I think I read somewhere that the NY port has a good website with some detailed info about ships that are coming in, etc. It may be on the "How to track your MINI thread" or perhaps somewhere else? The ole memory is failing me now that it's just about quittin' time at work.

I'm at work now so I can't look, but there were no wrinkles on the clear bra that I remember. There's one tiny place where it's peeling at the curve of the bumper, but that's because there was a tiny bit of rock/something under it and I managed to get it out. If this gets worse, I will simply get them to reinstall, as it has a lifetime warranty.

I would have most definitely remembered if there were wrinkles around the headlights, because I washed/waxed it/inspected it within an inch of its life. As I recall, everything looked fine.

sweet, then I am going to have my guy install it. Not the dealer mind you. And independent company.

So unless you frequently travel behind dump trucks or something, you may want to hold off until you can find a decent 3M installer for the clear bra, which is much safer IMHO.

Maybe I will keep looking for a clearbra installer. I really don't like the look of the other type of bra and if there is a possibility that it may damage my Mini too, I think I will pass. Thanks for the info.

for some reason it feels like we had to wait longer for our cars right....
i mean i see other production weeks and they get there cars in about a month... but cause of the factory shutdown it seems like this wait is taking forever... who agrees with me

I totally agree with you ukhan. I ordered mine on July 31st and then learned the factory was closed until the 13th (!!), so those 2 weeks were a waste. If I had known, I would have done more research and waited to order on the 14th.

anyway, based on your experience earlier in the day, i called and mine is supposedly "in transit" too. My Owner's Lounge was "Awaiting Transport" all day, but just changed to "En route"!

I've actually been considering changing my order (color and to an S), but perhaps now that it is on the way, I'll be okay. I even considered a reorder, but I think I would go insane waiting again, although it would probably be quicker this time around.

yeaa... ur right...
ok i found out that my car was on Integrity by Pluging in my VIN on WW website... it came up with booking #.... and showed the car was loaded on the ship....

U might be also on a ghost ship along with Doodles and Spring... there are several people that have not seen there car being loaded on the WW site...
it is in my understanding that They ship car also with different companys to not have any delays.,. the only bad thing is you cna't track themmm.....

I'm guessing that I am on the African Highway as well, based on the depature date. I checked out the Port of Charleston schedule and it looks like this ship is scheduled to dock at the Union Pier Terminal in Charleston on 9/14!

http://www.port-of-charleston.com/Vessel_schedule.asp

I checked sailwx.info and it looks like this ship does not send in weather reports, so looks like no tracking for us. But at least we now know that our MINI's aren't sitting there all sad at the port!

The whole thing about the factory shutdown is, I'm kicking myself because I should have ordered on 7/22 when I test drove but waited until 7/25. I probably would have my MINI right now if I hadn't waited - darnit!

I think I'm on the same ship - my MA told me to expect my MINI to arrive in Charlston on the 14th. So it appears that my mystery ship may have been revealed...

Much better than waiting desolate on the docks...

No no no! Don't kick yourself. I ordered in mid-July...on the 21st, I believe. And even at that time, although my MA didn't know about the factory shutdown, when he plugged the order into the computer the production week my MINI was slotted into was week 34. So ordering any earlier likely wouldn't have made a lick of difference. Sad, but true. I think the factory shut-down really threw everything off.

Westchester MINI. Tiny dealership in Elmsford, NY. I live in NYC, but didn't want to deal with large Manhattan dealership so went to a couple different dealers outside the city, including the one in Mahwah, NJ. I was really disappointed with the Jersey guys, but really pleased with the Westchester experience--the small dealership made a really, really big difference.

Now, however, I just got the pricelist for the options they'll install and am a bit less pleased (or at least, my wallet is certainly less happy). I'm balking at how much some of this stuff is...they're charging $200 for a $40 auxilliary input; $300 for the iPod adapter (which seems to have gotten mixed reviews). And $695 for the clear bra (aka ChipShield). Do these prices seem right to you guys?

Hey Lyrebard,

My charges were similar and I ordered at Crown MINI of Richmond. The clear bra was $699 (but with lifetime warranty and all that good stuff) and the aux. input was $250. I don't know if these charges are pretty par for the course, but they're what I paid.

Thanks, Katherine. That's good to know...especially considering that I've seen other people quote prices (alarm for $400, installed, when my dealer quotes me $695) far below what I'm seeing. *sigh* Because I live in such a big and pricey city, I always suspect that I'm getting ripped off. I'm a total cheapskate, so this whole buying-a-new-car thing is a little nervewracking!!

I'm a cheapskate too. I just graduated from college in May and got a job, a car and an apartment all within a few months. Needless to say, funds are tight. But I'd wanted a MINI since they came out and it was a graduation gift to myself, so I tried not to pinch too many pennies.

Count me in on the cheapskate club . I just moved (paid for by moi) and am still recovering from that and the state income tax here in NC - I got a promotion but earn about the same due to tax here that I didn't have in FL.

Still, I got everything I wanted on my MINI and even a few extras that I didn't know I wanted. I'm sure I would have loved the MCS, but I think the MC is the smart choice for me since it is a little more economical on fuel, which will be a big savings over my old car even using premium gas. Of course there's just one little problem - the car payment that I didn't have before . Oh well, it will be soooo worth it!!!

OMG. I just scheduled the first appointment for someone to come and look at my current, much-beloved-yet-frequently-vandalized car. Up until now, aside from the initial deposit, it was all theoretical. Now, suddenly, this is all starting to feel a lot more real!

I understand the feeling as I went through it just over a week ago now. The first person that looked at the car wanted it, so did the second person. First person gave me a deposit, then the second person offered me more $$, which put her offer over Blue Book value (unfortunately, this was after I got the aforementioned deposit, oh well). It was a very sentimental experience for me since I also loved the old girl and she was good to me for 9 years. But I got my asking price and I'm just waiting on the MINI now!! (Being car-less has definitely made the wait MUCH harder...)

It's great that you got your asking price! I've got a bit of a cult-classic (older Sentra SE-R...so zippy, those things!), and would really like to sell it to someone who can appreciate that.

As for being car-less, however, for the most part it shouldn't be TOO too bad, since I live in Queens and take the subway to work in Manhattan. But I did want to drive up to my dealership in order to take a look at a clear bra before making a decision on that...might be hard to get up there without wheels!
