Rotor fitment issues?

Anyone have any brake rotor fitment issues? A friend of mine had a set of aftermarket brake rotors designed for the MINI and I couldn't get them to sit flush onto the axel. Either the inner diameter of the center hole is slightly too small or the machining job they did on face that comes in contact with with the axel was not good enough.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? If so, what was done to resolve it?

I've had Zimmerman cross drilled rotors installed on my MCS without any problems and I know another MINI owner that had Powerslot rotors installed with no problems.

You might try to contact Randy Webb at Webbmotorsports.com or Todd at TCE brakes (in phoenix) and ask your question.

Something sounds wrong like they sent you the wrong parts. Also note most slotted rotors are designed for right vs left as separate parts. Did you reverse them??

So then aftermarket rotors should go on without a hitch, then right? Without any end-user "milling" to get fitment correct.

The rotors belong to a friend and we tried both rotors on the same axel to see if it did make a difference. Yes, they are slotted. Does it make a diff as to which direction the slots face?

Here is a picture of an installed powerslot rotor with the front of the MINI facing left. More pics at Webbmotorsports.com in the brake section-

Maybe I'm interpreting this drawing wrong, but if you try to mount them with the "extra ridge" side facing the axle, you're bound to have problems.

My drawing is very poor. I am mounting them the correct direction. The cupped part of the rotor goes towards the axel. In my picture the cupped part of the rotor is facing up and this is only a cross-section "zoomed" in on the area from the centerline (CL on right side of picture) to just beyond the cupped part of the rotor (left side of picture). None of the "face" of the rotor is shown in the diagram. So you're only seeing about 1/4 of the cross-section of the rotor. Again, sorry for the poor quality of drawing. I've attached another quickie drawing of it, hopefully I've made it better this time.

It's either hitting on the champhered bit of the inner hole or it's riding a little bit on the ridge (extra ridge in picture). It's like they didn't machine all the way across.

This method will sure make fitting the wheel easier....lol!

The chamfer should either match the radius of the hub or the inner face machined past that which is needed for the hat to sit flush. Both are this way?? Sounds like some parts bin swapping.

MiniHune, Do the brakes make any noise? Are you using greenstuff pads too?

I have front and rear Mintex M1144 track brake pads so they squeak a little but nothing major. The M1144 are like the Ferodo DS2500 and good for autocross, track, and street.

When I had Mintex redbox I had minimal squeaking. Those were not good for track but OK for autocross and street use. A little more brake dust than EBC green but much much better than stock pads.

from the look, those are typical machine cuts. The engineer who designed that rotor, didn't do a good job of applying tolerances, or didn't do a good stack-up; either way, it shows poor engineering practice. the lip from facing the inner surface(mounts to hub) should always end up outside the hub chamfer.
