While some brake maintenance can be limited to new pads, the best solution is to replace both the pads and rotors. MINI recommends that you replace the rotors whenever you replace pads. You can 'turn' the rotors and re-use your old rotors to save some money, but be aware that turning rotors will reduce heat dissipation capacity (between the wear on the rotor and turning, you lose significant amounts of metal) and increase chance of 'warping' due to the reduced thickness.
For best performance and longevity, replace the rotors and pads at the same time!
