garmin's and have always wanted one. My phone does NAV, but it takes a bit to load and I don't know how it will do on a long trip, 869 Miles from Vancouver, WA to Yellowstone, WY. Would like to know pros and cons of the units you all have.

Thanks in advance!!

Sorry if this is off-topic!!

I like the factory NAV I have. Probably costs too much to add now though.

Minicooperwill I didn't like what it did to the look of the interior, so we opted not to get it.

The Garmin Nuvi 650 works well if you have it set properly. Mine led me about 12 miles back in the sticks to a friggin DIRT ROAD when I was returning to Fontana from TN during MOTD last year. This year while on the way to visit my brother in Delray Beach FL I set it to take me to the Florida Turnpike via Yeehaw Junction and the SOB led me to I-4 through ORLANDO! I'm sure that I did something wrong in the settings both times. What I'm getting at is, use a LOT of common sense when using a GPS. They can't program common sense into the damn things...

The Garmin Nuvis are very good - you can update the software through your computer, which is a plus over the DVD-driven embedded nav in the '07 models (I have one of those, too.) I take mine traveling on business and it's helped quite a bit. AND here's the website where you can upload your custom colored MINI icon!!

The wife and I just returned from a two week trip throughout Florida. I used to live there so I had a pretty good idea where I was going, but used the GPS to give me pointers on how to get to friends houses. Only once or twice did I find it in error due to local road construction changes. No big deal.

I have a Magellan Maestro 4250. It worked quite well for us on our trip. I made a custom mount that attached to the back of the tachometer and makes it convenient to use for both the driver and passenger. I'll try to post it in the appropriate forum later.

Wow Cabwy, I'm back, Sloopy is beautiful!!! just Beautiful!!! Love the silver stripes! nice touch...
Ugh, i thought i would never get back to see the pix... we want more!! Yesterday was a nice day so we took a road trip (in jeep ) to Cabela's to turn in a gift card. Stopped for dinner up then and didn't return home until late.

Miniola, i live farther up north from cabwy and yes we did have snow not much but the following couple days the sun came out and finally gone. so far about 4 storms and glad that Nugget is in the garage.. can't wait for spring to open the top!

RJkimbell - My hubby just got a Magellan Maestro 4210 Nav system from Santa. we pretty happy with it but as Warped1966 said it is common sense to program the address, one small mistake could mean miles of driving out of your way. Last night we used it and the way we would have come home would take well over an hour, but trusting the unit, it took us back roads we never knew and got home in 38 minutes, now i love the thing!

Big Norm- You're still here!

I like the portable GPS systems best since we can't always drive the Cooper. The first one we had was a TOM TOM- in September '07 we used it to drive from Florida to Maine and back. It worked really well! I don't remember too many issues with it putting us on any wrong roads (just some places that weren't updated on the map program made it look like we were flying in mid-air)... but it was fun.

This past fall we exchanged the TOM TOM because the wire cable connection broke and we had the warranty from the store for replacement. The husband had heard about the Garmin and so we got that one instead. Then we went on our road trip to NC area this past October and although the MINI icon was cool, it seemed like we had more issues with it wanting to put us on the wrong roads. I don't know... it seemed a little less user friendly than the TOM TOM but... I was driving. I just know that the husband kept crabbing about it over there in the passenger's seat. Could just be operator error... but like I said, the other seemed more user friendly. We used the British lady voice (Jane?) and so we had to get used to the "motorway"... but it was all good. Maybe we need to break this one and go back to the TOM TOM?!?

As for snow... yeah I thought there was snow everywhere up there north of the Mason-Dixon Line (where is that anyway?) HA! just showed my Yankee blood.

It's after 3:00pm- Sunday- last day of THIS weekend.

AS FOR BEER: I just bought another 100 for the countdown... here they are. Have fun.
