R56 rotors

Are there aftermarket brake rotors available yet for the r56 mcs? It's getting close to the time to replace the front pads, and I know the rotors will need replacing too, but I haven't been able to find an aftermarket source for them.

This could not matter if I knew the dealer would replace the rotors at the same time as the pads, especially if they are ~.030 above the discard spec. Anyone have input on this too?

Thank you.

Well here's what I have found.
I am also in need of new rotors and pads, and I don't want to go with OEM rotors. They are too soft for my liking and have worn out in 35700 miles.

For direct replacement there are only 3 rotors that I have found to date.
1st - JCW $260pair from MiniMania
2nd - Stoptech $260pair from MiniMania
3rd - DBA $280pair from knsbrakes

Im going to go with the DBA 4000 rotors, I like the company and the 4000's have been around for a long time with great reviews on them. The DBA rotors took me a few days to find anybody in North America that has the ones to fit the new Mini's. DBA just released the rotors in Oct or Nov 08.

If there are more options out there that I may have missed, please post!

You can get a full big-brake-kit (BBK) from www.detroittuned.com -- I have a buddy who installed the brake kit on his R56, and the stopping power is incredible!

I'd like to know also. The TCE Caliper Kits are intended for the larger R56 parts and for the JCW versions. Sales might boost if I could direct someone to a goo supplier for for the latter.

And yes; you can do a number of BBKs for a modest, sub $1000 price tag.

Thank you scott! I prolly spent 2 days trying to find something and couldn't come up with a result.

I take it I'd be best off calling kns to order them? I didn't see mini listed as an option.

I think there are some tsw stock replacements coming out soon too.

yeah, its not a Mini site at all, but I went through there 100 something pages and found the part # that i got off of DBA's site. The 4000 series sloted is DBA42524slr thats the pair. I checked every link on DBA and that was teh only site that had that product number.
I would also like to see the TSW's when they come out, I like their stuff.
I have a month left until I'm done, so my times running out.

You know if you go with the JCW rotors you can get 'em about $50 cheaper at Outmotoring.com. I think their $209. But if you really want a "performance" upgrade and not just cosmetics, you should go with a big brake upgrade (i.e., JCW, Detroit Tuned, Wilwood - which I would personally recommend, etc.). But if you go with the JCW rotors, definitely get them from Aaron at Outmotoring.com.

Update.

Powerslot make rotors for R56's now! I just got mine today. They are not on Powerslots site, but my buddy works in the parts department for Ford, and did some calling around and got me some.

The part # 126.34101SR and SL

The only link I found for these are from FrozenRotors.

http://www.frozenrotors.com/store/126.34101CSL

I will be installing mine sometime this week with Hawk HPS pads.

Unless I misunderstand, these are the stock R56 rotors or the former R53 JCW rotor? This is the first they've been on the market to date?? I'd have thought they'd be more common by now. They'll only work on the R56 car of course as they'll be too large for the R53 caliper to fit.

Still looking for the bigger ones though. Any word on 312mm stuff?

Todd,

I've been hunting everywhere online and only came up with 4 "real" options.
Stoptechs, DBA, JCW, and now the Powerslot. I too have been surprises that there are not a lot of options. Oh well.

Well not exactly....parent Chinese company Centric owns both Powerslot and Stoptech.

DBA would likely be independent, and the JCW parts are most likely cast by Brembo. Just a guess.

Our rotor supplier will have the R56 rears ready soon, and the S fronts will be ready this July... We already have an order for both of them when they're through production. We sent them a front a rear a few months ago and they finally got through their meticulous R&D process.

The vendors here seem to have a good selection and competitive prices. Since purchasing the (R53) MINI, I picked up a set of R56 front brakes almost new and track pads almost new so I've not needed brake stuff yet, besides the lines.

However, I do know that with my previous track cars, I've used raceshopper.com with good results as has a buddy that races in NASA PT. They ship quickly and inexpensively, have competitive pricing and a good selection, and they don't tell you they have something when they don't, or neglect to tell you they don't.

I'm not trying to divert business from our vendors. They're good folks. Just another option...
