Mini Takes The States!!!
Mini Takes The States!!!
Just returned from the Miami weekend of MTTS
What a fabulous weekend of MINI Fun and it
looked like 200 MINI’s (20 Classics) showed up.
MINI-USA and Minis of Miami really did it all perfectly,
from leading the Movie with a Club Video to having the Miami Police CLOSING Biscayne Blvd,
Brickell Ave ALL THE WAY through Downtown Miami to S. Miami Hwy.
(If you have the Garmin MapSource Program on your PC,
Download the "MTTS tracks.txt" attached below to desktop,
rename it MTTS tracks.gdb and you can open the RALLY track files.)
MINI-USA provided a fleet of new Clubmen and Convertibles (all Supers)
with Sticks or Autos for anyone over eighteen with a drivers license
to run (as often as you wanted, with up to three friends along) through
a Gymkhana Course laid out between the Mahogany trees across from Homestead Speedway.
I snapped the Photo below while ‘suiting-up’ for the Go-Cart adventure
(tip; they did not care about Driver License, but no Flip-Flops,
she was lucky to borrow shoes as they would not allow flip-flops),
could not believe that MINI-USA just turned you loose without an ‘instructor’
(they said that a Clubman was damaged by someone who had “never drove a stick before”)
You can also see a guy resetting the cones and there was a LOT of Rubber left on that track!

I would have gone but showing up in a VW Jetta loaner car probably wouldn't have been appropriate since my '08 MCSa is currently at the dealership for warranty repairs.
Glad you had a great time and thank you for posting the pic.
I will definitely make the next one should they have MTTS in Miami next year though.

As you saw with that one pix I attached, photography is not my strong suit.
Here is one LINK and he has some nice video as well. Must be many others.
Here is a Friday night shot showing how much MINI's have grown from Classic.
Second pix (flash lights side markers) showing beautiful skyline of 'Port of Miami'
Third shot is on Biscayne Blvd showing the Motorcycle Policeman guarding an intersection
(Red lights were ignored) and you can see a second Motorcycle Cop racing to open next intersection for us,
they just kept rotating ahead for the MINI Parade.
100 in front of us and another 100 behind; it was obvious that Miami Police had no idea How MANY! MINI's they had to deal with
and before Brickle Avenue on over the Miami River and on down to Peacock Park, (Coconut Grove)
they had doubled us into two lines abreast, what a great ride it was!!!

Was great. Hope everyone had a good time in our backyard.
Michelle Branch was awesome as were all the bands. Had a great time meeting everyone. Hope the dealers give a good discount on the vehicles used in the test drives

Got my car back Monday late afternoon but MTTS in Miami was already over Sunday.I told my MA that I will go to the one next year but he said it takes place every 2 years. So I am kinda bummed over that.

They even hired a helicopter and place someone to take photos in it for all of us.

Excellent write-up of the rally, you captured the thrill of it. And free food, always a plus. We're heading up to Boston for MTTS Thursday evening, will hit Plymouth Plantation on Friday and then check in and do the go-karts at F1. Can't wait to participate in Saturday's rally from Pier 4.
Nice colour MINI you have there, by the way.

We did spot MINI's headed in the wrong direction every so often and we wondered if those MINI's knew of the MTTS event.
Here are a few of my shots from Saturday. My wife autocrossing (something I never thought I'd see!), a fantastic Mini traffic jam, and the rest are some beautiful classics.
