I turned around and listed it on AutoTrader.com for $500 above the high number in the Private Seller Kelly Blue Book Listing (it was in very good shape w/low miles.) At the same time I put a posting on the local Mini Owner's Club forum in the For Sale section. Two parties were quite interested in it through the Metroplex Mini Club and I ended up selling it to the second party - I didn't even need to have it listed on AutoTrader.com, if I had only known.... I did get quite a bit of interest through the AutoTrader listing and am confident I could have sold it through that service if I hadn't had the success I had with the local owner's Club.

Best of Luck!

I had a depressing day trying to sell my SUV - went to a couple of Toyota dealers (it's a 4runner) to sell outright. Ouch. Went to Carmax, where everyone I talked to says that they are more generous than other dealers - wrong! I tried to stop by to see if my MA could give me an appraisal - she wasn't in this weekend , and the dealer doesn/t like to "waste their time" with used car valuations before the contact is being written up. I guess I will need to make a full court press to sell private. Any tips?
Same boat.. carmax offered 2k less than bluebook because I didn't have stock wheels... go figure. I went home and re-upped on Craig'sList with a MUCH lower price (basically put in my pay off amount) had 2 call immediately who both asked to come see it Sunday... neither showed

Congrats WyNG on being able to pick up your MINI tomorrow. Too bad it couldn't have been earlier but at least your guests get to see it tomorrow before they leave.

Sorry to hear about your paint problem AggieMini. How frustrating!
Lisa, you might want to change Milo's oil sooner than 10,000. Read the posts in the Beneath the Bonnet forum. I'm changing Flo's oil around 1500 (after the break-in period) and again around 5,000. I know this will be on my nickel, but I think it's cheap insurance for a well-maintained engine. As for the waxing question. Some people wax their Minis upon receipt. I'm not sure I'll be doing that, but I will use the ICE detailing spray after washing Flo. If it ever quits raining.

I also was disappointed with CarMax. I took Ollie (1995 Volvo 850 wagon) to CarMax because I too was under the impression they would offer a fair price. Ollie had 78,000 miles and was in excellent condition. They insulted me by offering $2000 and telling me that Ollie was just an old car that they couldn't even put on their front lot. Heck, he didn't even smell old. Anyways, I sold him to the first person to come look at him and drive him. They gave me the $3500 I wanted w/o any negotiating. I still had the original window sticker and about 95% of my maintenance records. The buyers were extremely happy as was I.

ICE Detailing Spray, huh...

Is that in the ICE wax family you can find at WalMart or where??? I haven't purchased car care stuff...mostly because I am overwhelmed and not sure which to use. What do you like/think?

Thanks for advice.

Estimated Delivery date doesn't show until after it's cleared the VDC. If there is line for estimated delivery date it hasn't gone through the VDC. Keep checking, it will show up.

Aggie,
Yes, It's Turtle Wax ICE detailing spray. You can get it just about any place that sells car care products. I can't remember exactly where I got mine (I think I got it at Pep Boys), but I've seen it at the Super Wal Mart near me. I've used it on the black Volvo after washing/drying. Great stuff. Just spritz a little on and buff it dry with a MF towel. It doesn't leave white streaks on the black plastic trim. It won't take the place of a polish or wax, but it's great for adding a shine to a car with a good finish. Should be great on our new Minis. I'm not a guru on this detailing bit. I've just always hand washed/polished my own cars. My husband sits at the picnic table, drinks beer and tells me when I've missed a spot. He just shakes his head in disbelief. Can't understand why anyone in their right mind would DIY when there's a nice car wash half a mile from the house.

By the way, I really like the MF towels. Use them around the house as well as on the car. Costco has a huge bag of them cheap. I didn't buy from Costco, however, because I already have enough to last me a lifetime. If I bought any more, my husband would have me committed.

Of course, Basil docked in Port Hueneme a week ago, and my $#&*! dot is still on en route on the OL.... I'm getting quite annoyed at Irvine Mini - thinking about cancelling my order and grabbing a dark silver cabrio from the lot at Long Beach Mini.... I better had a duff or two to calm down.

homer - have you called anyone at irvine? Seems like your car should be at the dealer any day now! I don't think the dealer has anything to do with the moving of the dots... It should change pretty soon after they scan the car at the VDC...

Yea, Homer. Chin-up. I picked up my Mini today and my dot still says it's at the VDC. The whole progression from dock to delivery seem to move like a Keystone Cops movie. Don't let the whole run-around drag down your excitement for the Mini.

di Minimus Maximus comes home!

Here are the first photos of di Minimus Maximus!

Check out the wheels. I ordered the standard R85 S-Lites, but got the R97 wheels that were originally included in the CheckMate package. My MA says it is a big upgrade. I'm not sure if I like them or not. I had really worked myself up to be happy with the S-Lites because they were not my first choice but I didn't want to lay out the cash to get the R90 or R98 wheels. I guess what I need to tell myself is that I don't necessarily like them less than the S-Lites, they are just different and not what I expected. Please let me know what you think about the wheels - my MA offered to switch them out with the S-lites if I ended up not liking them, but I'm sure that offer has an expiration date on it.

Honestly, at first I thought, wow... then I kept looking and thought they looked kinda goofy. I'd go with the S-lites if you still have a choice.

I don't think they are super duper cool, but they are cool and I like them better than the s-lites

Wylie,
I like the wheels. They're cool. Great pics too. My Flo is really a dirty girl. Hopefully I can clean her up tomorrow afternoon and take pictures. I received the Coco Mats I ordered. They are really great. I was a little worried that they would be too busy, but I worried for nothing.

great looking Mini! Congrats! love the black top with the CR. I kinda like the wheels. They're different. I'm not a fan of the S-Lites, though, so I'm slightly biased. But get what you want!

oh, one other comment... that is the cleanest looking driveway I've ever seen!!!

I decided to prolong my waiting pains today... I want to get a clearbra and window tinting done before I pick up my MINI. So tack on another 3 days to whenever my MINI arrives at Irvine MINI.

Homer...have them throw in an I-pod adapter for you, they did it for us with our first two MINIs. Oh..word of advice..do not get the perma-plating!

Nice pics of C/R MINIs....I hope to share mine with you all soon.

Thanks everyone! I was getting a little cranky, more upset about the trade-in/sale of the existing car than the non-moving dot.... I wanted to schedule an appointment to take my current 2003 4runner to the dealer so they could tell me what it will be worth as trade in, and got nothing but car dealer run around. I didn't think I was asking for too much, but noooooooo, that's not possible..... Sorry, I started getting wound up again. It will be OK. I thought that gas prices dropping would help the value of my v8 suv, but the prices at carmax and toyota dealers have been 2k below blue book, and I used blue book to figure out how much of a loan I will need.

Great to see everyone's pictures! Keep 'em coming - I need the encouragement.....

Thanks again for your support.

Lexster - do you mind telling us what they are charging for the clear bra?
