Production Week 34 (Aug 21, 2006) Support Group

Just spoke with AskMini and they advised me that mine was scheduled for the 34th week.. They really weren't able to tell me much more than that.

Ordered Jul 29th.. Any others out there being told week 34?

Me, too...

And the wait begins... I ordered on 7/25, and I'm scheduled for week 34 as well.

There's a lot to be said for ordering a custom MINI from the factory, but the wait is driving me slowly crazy... I log into the owner's lounge on miniusa.com about every other day, just to get my "fix". :impatient

Woohoo! Just found out I'll be with you guys in Week 34. I ordered July 25, and have been obsessing ever since. I can't seem to peel myself away from NAM since the Owners' Lounge is stuck on "On Order".:impatient

Impaitently Waiting.......

It's good to know that everyone else is doing the same things I'm doing, constantly looking at the site, hoping for a change from "Ordered". :impatient

Is anyone having 2nd thoughts on their order, like maybe I should get this color versus the one chosen, or upgrade from the Leather to the English leather, or is this just another thing, occupying my mind?

I've never ordered a car before, but then again, I've never driven a Mini until recently and that was the beginning of a great drive and at that point, there was no turning back, I knew I had to have one!!!

I also have second thoughts on my options that i purchased for example I wish I had goten the John works Brakes instead of the center arm rest but i think now its a little too late for it...

Yes, I have a feeling that all this may be slightly impacting my ability to work 8 hours a day...need more NAM time!

Haha! This is the only thing I haven't been obsessing over. I've spent the past four years building MINIs on the configurator, so I pretty much knew what I wanted. The only thing I had trouble deciding on after my test drives was whether to get the 5-speed or the CVT since I have never owned or much driven a manual car before. I fretted over this for two days after test driving both and finally told my MA to put the order in with the 5-speed. Once I made that decision I told myself I wasn't going to think about it anymore, just focus on the day I get the car!!

The wait is hard enough in and of itself...but I can see how it would be easy to second-guess with all the possibilities of options out there for the MINI!

I spent about six months on the configurator before I placed my order, and I'm still going back and forth on a couple of small details.

I ultimately took the easy way out - when it came to factory options, I just ordered everything but the cold-weather package, nav system and JCW suite (I did get the JCW CAI, though...)

My remaining uncertainties are all dealer-installed accessories, so I can just sit down with my associate and obsess over everything right there in the showroom.

This just in....

I just got this e-mail from my dealer...

"Trust all is well with you. Just wanted to let you know that your Cooper S status is currently Nr. 112 which means production will begin soon. Are there any other factory options you want to add or delete? Just wanted to check with you again to see if you've changed your mind on anything."

YIPPEEEE!!!!

I'm in week 33, and since ours were delayed a bit, I'm guessing yours are too... The plant was shut down until today for the past two weeks apparently. It does appear that they factor this into the completion date, since ours are actually finishing a day early

I was told by ASK MINI that the plant officially re-opened today, and my status changed for the first time in two weeks (what I'm assuming were the two weeks the plant was shut down) - things should be moving along now for you guys too !

I haven't called ASK MINI yet since the plant reopened, I figure I will give them a few days for the prospect of maybe getting some further along news . The owner's lounge still says "on order" for me, but I have almost pretty much discounted the accuracy of that anyway...

Everyone's specs sound great! I was considering Royal Grey myself, it is a lovely color. And if I had gone for the convertible, it would definitely have been Hot Orange!

If anyone hears anything good on the progress, let us know!

Anyone from week 34 get an update yet?

Doodlez, this doesn't qualify as something good on progress, but I figured the info was worth sharing. My MCSC was originally scheduled for completion in week 33 on 8/18 - now bumped to 8/31, based on a call to ASK MINI today.

I've read that production dates a bit earlier in week 33 are still on track - so, hopefully this is something specific on my MINI - but it may impact others coming along in subsequent weeks.

We were supposed to be Week 31 but with the Plant shut down we were told by our MA that we were Week 33. A call to ASK MINI yesterday confirms 112 Status "On Order" with a scheduled production date in Week 34. We continue to wait....

2006 MCS
Royal Grey
Silver Roof and Mirrors and Silver Bonnet Stripe
Premium Package
Sports Package with Web Spokes
English Panther Leather, Anthrecite and Chrome Line

Well I have decided I don't believe anything anyone tells me, I won't believe I even have a car until it's in my driveway. I ordered early July, was told by the MA it would be delivered in 6 - 8 weeks.... then I find out that's not true... ASK MINI gave me week 34 and then.... nope, for some reason you are now bumped to.... hmmm.... well ma'am they put down week 37 but it looks like that will change and you are looking at a late September, maybe October production date.... Ok folks... my six to eight weeks turned into....sixteen weeks at least. I would have never ordered if I had known this because I need a car before then.

Grrrr... I will be without transportation in a week. Granted, I can borrow my son-in-law's restored '72 Cutlass.... but gas cost?? and parking issues in the city??? eeek! I won't be going many places in a muscle car (as cool as it looks)

Can you get your money back if you've put a down payment down on the car? My husband is saying we need a car now and might not be able to wait for this MINI to be built. *sigh* I do see his point. It just stinks.

So far as I know...

My MINI is still scheduled for week 34, but that may change, based on what I'm hearing from the rest of you folk.

Urk.

I'm running out of fingernails...

But, to help make the time pass by, here's what I'm waiting for...

Cooper S Automatic
Pepper white with black roof and bonnet stripes
Premium Package
Sport Package w/S-Lites and All-Season tires
Convenience Package
Rear fog lamp
Cockpit Chrono Pack
Center Arm Rest

Than I'm adding (dealer accessories)
Globe box organizer
Boot box
Sun shade
Sirius satellite radio
Security system
JCW CAI
Grocery bag holder

At some point I'll mod the exhaust and add anti-sway bars, but that's in next-year's budget...

Somewhat off-topic question, but speaking of sun shades - I'm thinking of accessories to add too once my MINI gets to the dealership. I have a sunroof - are there sunroof sun shades? From what I've read, on warm days the sunroof turns the car into an oven. Just trying to think ahead!

Ack! I'm sorry to hear this! At one level, it's a risk we all take in making a factory order, but I think your MA should have been much more forthcoming. It's worth talking to the dealer and seeing if they can either refund your deposit or use it against the price of a Mini that's in-stock. You could ask them to get creative and write a short-term lease on an in-stock Mini while waiting for your new one to arrive.

Has anyone else tried this?

My advisor was very up-front - he told me that it could take as long as 12 - 16 weeks from the time I put in my order until my new baby arrived in my driveway. This set up my expectations in a way that is reasonable - if only all the dealers would be that considerate...

[sigh]

There's instuctions on this site (I saw them yesterday in one of the how-to forums) on how to make your own folding shades for the sunroof.

As far as I know, no-one is manufacturing these (could be an opportunity for someone with some spare time and entrepreneurial spirit...).

I'll see if I can find the forum, and post a link.

Found it - here's the link: http://my.athenet.net/~mtr/mini/shade/

Wow, pottermom, I am sorry to hear this. I guess I'm lucky to have my current car still while I wait.

My MA and the manager both quoted me a 6-8 week wait from the time of order, saying the average is usually 7 weeks. They also said that my deposit would be fully refundable unless my spec'd car was an oddball that would be difficult to sell off the lot. You should definitely talk to them about your predicament and see what options you might have.

I have avoided calling ASK MINI so far this week (not easy to abstain, but trying anyway) for fear of getting similar news that the timeline has been pushed back.

I do hope that you get some positive news soon!
